From what I can find on the site, the show is going to feature Currie's Fire
Ant, which is a TJ. The last build-up on the show (finally finished a
couple of weeks ago) was the Wicked Willys and now he's started on "Project
Crazy Horse", a Bronco. Cool stuff! The Wicked Willys was definitely nice,
I wouldn't mind it parked in my spot. :)

Hi Gang,
I received my updated Currie TJ steering setup today (thanks again to 4
wheeler's supply for taking care of this issue when they really didn't have
to) and while the tie rod looks the same on both the old style Currie
steering setup and the latest version; the drag link on the newer version is
incredible. In some places, the new drag link is nearly twice the diameter
as the old one. All in all, I'm happy Currie finally finished the redesign
and I'm extremely happy that four wheeler's supply took care of their
customer... thanks again to Barry and Bryan for dealing with Currie so I
didn't have to (too much anyway) <grin>.
The install took about 20 minutes... and another 20 minutes to adjust toe-in
and centering the steering wheel.

James,
That is certainly a good question. At a minimum, a steering brace is in
order (which I do not have on mine yet). A friend of mine from Florida
was running JV back in April. He managed to rip the entire steering box
off the frame (twice) before calling it quits. He ended up getting one
of the rock ram setups on his TJ. He was pushing big old 38.5" Swampers
around in those rocks.

Anyway, I couldn't bring myself to scrap the doors as they are the only

doors is in good shape too. If any of you FSJ'rs want them, please come and
get them. They are free, I could use a cold drink though. Also, I saved the

Come and get it same price as the doors.

I'm getting new tires and have been looking into this
for a few weeks - been everywhere from Fletcher's to
Discount to Firestone and even Costco. I really want
the BFGs. They all have told me the same thing about
BFGs - they're soft, expensive and I'll be very
unhappy with the tire life. They've all tried to talk
me out of buying BFGs and into Bridgestone Dueler ATs,
which at Fletcher's are about $30 cheaper per tire
than BFGs. The first few times I heard this, my
thought was that they're getting kickbacks for selling Bridgestones.
Who knows, maybe they are. I still haven't made up my mind. It's
perplexing - tire dealers say stay away from BFGs, but a lot of people
run them and there's got to be a reason for that.
I currently run 31" Dunlop Rover RVs (already on there
when I bought my XJ) and they are cupping. I've
recently had an alignment and do rotate the tires
every 3k miles. I've been told once any tire starts
wearing in a particular fashion there's very little
you can do to fully correct it. That is partly
because most 4x4ers rotate front to back, which seems
to be the rule regardless of who you talk to.
Fletcher's told me today the only way to partially
correct the cupping is to rotate side-to-side every so
often. They said the heat is compounding the wear
pattern and causing the tires to break down even
faster. I do have a fair amount of tread left on my
tires, but they are approx. 5 years old and there's no
way to tell exactly how many miles are on them. I
drive a lot of miles for work, nearly 3000 miles in
the past 5 or 6 weeks, and that's going to compound my
wear problem. Fletchers' went on to say that because
the BFGs are softer they would break down even
quicker.
Well anyway, to answer your question more directly,
I've been told you can get away with rotating them
every 6k, but if there's wear problems, they should be
rotated every 3k. As I said, I do rotate mine every
3k. When I get new tires, they will be rotated and
the balanced checked every 3k.
I'm no tire expert and feel like a bobble-head doll
when I'm talking to those guys! If I accept what
they're telling me at face value, it makes perfectly
good sense to me, so I just nod my head in agreement.
Please let me know if you find out what I'm peddling
here is a bunch of hoo-ha. I'd be interested to know
whether I'm getting good or bad advice.
Bill

I'm fairly new to this group, so please tell me why I
should check with Rick Beer. Does he run a tire shop
or an off-road store or have other connections?
Good tires aren't cheap, so before I make the
purchase, I want to make sure all bases are covered.
I'm anal about stuff like that. At the rate I'm going
on this tire thing, I'll run the tread off my tires
before making a decision! :)
Thanks for the advice, but please provide more detail.

Subject: RE: tire rotation
I'm fairly new to this group, so please tell me why I
should check with Rick Beer. Does he run a tire shop
or an off-road store or have other connections?
Good tires aren't cheap, so before I make the
purchase, I want to make sure all bases are covered.
I'm anal about stuff like that. At the rate I'm going
on this tire thing, I'll run the tread off my tires
before making a decision! :)
Thanks for the advice, but please provide more detail.
Bill
