Jay, there is a radiator shop in mesa called mike dana radiator. He has
built several radiators for me and others I know. They are all 3 core
radiators. He adds extra fins and increases flow. The last one cooled
so well that I had to block off part of the radiator from the air. If
you ever get the chance, go see him. Like many others we have here in
az some people are just graced with certain abilities to understand
their trade.
I forgot to mention he beat or matched every radiator price in town even
with his mods.

I had to share this with the group. I've been fighting a cooling
problem in my Jeep in the summers ever since I did the Chevy350 swap in
to it. For those that don't know, I have a CJ7 with Chevy 350, turbo350
combo. I finally have it to where I no longer worry about cooling
issues any more, even in 110F heat and in traffic. Here is what I did
and the results:
1) Stock CJ7 7 blade fan with thermal fan clutch
2) 4 core radiator from Mepco (not their 3 core high efficiency one).
3) Custom made fan shroud with 1" plenum and 1/2 covering the depth of
the fan fins.
4) 160F high flow thermostat
5) Stock water pump
6) 70% water, 30% coolant
7) 4.56 gears
8) 38" tires
I find, when the outside air temp is 105F or so, it runs 175 down the
freeway turning 2,800 rpm. When slowing to idle and in stop and go
traffic, it runs no more than 180F. So if anyone is considering this
swap, this is what I have done to solve my cooling problems. And it
works!
Just FYI to those that may be having issues with this.

Most likely they are wired wrong. Do you have both parking and turn
signals working. Joe West's were like this until I pointed out to him
that his were wired wrong. He had assumed that red was power and black
is ground. Not true on the CJ lights. One wire is parking and the other
is turn signal. They ground through the housing. As soon as we wired
them properly, he again had parking lights and the turn signals blinked
at the proper rate.
Hope that helps.

IMO K&N filters are a waste unless you *pre-filter* the intake. The
pores on the K&N are large and your oil will get dirty faster. If you
*pre-filter* the K&N you are back to having the same intake properties
as a stock filter. Think of how dusty the trails are we run. I blow the
dust/dirt off my Fram filter after every run. And that works for me. I
think the minimal gain is negligible and not worth it.
UNLESS you drive a street Jeep and are not on dusty trails that is.

I installed one a few months ago. I could not document any millage
increase, but did not keep extensive/precise records. It did seem to
have more power and rev faster. I can also clean my filter as needed,
usualy after an allday run in the dirt, it is realy dusty out there
now. The inside of the air box looks clean so far so I do not think
much dirt is getting past the filter. I do have some more ideas, but
they will have to wait for a more money time. By the way , I have a

Saw your awesome Red XJ in Tolleson - 95th Ave and Van Buren, you were parked
between Subway, Job Center, IDRA, and Southwest Ambulance. Looked around but
I didn't see anyone that looked like they belonged to the Jeep. I was in my
Red XJ, much less modified than yours. Very nice rig you got yourself!!!
