Though It might be fun to make a stubby bumper out of my stock JK bumper, on top of that it was free. It wasn't to hard to do eather. I might try to make it look alittle better but It'll just get torn off anyways.:D

The pic with the short bumper makes your tires look small. They didn't look that small in person yesterday when we cut it up. Oh well, go get some bigger tires.:D

Edit: and discos!

Or you can build a 42" bumper like I do, perfect length and all!!

Hey remember we need to be trail and road friendly, no need to move boulders or push over semies during rush hour:D

Has the Army contacted you yet for your bulletproof bumpers? What about the Navy, heard they need new anchors theirs are rusting:D

Looks Great!! Thats one of the good things with the JK's that you can do for free and it helps alot and looks real good...:D BTW, RK is going to be releasing a quick disconnect for your JK with 0-3" of lift in the next few weeks. I will let ya know when they are in stock. It looks like it needs an HID Headlight upgrade though......:D

Can the plastic cover come off the bumper so it is all metal?

Now just take off and scrap the fenders/flares and it'll look killer.

42" is too wide, unless you like the bumper stopping the Jeep from climbing. ;)

I too am wondering if you can take the plastic off? What's underneath look like? The reason is, by the pics it almost looks like the front of your rig is all bumper... kinda like those big overemphesized bumpers on bumper cars. :)

The plastic does separate from the metal bumper that is underneath. The metal bumper is maybe 8 inches short on each side than the plastic bumper. What is underneath it is not attractive. We hacked about a foot of the metal bumper underneath off on each side also. Without the ends, it does look a little over emphasized in the pictures, but much better in person. If you compare it cut down to a non-modified bumper, there is a huge difference in clearance before the tire.

I am considering taking the scrape plastic and rewelding a small portion on the finished end back on. Just to give it a finished look.

Also, its not raining unfortunatly I just hosed off the bumper for the pics.

Don't listen to that guy, he's a moron. :p

FWIW, my bumper is about 41". I think I could easily knock off 2.5 to 3" on each side (frame is 35-36") and gain some clearance. Would it be perfect then ??? Probably not, perfect is pretty hard to identify in this sport, some things work better than others on one trail, but not others. For the easier trails that I like to run, 42" is a bit on the wide side. Just my .02.

Sorry for the Hijack, I dig they JK bumper mod that started this, just for the heck of it, how wide is the bumper in the first post now ?

Right now the bumper is 43.5" at its widest point. I guess thats still alittle long from what everyone is saying though. Theres nothing more i can take off the bummper and there is alot of space between the tire and bumper.

What's a little long on a TJ may not be on a JK.

Does those hooks on the front come off the frame?? Im lookin to fab a front JK bumper since I did the ZJ bumper last week. Im sure I can build one, I seen other pictures where there is 4 bolts on each side holding the bumper to the frame. What length would be a good length to make it?

Yea the hooks come off. There is 4 bolts holding each one in place. The hooks are seperate from the metal part of the bumper as well. I'm not really sure what a good length is for a bumper though. Right now mine is 43.5" and thats as small as i could get for the most part. And there is plenty of space it seems like but you might want to ask someone who knows alittle more than me:rolleyes:.
