I am having an issue with my Cobra 75WXST CB. It turns on, the display functions, it scans (even stopping in spots where it apparently finds communication) but I can not hear any audio.

I am curious if leaving it in the vehicle resulted in it getting destroyed by the AZ heat. It is never left in direct sunlight though (the mic of the CB typically sets out of sight under the drivers seat when not in use) so it would just be the interior heat that would have killed it. That seems kind of lame as my race scanner, Sirius unit, and factory stereo all function fine. Has anyone else had problems with this unit?

turn the volume up?

do you hear any static? maybe your squelch is turned up to high!

Ha ha... yes the volume is turned up. :P

I played with the squelch, turning through its range and nothing. Typically when you turn on the unit you hear a little beep sound... now it doesn't even beep.

Try and plug in external speaker into box. If you get sound your speaker is bad. Make sure your antenna is hooked up. It should beep when you change channels also.

Check to see if your squelch is to high or maybe some other switches on your radio got bumped.....Thom

Sometimes a cable becomes slightly loose, push all cables in, and make sure antenna cable is tight to. I have a Cobra CB, have had it for 16 years, works great, when I have cables push in tight ;)

The 75WXST is an all in one (mic, buttons, volume and squelch controls are all one). It has a threaded PL connectors for both the handset and the antenna (both are tight).

It isn't the squelch as I turned it all the way down and the volume all the way up... I should be hearing static but I don't hear a peep.

Unfortunately I think the warranty on it is just 90 days. :-(

You can try to hook it up to my base if you want to find out if it is the base od hand held unit. Does it beep when you change channels? Does it work if you hook up exernal speaker?

I haven't tried hooking up the external speaker yet. It doesn't beep when turning on and changing channels.

Mine died too, as well as a few others on various other forums.

Toss it and get the $49 Uniden.

Edit - Not cobra, uniden.

Shoulda got Uniden. The cobra's have been going crap for a while now. IMO it sounds like the unit is shot but it could be a busted speaker wire or some kind of fuse inside of the unit - I'm not a CB guy so I really dont know how they work. Bring it to the guys at Apollo, they'll take a look at it for free...

My 75 works fine and it has been in the AZ heat for 2 years..... The ext speaker is your best bet now,

Ive got one and its been great. If warranty is over get the external speaker. Apollo is where i purchased mine. They can fix and tune your stuff.

First try to trasmit to someone and see if it goes through. You will need someone with a CB to do this and verify for you. If that works, the unit is only half dead. Try an external speaker. Again if it works, the 75 is only half dead, with the speaker being out. I'm not sure what it would take to fix the speaker since its an all-in-one unit. It would be fun to try. :) I agree with others, if you replace it get a Uniden.

If you can't transmit and the external speaker does nothing, you likely have bigger problems and need a new unit.

I wouldn't recommend trying to have a place try to fix it as a Uniden is only $50. If you have decicded it to be a loss you could open it up and try to toubleshoot, but the FCC isn't a huge fan of folks doing that.

just hooked up an external speeker (brnzy made me do it)... it is so much better now. Although mine wasn't quite as cool as his; all jacked into his vehichle stereo... damn i sounded good on that thing :)

Any CB shot and most truck stops will have small external speakers you can try; if the cobra is like my all in one midland you don't kneed to hook of the power lines on the speaker to test it; the output jack will drive it just fine.
