So after replacing my mud-filled, rust basket bearings up front, I still had some squaking. I think it is the rear bearings. I know the new ones need to be pressed on at a shop. How much $$$ does that cost and how do you remove the shafts from the housing?

Easy... remove tire...
disconnect brake lines at t block or at frame.
remove 4 bolts on each axle ( need the backing plate ) 1/2 or 9/16" I dont remember.
then slide them out... that easy

Ohhh... just be sure to keep the shims in order for each side...
they will need to be reinstalled exactly how they were coming off.

What rear axle do you have, D44, AMC 20, and if you do have an AMC 20 are they the stock axles or one piece aftermarket???

I Did all that and it was a little stuck(go figure), I thought maybe I had to take the shaft pieces apart. It is just like my Dana44 then, I am the one who originally installed them and have removed them a few times so if it is the same it should be easy... Just a lot more stubborn. Will I need a slide hammer?

And it must have stock axles, most one piece swaps let you ditch the shims....

Depends on the crud factor and if the axle splines have twisted in the spider gears ....

I was thinking of jsut throwing some one-piece shafts in with the bearings already on them, like when I put my Dana44 in the TJ

I Doubt it, the tired old 258 doesnt have the oomph. I bet it is just really really dirty.

Those stock axles are pretty soft.... And even a tired 258 is applying 400 ft/lbs of torque in low range depending on throttle position....

I have stock 2 piece shafts in mine and I have 33inch tires, running at 8 psi... I have yet to hurt the axles.
But I do periodically tighten the axle nut to make sure it is tight.
I kinda hope it breaks so I can explain to the wife why I need to spend 300 $$$
but I have yet to hurt them and I beat the crap out of them.
