Bridge project on State Route 87 to restrict travel lanes

The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) will resume roadway
improvements on State Route 87 at the Bush Highway on Monday September 10.
The project consists of constructing a traffic interchange linking SR 87 and
the Bush Highway, also known as the Saguaro Lake Turnoff. The project will
also widen approximately eight miles of shoulders providing additional
safety for motorists.

Monday's work will involve placement of concrete barriers to establish the
work zone. The roadway will be reduced to one lane in each direction until
September 21 for barrier placement and truck hauls. The restrictions for
northbound traffic will continue until summer 2008. The speed limit will be
reduced for the duration of the project.

The work will resume activities that recently inconvenienced many motorists
traveling the SR 87 during the Labor Day Weekend. ADOT regrets the
inconvenience that the public experienced and has revised plans to establish
the work zone in an effort to reduce the impacts to travelers.

ADOT advises drivers to proceed with caution, obey all posted speed limit
signs, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.

Road conditions and up-to-date restrictions can be found by dialing 511 or
going online to www.az511.com.

A bit off topic but related. It appears as though they are widening US 60 between FJ and Superior, does anyone know whats planned for the stretch after superior? I love that drive through the canyon and would hate to see it messed up.
