I have an 06 Commander that we are selling BUT, I say that because the GC and the Commander are on the same platform so I think I can answer some of the questions.

Overall it is an incredible vehicle. Drives and rides beautiful and we have had it off road a little to tow the quads and Jeep. It has the Hemi and it does good towing locally but we put the LJ on a trailer and towed it to death valley with the Commander and we had problems in the hills. It is rated to tow 7200 and we were just too close to that for hill towing, on the flats it did ok tho. It definately needs a sway hitch for heavy loads.

I can't really say there is anything we do not like about it other than it is not suited for towing the Jeep cross country.

It did ok towing the quads to Munds Park tho.

It also has the low range T-Case with neutral so it can be flat towed behind a motorhome or semi.

As I said, it is the same platform as the GC so i would assume you will enjoy the GC. We have an older friend that owns an 05 GC with the Hemi and he loves it also tho he has never been off road. He has driven his around the country 3 times now and still has no complaints.

If you have specific questions, i can try and answer them. sorry about the rambling :D

Dave,
We own a 'White' 05 4.7 GC with the 2speed xfer case and tow package. We've racked up 49K of pretty trouble free miles.
Our two maintenance issues:
1) I had to replace the battery in August and its a wierd group/size. It made it difficult to find and pretty pricey to buy. Look up one and you'll see what I mean (wierd size and the terminals are swapped from most regular groups)
2) We had an exhaust manifold leak. It was a pita to fix, but certainly cheap enough. It turned out to be a cracked bolt located on the driver's side near the firewall. It was a cheap part, but navigating to that area and tracing it was a little time consuming. The bolt was cheap-cheap.... No leaks since

We've really run this rig as our family go-getter. I've hauled my hunting trailer and Harley hauler behind it without issues and with decent gas mileage. I prefer to not use the tow/haul mode as it is extremely jerky when city driving in that mode and the tranny doesn't keep slipping in and out of O/D. It sees a lot of town miles and highway miles and has been great for Jamie. She and the kids love it. She went from a Toyota Highlander (with no rear AC vents...) to this vehicle and has never looked back. The kids actually stay sweat free in back and it hauls our family vacation crap with ease. I've taken off the front air dam for mild wheeling (Wet Beaver Creek, Sedona trails, and Fire service roads) and the rig has done fine. The air dam is super easy to remove and replace. Its due for some new tires this Fall, but he stockers have lasted well, doing a five tire rotation.

I've both driven and ridden in an 06 SRT GC. I work with an ex-owner of this same 06 SRT GC. It sounded nice and was plenty peppy, but not a keeper for him. It also wasn't a justifiable purchse for us. The kids and that interior..... He sold the SRT and now drives a BMW M6, as he's got the go fast gene.

For the money, our low end version of the V-8 GC is a no brainer choice and I would recommend it to anyone. Heck we walked out of the dealer for several thousand less than my 03 Rubi cost me. Out of our 3 current Jeeps, the GC is great and lasting better than our old 96 318 GC.
Let me know if I can help you with any other questions. Feel free to PM.
Be well

Dave, I know Geno just had a engine seize up in a Grand Cherokee with a v-8last week. I guess that their is a problem with some oil returns that get sludge build up and restrict oil flow or something. He posted up on the board about the problem. Good luck

Huck,

Thanks for the input!!

1Eagle ,
I read that Geno had issues with thier GC..

I decided to pass on this one.. It was nice but I need more towing capacity.. 6500 isn't going to cut it.. I also couldn't get over the fact that the front suspension is indipendent, especially being a Jeep..

Thanks everyone for thier input..
Dave
