Thanks to all who helped me get our Jeep ready for the cool weather.

I need a little more advice, and off we go. The 2.5, five speed TJ has developed a whine. Comes on low at startup, in or out of gear. increases as I buildup speed to about fifty, then the drone of the engine drowns it out. We went wheelin for about three hours using all the gears HI and Lo, no problem but continues to whine. If we have to, we will take it in and have it diagnosed but that is a two hour back and forth trip, plus the dealers time. I can continue to run it until something shows up I can pin point. Anybody with the same type situation now or in the past? :(

Check power steering fluid(does it increas/decrease when you turn?) Also water pump could be going out

Could be one of the pullys, PS pump, fan belt, water pump, buzz in the radio from ignition interference, any number of things.

Where is the jeep now?

Might be your idler pulley bearings!!! Jamie had this issue about 3 months ago... it eventually locked up and threw the belt, and Cole at 4 wheelers went and picked up her jeep and got er all fixed up!!!

Take the belt off the vehicle and start it up and see if the noise is still there!!!

if it isnt then obviously it is something that runs off the belt... then shut the engine off... and spin each of the components by hand and listen!

Im sure it is one of the pulleys!!!

Does the whine change when you push in the clutch? I had a T.O. bearing go bad that whined for a while until it gave-up-the-ghost.

Thanks again to all who responded.

Dave, we are away out in Roosevelt, but good of you to offer.
I will pull the belt this AM and do as suggested. The whine is consistant, and only increases with speed. The power steering seems to be fine, no unusual noise on full turn in either direction. I will post up after removing the belt and turning everything by hand. :)

Okay, it turns out to be the power steering pump. I have all new hoses but any estimates what it'll cost to get a new pump from the dealer?
