Just getting excited about the comong snow season. One of my favorite things is to fill the Jeep with camping gear and head into the snow for some adventure. Snow wheeling is my #2 favorite next to rocks. Please share some of your own snow wheeling pics.

Enjoy

Thanks, I figured it was up there but just wanted to make sure. I have a month off from school for Christmas break, so hopefully it snows up there so I can go play.

The Cinders is a great palce for snow wheeling...I would love to set up a trip...usually Later winter is better for consistent snow pack. Lots of hills and whatnot at the Cinders which makes the snow fun.

Well, if you get a trip set up or even just head out and don't mind me tagging along, let me know.

Thats what happened to the Toyota...we were alone without tools because my Jeep was in the shop. We dug it out with a funnel and a shoe. Dont go snow wheeling there alone unless you want to spend the night.

I will definitely let everyone know. I usually go out every weekend and camp in the cinders during snow season:D I would love to get a few Jeeps together and go have some fun. I know every inch of the Cinders park and its all a lot of fun in the snow, a little boring otherwise.

BTW, great pics guys!!

That sounds fun. I haven't been camping in the snow in a long time. Can I tag along sometime too?

Well damn, I didnt know there was so much interest. Now we gotta organize a run through the cinders in the snow. The whole park is challenging in the snow. Camping in the snow for me is just a tent and fire. Pretty basic but we always cook real good food and stay warm.

A nice little departure from all the rocks down there. I will be scouting the snow conditions all winter and when they are suitable I will start getting things together. Harder to organize since we are natures mercy. Could be as soon as November or as late as March depending on the weather this year.

I would definately be in on this run as well. I haven't had a chance to test the Rubi out in deep snow conditions yet. For those who have experience driving a jeep in the snow what advice do you have for a newbie??

How deep is too deep? Do lockers help in the snow? etc..........

Nice... I just started getting some Christmas catalogs in the mail this week and it got me yearning for snow. I hope Flagstaff gets a ton this year so I can spend some weekends up there.

Last year I was up there when they got a decent (one of the few last year) little snowstorm... got to see how beautifully my Commander handled the snow on unplowed roads. The QDII and Wrangler SilentArmor tire setup worked like a dream.

I wouldn't mind heading up in the Cherokee and playing out in the snow some.

Well, I can try to answer those questions as I have had a few years of snow experience.

Advise:

-Take it slow(on road especially)
-Stopping distance can quintuple
-Wheelspin is usually your enemy(opposite of mud)
-Often deep patches exsit on the sides of roadways and in fields like the Toyota is stuck in. You can never be sure when you may get stuck in a drift.
-Bring a shovel and extra food and water when wheeling in snow.
-Blankets

Yes lockers help in the snow, but the general consensus is that they do not help on plowed streets. Personally I like it better to have a rear locker in any snowy conditions. Lockers are absolutely amazing in the deep powdery stuff!

How deep is too deep?

Well that really depends. I have traveled on snow covered roads with 2+ feet on them with no lockers or lift. It was scary but I made it and was the first one through. The snow was so deep it kept covering the entire front of the Jeep because it was deeper than the bumper height so it all flew up as I drove. It was a hell of a ride. I was, quite frankly shocked with traction my Jeep has with just a set os 31" BFG MT's. Granted this was during a blizzard, generally snow is the easiest when before it forms a "crust". Really all that I can tell you is that you will have to experiment a little.

Hopefully we get a few 2+feet storms, maybe a few in a row like three years ago and we can all get our fill of the snow wheelin.

You guys are at least three months early, and why would you want to play in frozen water? It has to be less than 32 degrees for that nasty stuff to even form, why even leave home?
J/K, but I prefer to strap long boards on my feet and slide off mountains..... :D

Cool. Ben will have to drive - never driven in the snow.....I was really excited in February, because there was snow up at Camp Navajo....I took the shovel away from the poor private that was sent out to shovel it and gladly shoveled the whole parking lot - never done it before and had a blast! :D

No, don't know him. He was stuck there and I spent some time trying to pull him out to no avail. He wasn't very stuck but it was obviously slick that day. He was kind of a tall guy with a dog. That's all I remember. And come to think of it, it does look just like yours but without the Misfits sticker on the back or whatever that is.

Yeah, I'm like 99% positive that is mine. Yes, it is a misfit sticker on the back. Anyways, getting back on the topic...I can't wait for some good ol' fashion winter wheelin'!:D
