Linda,

I saw one on the way to work tonight it is totally stock but in pretty good
shape, the person wants 1,850 for it but I am sure you could walk away ahead
on this one..
I will stop by and chek it out in the morning. will give you an update if
you are interested, Also I know where there is a J10 pickup in rough shape
but lots of potential..

Subject: white tanks confusion

OK guys, I am going to go to the Ranger station Wed and talk to them personally. The first time the wife and I went out to the White tanks, we did some light wheeling, and scouted out places to go driving. Well out a bit on a trail we passed a County cop. he just waved and we passed on by. With 2 houses and a water tank less then 2 miles from the start of the class 4 trail, and the cop and all.. I think I need to check out the topo maps myself.

Nick (nnote) did you come into the white tanks from the north side?? Olive is the street you get into the park from, and the only way to get to the ranger station from where we wheel at is take the sun valley parkway, or hop on I-10 and head 8 miles back to town and then north lots of miles... we are well south of the White Tank Moutain regional park from the map I have.. page 57 of the phone book, but will go out and talk to the rangers and find out for sure.

I'm getting too lazy to do the short novel trail reports, so I posted a

Here's the link:

if you have trouble clicking on the link, go to http://www.photopoint.com

I'll update the captions on the photo's tomorrow.

This is a little in the future, and kind of far away but, I thought I would post it and extend an invation to anyone who might be interested.
I am from New Mexico, Los Alamos to be exact, (that is the place where you shop for nuclear secrets)anyway I am headed up to northern NM the end of july for some fishing and fourwheeling. I am going to a place named
Canjilon Lakes. It is about 2 hours north of Santa Fe. They are more like ponds or mud puddles than lakes But, it is beautiful there high alpine meadows aspen trees and plenty of roads to explore around class 3 to 4. The roads are not rocky like around Phoenix. If it is dry you can probably pretty much go anywhere but if it is wet we will have some fun in the mud. The thing I like most about this area is there are very few people around. If you like to get away from the crowds this is a very good spot. Everyone seems to prefer Taos and Red River. This a very undiscovered part of New Mexico.
If anybody is interested in more info let me know. I will probably mention this again in July.

Just a suggestion here.....

To get out of the heat for the 4th of July.
Our local club goes to the Payson Area.
Last year there was a great event, games, runs
ice cream social, camping. I think it is put on
by the Rim Country 4-Wheelers. I don't see anything
on the ASA4WDC calender. We had a great time last
year. It was not over crowded! Just 4-wheeler families!
I will be up there this year too.
If anyone is interested I can get more info.

Hey Troy, Let me know what you find out. What I did was go to exit 114 where ya'll met and just crossed the highway north into white tanks area. There looked to be some great 4wheeling everywhere so it is somewhere I would like to go....but...
I drove into that area to see if I could see any of you or hear ya'll on the cb. Neither happened so that is when I went to the front gate.
I have the map from the gate here next to me and it has no offroad travel signs all over it. Like I said earlier you might want to check out the topo map at Mesa world of maps, I know the blm land you have to get a permit for. The proving grounds wasn't that large but the white tanks park covered everything else and that's what has the no offroad travel all over it. I would love to go up that big dirt road you see going up the south east side!

I've been up the "big dirt road" on the southeast side of the mountain.
It is graded and has signs along the side of the road that tells the per
cent grade of the road, the distance that you have been traveling along
at the grade and the amount of distance to go before the grade amount of
the road changes again. The only reason 4WD is needed is that 2WD
would tear up the road where the wheels spin.

The road starts at the west end of Indian school (just slightly north of
the intersection of Indian School and I believe 195th Ave. There is a
big locked gate blocking the way. The road leads up to the radio towers
at the top of the mtn.

Eric -- who has yet to go on an outing.

I highly recommend camping at Lockett Meadow if we go wheeling at the
Cinders. This is a great place at the foot of the Inner Basin, very close to
the Cinders, in a scenic Aspen forest, at about 8500 feet.

The camping is considered primitive, with no facilities, although there is
one outhouse near the hiking trailhead. The Trailhead leads into the Inner
Basin and offers some great hiking. You can even connect to the Weatherford
Trail which will get you to the summit of Mt. Humphrey's.

I would recommend a trip the week before or the week after 4th of July to
avoid the crowds (6/25 or 7/9). Some of us could go on Friday afternoon to
pick a camp site. The camp sites are large enough for a good crowd. The best
camp sites are near the trailhead (and the outhouse). The weather will be
cool and nice.

I might be inclined to hike to the summit one day and go wheeling another
day. I tried to reach the summit last year about this time, but late snows
left the trails impassible above 10,000 feet without the right equipment.
'Course it was fun being waist deep in snow in June.

Any takers?

one outhouse near the hiking trailhead.

Any takers?

Linda, Dan,
How is the wheeling at the cinders? Is this similar to driving on sand?
Seems like it would be.
I am interested in attending this run, I would like to camp out also.

Scott,
I was wondering what you and some of the others that happend to finish Tr42.
thought the rating of the trail was. Also did it get worse after the BIG hill climb
or were we almost to the end of the trail..

I wanted to appolagize to everyone that attended the Tr42 run, I am still new at this
and am trying to do the best I can. The Big hill climb was just too much for me. I
would also like to thank the Guy (forgot name) who helped spot me on numerous occasions
I may not have made it as far as I did without his help. Also I would like to thank the driver
of the 98Xj for taking soo many pix of my ride oh and strapping me when i got stuck.
I really enjoyed the run and got lots of puker out of it. This was about the hardest trail I
have run. Thanks agian to all I had A great time. Looking forward to seeing you all agian.
Scott, Great job as leader too..

Anyone gonna do a trail report for Trail 42?
I endid up with a crease in my body brace from the sand berm I had to get tugged off of. The center of the crease goes right between the two bolts that mount the transfer case, ofcourse, they are about a 1/4 to 1/2 inch pushed verticly from their original positions. Anyone know how to get this bend out? I think it will take some serious weight/pressure.
