You could post messages from your browser to az_vjc@makelist.com and they should come through already wrapped.

Is there any way I can post messages in eGroups so that I
don't have to manually insert a at the end of every
line. I'm surprised the posting textarea doesn't isn't
configured for that.

Just curious.

Hey all,

I still need pics for Chili Dawg, Eric, Papa Tonka and Tonka. Of course,
Dan and DougB, two of the originals, still haven't submitted pics or
writeups of their rigs, so maybe they need to be chastised at the next
meeting ;-)

We've got 112 members now, and it looks like the summer is starting to
pick far as planning goes. Keep an eye on the webpage for current plans,
I will try to keep them as up-to-date as possible, since finding the
right thread with current plans can be a pain sometimes.

Am thinking of selling the CJ5, some assembly is required. E-mail me for
details.

James --

A friend and I are planning on the Moab trip roughly one week from now. We
will be leaving around noon Friday June 18th to arrive in Moab 8:00pm or
there abouts. Plans are still a bit shakey, but Kane Creek is a trail I've
never done that we will try to do.

I've done the following in my XJ:
Metal Masher
Secret Spire (boring)
Behind The Rocks
Fins N Things
Poison Spider Mesa
Golden Spike (last 1/3 in a loop)

I wouldn't mind doing one of these again, but I'm up for anything fun. If
I'm in the XJ, body damage is really not my interest, so if you have any
ideas, please throw them my way.

Any ideas on whether this interests you enough to tag along? If so, what
type of rig will you be bringing? I will most likely bring my XJ but may
tow the CJ if it's trail-ready by then.

Anyway, we'll be camping on Fri, Sat, and Sun nights, not lodging. Email me
if you want more information.

Later,

Oh ya Jeff, my geektech talk was off! I didn't mean my xfer case was 4.11 but yes my axle ratio. All the computations still come out correct, just a bit off on the wording. I know the gps bit puts you off by a few hundered feet, I didn't realize it put you off by mph though. Jokoolchav, who knows if the tach is off, does anyone know if larger tire size affects the tachometer also? Actually I think the tach/speedometer sensor tells you what your tach is and the speedometer reads accordingly, not knowing that you have larger tires. So the tachometer reading is always correct but what you do with those revolutions depends on tire size, and that changes your actuall speed.

The tachometer and speedometer are completely independent of each other. The tachometer measures rpms at the motor, the speedo measures rpms at the t-case output. The speedo sending unit then sends this info up to the speedometer in the dash. You need to change the speedo gear at the transfercase. It's a 5 minute job and I've gotten the gears from the dealer for about $8. I know that the computer on the TJ's and late model YJ's uses the info from the tach and speedo to set timing and fuel mixtures. The only one you need to worry about is the speedo.

There is a great java applet on the web that lets you input Jeep model, tire size, and axle gearing and tells you how many tooth speedo gear you need to ask the parts department for. If I can find it I'll post a reply.

It all started last sunday.....got a call my kid wiped
out on a bike in Lake Havasu City... so I had to zip out
there i my trusty XJ..(not so trusty this trip)!

On the way back to Flagstaff...... by back roads of
course, my jeep hemoraged!!!!..... busted a seam on the
radiator, 75 miles from no where!

Driving one mile an hour (drive till it gets warm....shut
it off and wait for it to cool a little), I finally got to
beautiful downtown seligman and called a tow truck to get
me back to Flagstaff.

When arriving in Flagstaff.....16 hours after I started
.....I got onto the internet and found an article about
replacing the cooling system on older XJ's with a 1992

sorry......buisness inreruptus......I ordered the new 3
pass radiator for the 1992 and heater valve.....I also
needed an overflow bottle and about 7' of 5/8" heater hose.

The change over only took 3 hours from start to finish It
was a great joy ripping the cooling guts out of my 88 XJ.
After the conversion the difference is amazing..... it will
not run over 220*. By replacing the heater valve the ac
works at least 50% better.

Today I had to tow a 4500lb trailer from prescott to
Flagstaff through Ashfork. and without a switch for the
aux. fan, the temp never rose over 240*, and as it rose
I used the a/c on max to help cool the radiator( the aux
fan turns on every time the comperssor cycles on..... the
jeep actually runs cooler with the a/c on.

You can find the article at off-road.com/cherokee america.

hope to ride with you all soon

I suppose it is off topic, but real enough.

The unique thing is that this virus replicates through email by using your
email address to send itself to people you have sent messages to.

That means if it comes to you, it will look like it is coming from someone
you know, and ostensibly trust. That's why so many people are executing this
exe file without checking it first. In this case it is represented as a self
extracting zip file.

Bottom line is, don't trust any exe file, no matter who appears to have sent
it. Confirm from the sender first.

Now, back to our regular broadcast...

How about adding a link at your site to the AZVJC photo albums at:

http://albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumList?u=28170

This has several trail runs, plus an album of "OurJeeps".

We are getting hundreds of hits, so thanks for visiting. If you have pictures
of trail runs, lets add them!

As it stands right now, I'm going to be there, with bells on. Got my
tranny/transfer case crossmember replaced late last night, started working
on the darn thing monday, sheez, nothin's simple anymore. I had to change
EVERYTHING. But I got 14" vs the 11 3/4" of clearance I started with. I have
one major outstanding issue to resolve with my ARB line for the rear diff
bein' in 2 pieces, that I will have to fix today, then the test drive and
cleanin' up my mess. (wife's a little peeved about the JEEP widow thing, so
i'll have to do a little patchin' up here also). But other than that, I'll
be there, I have to check on the CJ-7 guy lacking experience, Ross and his
whole famn damily are gonna be there, I had no takers on a copilot so I'm
using one of his boys to fill the shotgun seat. Neighbors down the street,
Buzz and Stacey are going in their JEEP. And I've burned enough daylight
writin' this. Got a full day ahead. Everyone Be Good.

Can anyone out there recommend a short, not too nasty, but not too easy, trip for an early morning Sunday run? I can't make the White Tanks tomorrow, although that sounds fun! I'm leaving for vacation Wednesday and don't get to take the Jeep. :( I need to get in as much "Jeep time" as I can before leaving to help ease the pain.

We usually hit Box Canyon, Coke Ovens, Martinez, the whole area since I leave in the East Valley. So we're looking for something of a similar challenge that we can get to, through, and back in 5 or 6 hours.

Many years ago as a kid I remember riding ATV's around Sunflower off the Beeline highway. Has anyone seen any good trails that way? I've got the 'famous' AZ 4x4 trails book, but I know there's more out there!! We've hit most of those already and are looking for a new challenge.

Any suggestions?

I'm new to the group, so after vacation I hope to make some of the runs and meet all the folks. By the amount of advice, chatter, and talk of Jeeps, it sounds like you're a great group of people.

Thanks!

There are several great trails in the Sunflower area, but some should not be taken alone (class 3+ to 4). However, there are several lighter ones that you might enjoy:

1- Power Line trail...past Sunflower on the left, look for the Power Lines. The trail follows these to Bartlett Lake. Class 2

2- Reno Pass light class 3. Go to the Web site for directions

3- Indian Springs trail class 2. Go toward Sunflower, and several miles before Sunflower you'll come to Sycamore Creek (signed), go left (west) over SR87 and take dirt road to the creek. Parallel the creek for a very short distance and you'll see a trail to the right. It has a FS #, but I forget what it is. This will take you toward Maverick Mtn to the NW, but won't get you there. However, it's a pretty nice and short trail. If your into rock hounding, there are some Quartz outcroppings along the way. The trail ends in Indian Springs wash.

I bought a new bushing for the left upper control arm ($26) and decided to go by an alignment shop to get an idea of what it would take to get it replaced. I think I am going to do it myself since it isn't an extreme press fit. I think a pitman arm puller and slide hammer will do the job.

Anyway, what happened was when we took off down the trail after airing down, I decided to put the transfer case in full-time 4wd. This put enough stress on the front axle to make the axle shift and clunk. Not a good thing! I have known that this bushing was going to have to be replaced for quite some time so
I wasn't surprised when this happened.

I guess the trip to the White Tanks on Sunday is out. I'll be wrenching on the Jeep the rest of the weekend.

Hope you all had a good time!

Just got home from the run. We finished up at Horseshoe Lake at 2:00. For
those that left by way of Indian Springs wash after lunch, the second half
of the run went very fast as we cruised thru the sandy washes.

The headcount as I remember was 6 TJ's, 1 YJ, 3 XJ's, 1 ZJ (Linda who left
early), 1 CJ, and a Toyota Fourrunner <was he lost?> ;)

I had a great time and am looking forward to seeing the pics. I'd appreciate
it if those of you who took pics could e-mail them to me.

We're leaving early, about 6:00 am, be there around 7:00 am I'll monitor channel 4 for you guys. I''m towing the JEEP out with a sky blue ford extended cab 4x4, Ross is in a root beer brown '84 CJ-7, and Buzz is in a forest green CJ-7. Can anyone remind me of the url and instructions for posting pix to the VJC
site on PhotoPoint? I run 2 computers and I can't seem to find it on either.

I have posted the Bartlett to Horseshoe pix on my site for now. I will also
send them to Scott K. and PhotoPoint VJC once I get the instructions.

URL for my site later this AM.

Great run, Scott. Thanks.

Pix from Scott Kruize led Saturday run from Bartlett Lake to Horseshoe Dam.
I will post more from the videos a bit later.

These photos started put at 1280x960. They were resized to 640x480 and
saved as 75% compression JPEG's for Internet efficiency. If anyone wants an
original (about 900k) email me with the name of the picture.

These will be moved to the AZVJC PhotoPoint site as soon as I get
instructions on how and where.

Subject: Fragged Clutch

Well, it appears I've joined the ranks of those who never made it to the trailhead today...The plan was simple enough, go out and have a good time with the gang out west of White Tanks, I barely got the JEEP off the trailer, when disaster struck in the form of an extremely disheartening grinding and chewing noise emminating from the drivetrain. At first, it was assumed I had grenaded the tranny, but closer inspection upon arrival back home, revealed the culprit of the God Awful crunching sound from underneath my JEEP to actually be the clutch. I can't see it making that much noise without at least the pressure plate being completely nuked. Well, I think the only appropriate action would be to wallow in my own self pity for at least today (while everyone else has fun) and then tear it apart starting tomorrow..sob,... sniffle,... It only makes it worse that this would have been my first run with you guys, Geez, I hope this doesn't set the tone for future trips. I guess in a way it beats having to take a strap all the way back from the middle of the run. Guess that just goes to show you, mechanical failure has no prejudice. Be Good.
Later.

Just email a message with the photo attached to:

photos@p...

The body can be blank, but the subject line must read exactly:

"Account: azvjc@a..."

without the quotes.

That will get it to the incoming folder. Just email me when done and I'll
create an album for this trip and put them in there.

Thanks!
