new to the jeep thing and im having some trouble please help

I recently purchased a 02 TJ, it is completely stock for now. I am getting ready to do some mods but Iwant to figure out this issue before doing so... What I am experincing is a clicking noise coming from the rear... The best I can describe the sound is like the clicking from a torque wrench times 10 (clicking noise). It only clicks once when I take off from a stop and then if I go in reverse and the forwards it seemes to click about four times... can any of you out there help me... there is a lil play in the driveshaft between the rear axel and transfer case but there is no play in the yokes that I can tell at all...also when u lift the jeep in the air and take all the weight off tires ( drive train) it doesn't make a sound ? anything will be help full thank u

Sounds like u joint in driveshaft.

Maybe a locker?

Hard to say without hearing it. Could be brakes, ujoint, bearing, loose lug nuts, stone in the tire, nail in tire, broken ring gear.

What part of town are you in? East, west, north?

Without hearing it I would say it is most likely your U-Joints. Had the same problem a couple years back and kept putting it off. Needless to say I was stuck in the middle of nowhere, had busted rear driveshaft and only a set of old rusted pliers. It made for a very, very long night.

Mine clicks all the time! I got a lockright locker in the rear!

Try this... drive it 'straight' forward 25 feet slowly and listen for clicks. Then try the same thing again, but only in a big circle. If it clicks in the circle, but not straight then you might have a lockright in the rear. If it clicks going straight it's time to have a wrenching party and get some second opinions!
