Meetings to focus on Agua Fria conservation area scheduled
(Morristown) – On July 1, 2007, the Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Department and Bureau of Reclamation began enforcing the restriction on motorized vehicle use in the Agua Fria conservation area at Lake Pleasant Regional Park. The decision to enforce Park Rule R-107 was made to ensure public safety and to protect the conservation area.
At this time, the agencies are in the process of preparing a long-term plan for the area and would like to hear from members of the community who recreate in the Agua Fria conservation area. Interested parties are encouraged to attend one of three upcoming public meeting:
· September 6, 6:30 p.m., Desert Outdoor Center on the east side of Lake Pleasant Regional Park, 41402 N. 87th Avenue, Peoria.
· September 12, 6:30 at the Desert Outdoor Center.
· September 17, 6:30 p.m., Albins Civic Center located at 19005 E. K-Mine Road Center in Black Canyon City.
Driving directions for each location may be found at www.maricopa.gov.parks. Parties that can not attend a meeting but would like to submit comments may do so via the website at www.maricopa.gov/parks/lake_pleasant/AguaFriameetings.aspx.

First of all, the actual link to the locations is: http://www.maricopa.gov/parks/
D'ya ever get the feeling that they hold these meetings in such remote places to keep the majority of us from attending? For crying out loud, 4-million something n. 87th ave? :p kidding, but still.
We for sure can't make it to the 6th but I'll see about the 12th. I really don't think I can drive to Black Canyon City on the 17th, but I have some friends who might.
In the mean time I will write a nice letter to them and try to get a number of friends to do the same . . .
Keep up the good fight.

These meetings are at LAKE PLEASANT.......... NOT BFE This is the area involved in the closures and I know most, if not all, of our recreationists go to this area almost every weekend. The Outdoor Center is at the Harbour of Lake Pleasant. When heading west on Carefree Hwy to Castle Hot Springs Road for access to Crown King the Harbour is at the end of the road that turns right off Carefree Hwy just before Carefree Hwy turns west. It beats fighting traffic and traffic lights in downtown. If the gate is closed there will be a code posted on the gate. These meetings are important for YOUR INPUT......... remember......... this area is proposed closed because of OHV ABUSE to the area. Maybe not individually the cause by any of those attending the meeting or recreating responsibily but most certainly by OHV.
The Bradshaw Foothills Coalition is proposing an alternate trail be made to connect Table Mesa to Castle Hot Springs area but unless there is support for this plan it too will fail.
Be Involved.................. It works!

This has already been posted. The meetings are for the conservation area, though I suspect that there will be some discussion about what's happening outside the fence as well.
Here's a copy of the flyer.

The "Conservation Area" also includes access to the Lake from the east.... "Table Mesa", as well as an OLD trail that cuts across the northeast tip of this area thusly making the only route west is via Tip Top Mine Road. The other issue that needs to be addressed is is another road / trail to be made north of the closed area to connect east with west. This will NOT be achieved if OHV doesn't show and express their needs..................
These meetings are not simply about the closed area. The biggest issue and a number of OHV enthusiasts have dedicated time to is how to make this closure/protection work with surrounding areas and OHV opportunities.
