I was channel surfing last night and happened to watch the 10pm news on KPHO 5.

They had a story on the Oak Flats deal. It was late for me and I can't remember all of it but here is a summery:

The mine is owned by a company outside the USA.
They want to swap private land for Oak Flats.
Congress is supposed to vote in the coming months.
The mine will not open for about 10 years.
We will still have access for a "few" more years.
They will be "Block" mining and it will change the landscape a little.
It will not be an open pit.

I could not find a link on their website. The reporter was at the air-down spot and did show one of the drill rigs.

I saw it too. The rep for the mine company talked about what a great dealo it was because the land they were offereing was some of the most sought after land in the state. They also claimed that the process they will use will be lo-impact. YET they interviewed an old miner from the area and he said the process they are planning to use will destroy the area. Sandee, what is the latest on this? If they go with the mine will we loose the whole area?

Gargamel and Azriel, they just need to run off those pesky Smurfs!!! Actually, I missed that. I don't think they said. I read in another forum here which stated where they were from.

I believe it's an Australian Mining company but don't hold me to that. I know the big mining site in downtown Globe is and I think Resolution Copper is tied in ?????

Whatever comes down with this will be a number of years out....... I'm still being told OHV will not be banned by the mining should they get this exchange.??? Who knows.
This group that is pushing the landfill in the Florence Junction area are blowing smoke like you wouldn't believe........... now that it's coming down to the wire FACTS are beginning to arise.

Right now our biggest problem is what Globe Ranger District is doing regarding the Transportation Planning for this area. What is on the first page right now is CLOSURE OF MOST........... SO .......... OHV may lose either way. We MUST stay in close contact with the planning and be AT THE TABLE for the planning or we will most definitely LOSE.
