What’s Open in Arizona?
WILLIAMS, AZ—Forest Service officials with the Kaibab Naitonal Forest want to remind the public that forest campgrounds remain open in the Williams area and at the Ten-X campground a few miles south of Tusayan. The main access roads to developed campgrounds are open. The North Kaibab district, located north and adjacent to the north rim of Grand Canyon National Park remains open to public use which includes activities such as camping, hiking, and biking.

“We’ve gotten feedback from visitors who thought the campgrounds around Williams and Tusayan were closed and didn’t know that a big part of the forest, the North Kaibab district, is still open,” stated Forest Supervisor Mike Williams. We want people to know that opportunities still exist to come and enjoy the forest, just be careful while visiting.”

In areas of the forest remaining open restrictions are still in place including a ban on all open fires, a prohibition against using motorized vehicles off developed roads, and smoking is only permitted in enclosed vehicles or buildings. All activities are prohibited in closed areas of the forest

Fire danger on the North Kaibab district is not as great as in the areas of the forest surrounding Williams, Parks, and Tusayan, fire managers continue to monitor forest conditions.

All federal and state highways, as well as Coconino County and City of Williams roads within the closure areas will remain open unless otherwise restricted by the responsible agency. Area closures will be rescinded only after significant precipitation.

For more information call:

Area Closure Information Center, 928-527-3693, or 3676 – for information on restrictions and closures on the Kaibab and Coconino National Forests.

Mesa, AZ, Monday, June 10, 2002…Fire restrictions and area closures are still in effect for Arizona. Fire danger is now extreme over the entire state necessitating the continuation of campfire and smoking restrictions on most public and Indian reservation lands statewide. Large area closures continue on several National Forests. The Coronado and Prescott National Forests are still under an entire public closure except for US and State Highways and the Sabino Canyon Visitor Center. Kaibab National Forest lands south of the Grand Canyon also continue to be closed to the public, while the North Kaibab Ranger District, north of the Grand Canyon will remain open but still with campfire and smoking restrictions. Additional closures on the Coconino National Forest include areas along Oak Creek, West Clear Creek, Beaver Creek and Upper Cedar Flat (for more specific information in these areas, visit the website or call the toll free number listed below). Fire restrictions and area closures are likely to remain in effect at least until the beginning of the summer monsoon season, which normally occurs in July.

So what’s open?

Developed campgrounds are still open in many National Forest locations. Other recreational areas that remain open with fire restrictions are all Arizona State Parks, much of Bureau of Land Management and Indian Reservation lands, City and County lands, Arizona State Wildlife Areas and all National Parks. Travelers are urged to contact an office of the local land management agency they wish to visit before leaving home to determine the status of a particular campground.

For more information about fire restrictions and area closures call toll-free 877-864-6985 or go to the Arizona Interagency Fire Prevention website at www.azfireinfo.com

Hi All!

I've been wanting a Wrangler now since as far as I can remember.
Last Dec I was planning on buying an 02, but then I read about the
Rubicon and decided to hold off. I've read online (jeep+willys,
jeepsunlimited) that some people are beginning to order these. I was
considering ordering online at JeepWarehouse since Bill can offer it
at invoice but I'd rather order it locally if I can get it for
invoice _and_ save the $500 "delivery/prep" fee.

Is there a preferred dealer among this group? I work in Tempe and
pass by Earnhardt's a lot and it seems that they have the largest
selection of TJs around. Are they pretty good to deal with? Anyone
have a preferred sales person?

Jim

That depends on who you talk to there Nick. I have always taken my
TJ there, and always walk away happy. There is a service guy there
that is just an ***, and he hates Jeeps, so he will treat you like
****, and tell you that nothing is under warranty because you lifted
it.

Then there is Mark Underwood, who is a Jeep owner, and he will treat
you right. He has let alot of my work go through because he knows
what it is like to own a lifted TJ, and how to treat you as a person.

Go talk to Eric over at Pitre on Mcdowell in Scottsdale, he is one of
the friendliest service individuals I have ever encountered. I avoid
Earnhardt at all costs, I am sure that there are some people such as
Mark Underwood who are good people there but the snakes and scumbags
at Earnhardt well outweigh the nice people there.

Hi Jim,

Darner's in Mesa has been very good to quite a few AZVJCers... they offer us
a discount on parts and they have gone out of their way to give warranty
service when some of our rigs were out of warranty.

Here's what I'd recommend: Go to Earnhardts and get your best possible
price. Then go to Darner's and let them beat it by a little OR let them
give you the same deal...

Kind Regards,

Joe West

I've dealt with Brian at Pitre a few times. He's super cool and has
a lifted TJ so you can talk Jeep while it's being serviced. He'll
even give you some good pointers. Bought my Jeep used at Earnhardt's
got a great deal because I know someone high up, but I still don't
recommend them. They are WAY overpriced for everything. Vehicles,
parts, and service. Pitre is close and I always receive great
service.

It doesn't really matter where you go. Do your homework. Get the
invoice price from an internet site. Use this and never pay more than
what the invoice price was.
I just bought a Trailblazer and got a little over 4G's off of it. I
learned my lesson with the vehicle b4 (negative equity sucks). There
are rarely any incentives on TJ's, so that won't help.
Again, never pay more than invoice price. WALK AWAY if they won't give
it to you for that. Also deal with price, NEVER payment. Finally never
talk about your trade until you have established the price on the new
vehicle.

It is a pain and plan on walking away.
