Bent the center skid a couple times and after the last time it is giving me trouble. I came down on it hard in the rear center and bent it up in a bit of a V. On the TJ's, the exhaust has a mount to the t-case and since the t-case is pushed up, so is the exhaust and now it rattles on stuff underneath as well as the t-case rattling. Need a fix but trying to decide how to proceed.
My skid is pretty well blasted but I have one that I picked up from a Rubicon, I think 2004, would it be the same as my 2006 unlimited skid? I have thought about cutting this one a bit and re-enforcing the areas that bent on mine, adding some beef to it and then putting it on. I currently run the Skid Row Automotive front skid to cover my automatic and oil pan.
I have also tried to look at some aftermarket ones but what I found was belly-ups and they are more costly and I really do not want to put in a body lift. I have back and hip problems and the height is a problem, I can get in now but don't want to go higher (how many hard wheeled jeeps do you see with HC license plates!!). Todd (D-Fab) was talking about the Nth degree but it is a belly up and a bit pricey.
Todd mentioned an RE kit but I have not seen it yet and we got off to talking about the buggy and I forgot to ask him more. i have not been able to find an RE center skid tho.
Money is a very definite issue but protecting the jeep is too so I wanted to ask what ideas and thoughts other people had. Should/Can I mod the rubi skid I have and make it stronger or should I buy a new center skid (remember, have the S.R.A. front skid) and if so, what is a good skid to get.
I do have access to a welder and if needed, a plasma cutter but I have to go to PV for that!!
