Subject: Oil Recycling
This is the recycling policy from Checker Auto's web page. Notice they
just talk about Oil and don't break it down as to type. I also called
the checker at 3939 W Ray in Chandler and they do take gear oil. Guess
this is why I've never had a problem with checker.

Keeping Your Community Clean
Car maintenance often results in environmentally hazardous waste
materials. That's why Advance Auto Parts, Checker Auto Parts, Schuck's
Auto Supply and Kragen Auto Parts have easy-to-use recycling programs to
help you keep your community clean.
The following recycling programs are currently available (depending on
your location):
* Oil - Used oil is collected in tanks at store locations. A
recovery company will reprocess it to make products like industrial and
marine fuels, base oils and asphalt.
* Oil Filters - Once drained of excess oil, filters are recycled
into new steel products such as cans, cars, appliances and construction
materials.
* Antifreeze - Old antifreeze is distilled for its reusable
coolants to be used in automotive and industrial applications.
* Batteries - Used batteries are returned to manufacturers, where
they are broken down into their lead, plastic and acid components for
use in a variety of other products and applications.
Please contact your local Advance Auto Parts, Checker Auto Parts,
Schuck's Auto Supply or Kragen Auto Parts for details on their programs.

Subject: re-introducing... me!
Greetings,
I should reintroduce myself: I used to be on this
list but I fell off the edge of it when I switched providers
a while back. My name is Anthony Nemmer, I own a 94 YJ, all
work done by Flyin' Hi (and I have to say that for the most
part, they did a good job.) I am a perl programmer but I
am currently not working at the present.
Here are some pics of my jeep, along with some photos of
me and Randal Schwartz (well-known perl personality) having
lunch at H@@TERs. Randal took all the pics, including
those of my jeep:
http://www.users.qwest.net/~intertwingled/myjeep/
Also, I have a question. I recently discovered that
the left engine mount on my YJ is gone, the rubber has
disintegrated, and I am replacing that and also the
transmission mount (the right engine mount appears
to be OK.) My question is, I have a four inch suspension
lift, and that causes the engine to tilt up a bit.
Will that be any problem when I put the new engine and
tranny mounts on?
Thanks,
Anthony Nemmer

Well, we finally started the hood vent project on the ZJ. I posted one
picture and will post the rest of the work later. We need some dzus
fasteners to complete the job. The hole is big enough to mount a 6"
slimline fan. I am thinking of doing that. Thanks Len and Scott for the
encouragement. :-)

My wife and I were at Sardella's on 43rd. As we were pulling up we noticed a nice white XJ and went and parked. As we got out a lady by the name of Sheryl I believe asked if we have ever heard of Toys by Troy. She was very polite and gave me a brochure and asked if I would use there shop. I said if I ever did pay anyone it would be John at Hunter off-road. She said great, he's a great guy. I said that more thank likely I would just have a club member help or do nanywork. she asked would club and I pointed to the sticker. She said OH the virtual club. Said thank you for listening and asked us to come stop by some time.
I guess the moral is that it's great to see competitors not bashing one another.

I don't know the specific details for the US but in Canada most garages have arrangements with suppliers who pick up old solvents and fluids on a regular basis and replace them with new fluids. They then recycle, clean, redistill, filter etc, whatever is appropriate the old fluids. For some where there is no economical or practical recycle they can be burned in a high temperature burner that breaks them down to CO2 and H2O with no harmful effects. Ask around at major auto repair chains with large volumes of fluid recovery.

I know that Auto Zone will take used motor oil, but I can't find any were to take things such as ATF, anti freeze, gear oil. I live in Tucson AZ and am a member of a four wheel drive group that are concerned about the world around us. Most of the members are in Phoenix and there surrounding areas, and would like to dump other than oil but don't know where.

Thanks to Rick Beers and Steve James for help me with getting out in
2wd. I made it home safe but it sure is a long drive to Chandler at
35mph. Will tear into it in the morning and find out what is bad.
