I've been to a couple of the most popular ones. The one half way up the road to the airport is the most popular. There are some that believe there is an energy concentration there. Lots of literature available on the subject, and there's even guided Vortex tours. I personally did not experience any noticeable effects while visiting the sites, but I also believe spiritual experiences are what you make of them. The vortex sites are beautiful places in themselves and I'm sure could provide a spiritual experience for those so inclined. I would have to say, yes, if you have any interest in this then pick one or two or all of them and go visit.
Here is a map that I have showing the vortex sites:

There Is A Vortex On Oak Creek You Get To Thru Cresent Moon St. Park. All The Woo Woo's Stack Rocks In Formations. There Is Swimming And A Rope Swing Down There. Cresent Moon State Park Gets Crowded.
If You Want To Camp Let Me Know. I Know A Few Spots On The Creek That Are Accessible Only With 4wd.

I believe Bell Rock is supposed to be one....been there....the earth didnt move and I didn't get the heebie jeebies...or goose bumps... Beautiful areas of land, though.
If you ever get a chance in September or October, go to Chapel rock at night, lay out a blanket and watch the shooting stars.:)

I don't think any of them are on 4WD-type roads. Hiking trail from a regular parking area is the usual access. I'm no expert on this though, ask SedonaCowGirl or SedonaRick here on the board. They are two of the Sedona gurus here.

Be very careful around the Vortex's. Most bosses don't consider the "I got sucked into a Vortex for 3 days" a good excuse for missing work!

There Is A Building On The Corner Of Dry Creek & 89a Called The Dry Creek Center. It Use To To Be A Movie Theatre "Cinadona".
When We Remodeled It 5 Years Ago They Dug A Pit For An Elevator. I Think There Was A Vortex Uncovered There.
I Only Say This Because When We Go Back Now For Any Tenant Improvements All The Profit Is Sucked Out Of The Budgets.

If I remember correctly from me Sedona Jeep tour guide days. Vortexes are not + and – as in bad or good. They are + & - like the terminals of a battery, in and out. Most look at them as masculine and feminine. Masculine vortexes like “Bell Rock” offer an out going energy. You use this kind of vortex to send your energy or prayers to the universe. Feminine vortexes like “Cathedral Rock” have an incoming energy. This kind is used to receive energy or prayers from the universe.
None of the vortexes need a 4x4 to get to. Some you can park next to and some have a short hike to get to.

There are some "lesser" vortex sites you can Jeep to and not have many folks around to suck up all the energy. :D If you swing by the shop, Maggie or I can draw some maps out for you.
Here is the background on the vortex sites: In the early 80's (I remember this) a medium by the name of Page Bryant announced that a spirit came to her and identified the four main vortex sites: Bell Rock, Cathedral Rock, Airport Mesa, and Boynton Canyon. This spirit told her that these were special places to be used for teaching people about reconnecting with the earth. That's it. But just like other "telephone" games, the interpretation has totally spiraled out of control (pun intended).
Now, Page was a laterally blessed woman--about 5'2", 350 pounds, so not only was she more of an "extra-large" than a "medium" (he-he--just a little guide humor! :D) but, coincidentally, the four main vortex sites are all located within 25 yards of a paved road. Coincidence? ;)
My advice: go with an open mind, watch your wallet, and just enjoy how the beauty of the place moves your spirit, if nothing else. :)

You'll know you're there if you feel the money being sucked out of your wallet, and you have the urge to change your name to Sunrise Moonfeather. :D
Actually, what most recommend is that you go find your own "power place"--no other person can find it for you.
Dan--stop by and see us sometime! How is the D35 holding up? ;)

For those who where curious about the vortex's. I went to two the Boyton canyon and the airport vortex. I unfortunatly didnt see any wierdos or JuJu's I did see a few twisted trees. The vortex's also seem to be high atop hills and mountains wich made for good photo opps. If your interested there are a few photos from my trip.
