Daren,
OK, this is what I have.............. checked with Joanna at the PLIC
(Public Lands Information Center) re the status of lands around Maricopa,
Casa Grande & Stanfield............ next time I'm downtown I'll pick up a
couple of maps from this area. I have numerous maps from areas I recreate
in regularly but looks like I need to update or add on to my map file.....

Land Status around Maricopa, Casa Grande & Stanfield:
NO BLM lands..........
Probably 85%+ are PRIVATE lands.
Scattered State Trust
Indian Nation Lands

Maricopa itself is Indian Nation......
Surrounding Casa Grande is private & scattering of State Trust....
Surrounding Stanfield is private, State Trust and WILDERNESS........

The Wilderness area is "Table Top Wilderness" which surrounds Table Top
Mountain (4373 ft)....

If your friend is looking at "private" please be sure you have permission
from the land owner to recreate on these lands.

Check out the PLIC ........... they have EVERY map you would need or want.
222 N. Central, Phoenix
The PLIC is located in the southeast corner of the BLM building on the
Southwest corner of Central & Van Buren.
If you park in the parking garage 1/2 blk west of Central off Van Buren,
PLIC will validate your parking ticket.

Take care,
Sandee

Mike,

go with option #2. It is similar to what I run and it works well.

I think PorterCable is building a smaller tank/higher pressure compressor.
It looks interesting.

Did you check out the units at Home Depot? How did they compare?

If you can, find out how loud they are when running. My portable oil-less
unit was so loud you could not be in the garage when it was running. My
current oil lubed unit is not too bad. I used to own a unit that was
converted from a refrigerator. It was almost silent, but was way
underpowered for my needs today. Remember, every 3 db more is twice as loud!

Scott

Working at RockfordFosgate where every 3 db more is twice as loud, and
that's a good thing!

I have your Option #3. Craftsman 60 gal, It kicks a**.
Its on it's 3rd or 4th year of constant use just about every weekend
& nothing has gone wrong or failed & I've never had a lack of air
pressure for anything. Its a killer compressor for the money.

Mike,
Get the specs on the air tools that you will be using
and get the compressor that has a higher SCFM rating
than the highest one requires. I am using the 110V 6
HP 30 gal Craftsman compressor and it is pretty much
at it's limits. Remember that your Sanders and cutters
will consume the most air.

I would get the 60 gallon oil lubed one. I have a 60 gal oilless,
and it is louder than hell. I bought mine for body and paint, so the
bigger tank is essential. Go bigger baby!

Mark,

Your question boils down to this:

1. Do you want to spend more money for a stronger more durable
transfer case
with lower available gears (4.3:1)
or
2. Do you want to spend less money on upgrading what you currently
have and
live with a weaker transfer case.

a) My guess is that 99.999% of the people who own Jeeps can live with
option
2 because they will never need the capability of an AtlasII transfer
case
and they will likely never overstress the NP231.

b) There are those who frequently push their rigs to the point where
they
will break the chain driven NP231... and for those in this camp; the
AtlasII
is a good option.

Statistically speaking, you are more likely to fall in category a) and
therefore will do just fine with the NP231.

If however, you have the money, you wheel extremely hard and you
don't like
to do things twice... you absolutely cannot go wrong with the AtlasII
transfer case... I own one, and I absolutely love it.

Kind Regards,

I think Table Mesa Trail is on State Trust Land so that would mean it is closed, not sure but I know there are signs that say it's either BLM or State Trust Land, but I like some others would say to not go Off-roading right now, we don't need any problems, I'd wait untill it rain. Just my thoughts

My classified ad is still valid for the 4 foot by four foot
flatbed utility trailer. I got a few good bites at first, and then
everybody disappeared! If you would be interested, give me an email
after checking out my classified ad, and, if you want to see it,
either come over, or tell me when and where to drag it to you! I
will meet you at a convenient place to let you look at it. It's in
GREAT shape, and will make a good cargo trailer. Plus, as soon as I
sell it I will have that much more $$$ to put into my rig... First
$150 takes it.

Why did you tell them is was diff oil? as long as it is oil and not anti-freeze they should accept it. Oil is oil ain't it!?
Not sure if you can give 'em brake fluid though.

Steven,

I have personally recycled diff oil, ATF, and motor oil at both of those locations (the two near me of course). I bring in my two gallon recycle container with what ever is in it and either they pour it into the big container or I do (depending on which place I go to). Ive never told them it was anything but oil.

Subject: Re: 350 swap emissions questions

Ask yourself this.........how do they know the smog pump is working at all?
Probably because the truck did not pass the tail pipe "sniffer". That led
them to determine that the smog pump was not working. According to the
testing procedure and DIRECTLY from the emissions testing "officials", they
can not fail you for the smog pump not working or not being there at all.
They CAN fail you because the lack of one caused the tail pipe emissions to
exceed the allowable limits. But they can not fail you because the item
isn't there.

As for the cracked hose, that shouldn't fail you either unless it was
causing the tank pressurizing to fail or again causing the tail pipe
emissions to fail. If someone is poking around under the hood looking for
components, then they simply are NOT doing the test properly per the
regulations/rules. They do lift your hood and clamp off the line coming
from the tank to the charcoal canister before they do the tank pressurizing.
So they will go inside for that. But they can not fail you for lacking a
smog pump or otherwise.

I believe my Jeep is living proof of that. 1983 CJ7 with a chevy 350. No
smog pump, no pulse air, no EGR, etc. The only emissions equipment I have
are catalytic converters because this enables me to pass the sniffer. Right
after I built the motor and installed it, I ran the emissions in 1999.
You'll notice it hardly registered on their system. So I am comfortable
that I am not polluting and still meeting the guidelines set forth by our
emissions systems.

One general comment to all interested in this.....I wouldn't go in with an
attitude and everything stripped off of your rig and try to push it through.
Try to be smart about what you do. When I run mine, I am sure to hook up my
charcoal canister and plug in all of the necessary vacuum lines to make
everything be in the correct places. Even though it doesn't need to be
there, I am still careful to put it all there so that questions are not
raised. Do the simple stuff that keeps them from questioning your setup.
But don't kill yourself to plum in a smog pump if you don't have one or to
purchase a new manifold that can take EGR. If you tune your system right
and make sure it is as clean as it can run, you'll be fine. I'm not one to
advocate building smoggers that destroy the environment. But I do try to
meet the standards set forth by the state and to keep my Jeep in the best
working order that I can.

Hope that helps.
