my instrument clusted is intermitantly shutting off and then coming back on. it happened to go dead as i was getting my emmisions checked and they failed me. anyway i was told that this is common with the xj (mine is 1998) and it just needs to have the electrical connecters cleaned. the problem is i have no idea how to take the cluster out. anybody done this before and can give me some advice. the sooner the better. i sold it and the buyer is coming tomorrow to pick it up and i have to get emmisions before he comes. thanks in advance

I believe it should be the same as a TJ. Two screws on the panel under the wheel, then just pull the cover off to get to the screws on the bottom of the cluster bezel, one on either side of the wheel. Pry up the long panel that goes across the top of the dash to get to the screws on the top of the cluster bezel, 2 or 3 across the top. Then just pull the bezel and there's a few more screws for the cluster itself. Piece of cake.
