Dustin, you should mark it on the outside, "Dead Man's Geocache". If it is found by someone who doesn't know what it is, they might just take it, unless it really is loaded with gold bars, then it might take a fork lift to get it out of there! :D
I'm planning on going back to my site to do this, now that it has been found, I'm curious what everyone put into the log book and maybe I will add something....

Great idea Wayne, we talked about adding something to the outside to identify it as a geocache. Anyone that wants to steal "deadman's chest" is in for a long haul, that puppy is HEAVY!!

Yeah Wayne the chest itself weighs about 50lbs plus  I put some rocks in there. Im gonna wait a few days and go back to it to add more gold coins and silver coins, so its gets to be  100lbs lol! Ya know Wayne I might have to do that. I will make a stencil then take it out there lay it on the top and paint it. Also this is in a great spot, I think its medium with a gps if you know how to work one. Lol! :D

I bought some letters at Lowe's, just the cheapie ones that come in sheets. Maybe this weekend I will go out and try to find your site. I have a big chunk of lead that we could paint gold, I used to use it as an anti-theft device in my tool box. The tool box only had one handle and weighed 80 lbs. without the lead in it. If anyone could lift it with one hand, I wasn't gonna mess with him!
Can you make stencils? Painting the name on it would last longer than sticky letters....

Oh cool, Better yet I will just go down to the shop and cut me some 3/4" thick flat bar by 2" inches wide. I got some gold paint, make about 10 of those and lay them in the bottom. Yeah I can print Dead Man's Geocache on a peice of paper, then glue it to a milla folder then cut it out with a razor blade.

This brings back memories of Portland. I organized one of the very first cacher get-togethers where I placed a pre-meeting cache for folks to find. It was an ammo box bull of "golden spikes" (railroad spikes I'd collected, wire brushed and painted gold) with instructions for each finder to take only one. Then when they showed up at the meeting spot (a local pub) they could turn in their spike for a drink on me. I bought everyone drinks but most kept their spike anyway. One of them turned into a travel bug and has been travelling around the country/world (last I heard).

http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=3098

Your cache sounds fun. I hope the first finder doesn't clean out all the goodies, leaving nothing for anyone else. And I hope it doesn't be muggled by someone who doesn't know what it is.

That sounds awesome! Im gonna do another one down the road from now, but im gonnna have Wayne help me hide it. I think im gonna give away a free bumper in one of my chest for a tj,yj,cj and maybe even a xj. Nothing too crazy just something similiar to what I been building.

Im gonna go get my cell phone fixed soon(crapy nextel) then stop by the shop and cut some flat bar and paint them gold, perhaps punch some more circles out around 400 of them and paint them as well. Im sure the box could use some more weight. Id like to make it weigh over 100lbs if I could.

Alright, so me and John(Hivemind) met up and went out to hide my Chest of Gold!! :eek:Lol, not really gold but yeah. Anyway we thought for sure we manage to get out there before the sun went down but sure enough after fighting a few dust storms and lots of wind, it was great on the way back with the breeze. Since its dark I didnt get enough pictures, but as long as your pay attention to your GPS and brings lot of water you should find it with no problem, well I hope not! Lol! My Jeep is bascially stock so its not like you need a rock crawler to get to the chest. Oh yeah and in those picture you see there is a lock on the chest. I put that there to keep all the unwanted guess away, so make sure you figure out the 3 hints for the code before searching for the chest. Adds a little more of a challenge to the game, though. Also the lock is the kind you had back in highschool for the lockers, it takes three 2 digit numbers. Again make sure you figure out the lock code before going to the chest. The code for the lock is in order with the hints, try not to mix them up! Also if you figure out the code please do not repost the code on here, keep it to yourself so others have a try at it as well. Enjoy!!:D

Hints for the Lock!!

hint for 1st number
Halloween

hint for 2nd number
One before you're legal

hint for 3rd number
Two eyes

Here is the info on the chest.:D
N 33 31'53.5"
W 112 34'56.6"

And for the other people that have a older version GPS here are 2 ways of accordence for it
N 33 31.891'
W 112 34.944'

N 33.53125
W 112.58240

Those of you going after this geocache will have a great time. I just ran the trail to Dead Man's chest geocache again today. I ran it again cause I took my daughters cause my youngest girl, Emilee, has been cracking me up lately by drawing her own Treasure Maps and wanting to do treasure hunts all over the house. She loves Pirates of the Carribean.

Well, she was really excited to go on a REAL life treasure hunt in the desert ;). See pics below. Other good news - I did not blow any tires this run - WAH-HOO!!! I am now 1W-2L with the JK stock tires.

First off, can't leave home without Emilee's map to the treasure. The creature in the bottom left hand corner is a squirrel and the items across the bottom of the map are the treasure chest and the pieces of candy that are standard in ALL treasure chests drawn by Emilee. Today's mission: Find the treasure chest before the squirrel eats all the candy ;) (Dustin, I brought along a few boxes of candy and slipped them into the chest while the girls weren't looking).

So I called down to ORI today to ask about my Rusty lift that is coming and Andy told me that a lady has called him to let him know they have the chest. I was like what? Huh whats going on? So yeah I guess this lady's husband and son were out in white tanks yesterday and they stumbled across the chest, decided to take it home and open it. All the info was in there for the geocache.com, plus the log book. So I guess Im either gonna have to make a new one or get that one from her and re hide it. Now on I will make sure to weld at least 100lbs of steel to the bottom of it and weld the letters "DEAD MAN CHEST GEOCACHE" along the top! I did have over 70lbs of gold bars for weight usuage but I guess all the kids rob me blind. lol, oh well! Perhaps its time to make a new one and hide it else where.

GRUNT
01-07-2008, 12:32 PM
NO! You call her and tell them to take it back or tell them to take it to ORI (even meet me if in East Valley) and I will take it back out there. I was planning to go to this one with some friends at the end of the month. We made the kids look up(research) and everything! Seriously, if you can get it back I will take it back out there... PLEASE!

Did you or Andy ask the lady why they took it? Idiots... Perhaps stencilling "RETARDS, PLEASE DO NOT TAKE IF NOT YOURS!" :D I am sure they knew no better but dang it...

Can we get it back?

06TJWRANGLER
01-07-2008, 12:36 PM
Yeah I can get back out there, I will have Andy tell her to bring it by her shop whenever. Then I can make some gold bars and take it back to the spot. I think its time for a new one as well. This next one could be the Dead Man's Chest 2, but else where besides White Tanks!

GRUNT
01-07-2008, 01:56 PM
Yes, I know I would know its location but I would let my friend lead in his jeep. Mostly for the kids... I would be willing to go put one out in the FJ area. Can chip in for your effort?

Not to put more on your plate but sticking these around AZ would be cool too! :D Maybe one of the HCR could take one up north, Sedona Rick/Nena could put one in Sedona and then AZcharlie(I think he is south) could put one down around Tucson!

It sounds like a new game, hide and go seek geocaching....

Ok I got some updated news on this one, so I called the lady that has my chest and she said that they dont have it anymore. Im like what? where is it? shes like oh we decided to throw it away since no one claimed it. I have been trying to get a hold of this lady for 2 weeks now and she never answered the phone. So yeah no more dead man's chest since they decided to throw it away. Anyhow I did make up a new chest, but im gonna re hide it since people stumble across that area and think there lost toolboxes. lol, well I should have this chest in its new location by this weekend, I hope. Will post a new thread on this one as soon as I hide it!! :)

Someone needs to go into her garage and "find something". Then throw it away.

What a moron.

Well here are some pics of the new chest, I need to finish the lid on the chest. I been doing this whenever I have time after work. I used all scrap on this box and left it rusted so it would have that old finish to it. I made this chest huge so its akward to carry out plus it weighs around 100-120lbs easy. Im thinkin im gonna bring some quickcrete with me when I go hide it so I can fill it half way with cement. I found a new area for this new chest and its pretty sweet area as well. Well heres some pics of it, im gonna go back to my work and finish it tomorrow maybe hide it on sunday since im not a football nut!!

That one looks really cool . Should fill the tubes with concrete! 1000 lbs should be alot harder to carry away.

somehow I picture someone finding it... having no clue who it belongs to... and blowing it out of the ground with dynamite... leaving it without a scratch.:aagh::aagh::aagh:
