The 73 Jeep manual calls for 80W in the Model 20 transfer case. When you
say 'strange assortment' what exactly was it? (Color, texture, grit,
smell, lumps n' chunks, etc) I had some contamination in my transfer
after I bought it, and had a stinky white/greenish goo in the t-case when
I changed the fluids. That one got flushed repeatedly, and appears goo
these days.

You could call this a new hobby for now, but in a few short years,
outsiders will look at you and try to tell you it's an addiction. Which
of course you will vehemently deny... like the rest of us.

Take care, and keep the rubber down.

Ajax is in the Mineral Mountain area SE of Florence Juction (US 60 east of ApJunc)...NE of Florence. We assemble at the Texaco at F.J. at 8. Should be back to FJ by mid afternoon...depending on how far we decide to go. This is a class 3+ to a class 4 trail.

In 4 Wheel Drive and Sport Utility mag there is an ad for onboard
showers.

Contact:

R&M Specialty Products
P.O. Box 1683
Windsor, CA 95492
(707)838-3869

They show that the complete kit is $259 + S&H.

I have seen one of these on a FJ-80 Landcruiser, It has a
heat exchanger in line with the heater hose, a water pump,
and an adjustable thermostat to get the correct water temp
(and maintain it).

Hope this helps

Subject: National Trails Day Trip

Hi All,

I am leading a night run to the fourth cove at Saquaro Lake on Saturday June 5th. A few AZVJC members expressed interest in coming along. The trail ride is in celebration of National Trails Day. National Trails Day is sponsored by the Ameican Hiking Society as a way to get the public interested in trails --- er hiking trails. But who in the heck cares! Our trails are trails too!

Meet at Butcher Jones Beach Recreation Area at 6:30pm on Saturday, June 5. We'll take off at 7:00pm. WE should be back at Butcher Jones by midnight, barring no problems on the trail. CB channel 4. 10 t-shirts will be given away to the first ones to arrive. I'll also be raffling off a compass which came with the Natl Trails day promo kit. All proceeds from the raffle will go to the ASA4WDC Land Use Fund. Donations will also be accepted.

The trail to the fourth cove is a 3.0 (approx) with steep loose hills which look really really steep and gnarly at night.

No alcoholic beverages on the trail please!

Tricia and I are going to the Jeep Jamboree in Canyon de Chelly June 4,5,6. Is anyone else from this area going? Want to caravan? We are thinking of leaving very early on Thursday 6/3 (with the Sun). On the return we will probably take 2 days to take in some of Northeast AZ that we don't get to on the Jamboree. Even if you aren't up to that early but are going let me know and we can hook up when we get there. We are staying at the Best Western, Canyon de Chelly.

I was wondering,
does anyone have any other suggestions for a friend who has an 89yj, wich is basicly stock with 31x10.5
tires. he is wanting a small lift and possibly remove the rear swaybar. (can this be done on a YJ?)
I know it can be done on an XJ but am not sure about the YJ. I had mentioned to him either a 2in body lift or add-a-leaf's with 11/2 to 2in of lift.
he does not want to go spring over for fear of wandering on road. (does this happen on YJ"s with spring over lifts) I also told him of quick disconnects for the front. I thank all of you for your time.
and I am still trying to find someone with a scanner to post my XJ...
thanks again

Hello Dave

Another option is extened shackles, this works very well and does not
affect your ride - you can get up to 11/2 longer - don't think i'd
do the add a leaf because it makes your rig ride rougher - most people
i,ve talk to haven't been happy with their add a leafs

yes you can remove your rear swaybar - i have quick disconnects on mine,
both front and rear - i went to a hardware store and purchased a pin
the same size as the bolt - right before heading off road the pin is
removed and the track bar is secured up and out of the way

As for the spring over, your friend needs to decide what size tire he
wants to run and then set his jeep up for it - it might look real funny
running 31" with up to 6 inches of lift - i would recommend at least 33"
or 35" for a spring over - a SOA also causes drive line and steering
problems that have to be addressed - bottom line is it's lots a work

i have 11/2" shackle lift, 21/2" spring lift, 2" boddy lift, and just
installed 33" BFG's - there is 26" between the bottom edge of the tub
and the ground - the tires rub a little when my springs flex, still need
another inch, will get that from a shackle inversion in the front and a
buggy leaf in the rear

btw you can also get 4" lifted springs to fit bigger tires (33") but you
will loose some flex and it will be rougher down going down the road

998 From: Troy & Shannon Franks <tsfranks@i...>
Date: Sun May 16, 1999 6:24pm
Subject: Found a new trail

Hi.. My name is Troy...New member in Glendale. I am running the wife's 88 XJ, and my 1969 Wagoneer (down from trails for repairs)

I am a member of the Full Size Jeep club too... So this morning Len Sullivan and I went out scouting trails. We headed west out of the city, and took a nice trail. We hit a few dead ends here and there till we found THE TRAIL!!!!!!! We found it first from the north side... then searched it out to the south. found a nice sand hill climb area and the easy way to get in and out of the area.

What Len and I are talking about is going back on the 19th of June to find out more about this trail. We could not run the thing cuz we think we will need a winch in a spot or two. Class 4 in spots, but with a chicken road that end runs the trail.
The whole trail starts off a dirt road (class 1) all the way to a sand hill area (class 1.5 with lots of smiles) (nothing a stock jeep could not do in 2WD, but tires with bite would help out alot) From the sand pits we head up a wide soft wash (1.5 at most) to a pinch point (full size jeep and Ch@vy p/u truck wide.) With a little guiding we got over a rock that wants to eat the diffs out of the Jeeps (1.5 to 2 at the most) till you get to chicken road it is a nice 2.0 to climb it to end run the trail. (1.0 on the trail.. more like a 1.5 but easy for the most part... it will rock the trucks from front to back and side to side a bit)

Once past chicken trail bypass turnoff it starts getting interesting.. a solid 3.5 to 4.0.... rocks and pinch points and steps and all. Len and I walked the trail on it's .5 to .75 of a mile run, to the point where chicken road crosses the trail. It can be run, AS the CJ type thornbird tracks all the way up the wash show, but it will take spoters and 4 low in crawl to do it. What is past the north end where we scouted is not known at this time, but looked good from where we stopped.

Hey George Andrews, Len said this trail was for you... big tires and a nice lift are the key to this trail. one pinch point will give the larger then CJ size jeeps a workout. that pinch point will give CJ's a work out.. a v notch in the walls of the wash.. looks like good footing as most of the fun stuff is solid rock so those of us who feel froggy can give this stuff a try.

So the plan is this... The meeting place will be at Exit 114 (Miller road) off of I-10 there is a Love's gas station net to a Burger king.... how handy. the trail head starts about 1 mile from this gas station. I guess we should start early to not hit the thing at the hottest part of the day (like Len and I did) say 7 or 8 AM go play on the sand piles a bit then go crawl on the trail.

For those of you with GPS units I marked a few good key points on the trail, the south end of the trail (at the sand pits) is 33 degrees 28.15N / 112Degrees 33.15W the farthest point we got to was 33.29.69N/ 112.34.87W 1325 feet ERROR reading of about 125 feet.

For more info give me a holler

Hi Troy,

The trail sounds great. I'm always interested in finding new and challenging trails. June 19th is probably fine for me. I'd vote for an early start, to avoid as much heat as possible.
