How in the hell did you find that so fast. I've tried the search and went through many posts with nothing.
Thanks

I can now answer my own question. Yes it is passable for a beginner in a stock vehicle.

Passable in a stocker, yes. But it is a LOOOOONG trip, so do NOT go alone the first time, and make sure you have a good spare tire and are okay with using your skid plates.

Joe and I just went up last Sunday and it was great. Snowing at the top.. sure there is lots more snow now. We ran into a couple guys in a CJ and tooled up the back way with them. On the way we ran into a group of Jeepers. One had a AZVJC sticker. As we passed we slowed to say Hello and they told us to take a look at the snowmen they had built. They were mini snowmen on the hood of one of thier Jeeps.. Being that I have seen pics posted of children on cheese grater slides and pictures of Humongous Turds in toilets Im assuming the man and woman snowmen pic will not offend anyone! haha. This was the first time I had been the back way in my Jeep. I had went on a dirt bike the back way years ago and the road was terrible. Its almost grated now! A stock Jeep can make it Im sure. We plan to go up again this Sunday after I get off work.

FWIW: On the topic of TJ's being able to make the "backway" of the trail to crown king... ABSOLUTELY...
I recall reading about Crown King, from a number of the enthusiast magazines of the day, back when the TJ was introduced in the spring of 1996.
As I recall the story(s), the TJ was introduced to the press on the back-way to Crown King, starting at a resort in Cave Creek (or N. Scottsdale) area, heading first to Lake Pleasant, then on up the hill, through the Oro Belle site, and finally ending up in Crown King for lunch. If I recall correctly, the town's merchants and folks there all dressed up in period mining era costumes, complete with a couple of "ladys of the evening", and from what I recall, the press folk had a ball writing thier stories.
I think I also read that they were paired up, two to a vehicle, handed a set of keys for a new TJ, and written instructions similar to poker run instructions, with mileages and points to look for, etc..
Can't recall which mag I read it in, but I seem to recall that over a three week period, there were three trips a week of something like 50 vehicles per trip, for a total of something like 450 vehicle trips and 900-1000 writers who made this trip in bone-stock pre-production TJ's...
Will dig through some of my old mags, and see if I can find one of those old articles, cause one of the mag writers wrote his/her whole storyline about about how absolutely unprecedented and cool it was that Jeep had so much faith in thier new product, that they would simply turn the writers loose with them for a day, over what they termed a mildly moderate -to- mildly difficult trail, depending on optional lines taken...
I also remember reading an ad and some articles, that Polaris did a similar press introduction for one of thier quads, on the same trail. I know it happened after the TJ intro, but don't recall the details of when that occurred... (Not really into quads as much as Jeeps anyway...) I think I recall seeing in one of the bars up there, (before the one on the east side of the street burned to the ground) one of those Polaris ads framed and hanging on a wall...

My last trip to CK (January of 08) took 12 hrs (round trip home, CK, home) fellow Jeeper broke an axle, my son was "pukie the kid", our then Jeep was "built".
My previous trip was in a 1997 or so Ford Ranger Extra-Cab 4x4 on 30x9.50x15's open / open, took 3 hours from the "airdown spot" to CK. We had a cabin rented at the top so we came home the next day...
When I was a "junior" I would ride my 1980 Suzuki DS80 dirt bike (yes 80cc's) from Table Mesa to CK (with a group of friends) and return to Table Mesa, I was 10 years old, we would make the whole trip in a day to be home in time for dinner....
Believe it or not...
