:) Starting
First, you need a container. Anything water resistant, snow resistant, etc (depending on your climate), will do, but geocachers have had good success with plastic buckets, tupperware (or rubbermaid) containers, ammo boxes, or unused sewer pipes (really!). You'll also want to invest in some zip-loc baggies to put the items into in case your container leaks.
Whatever the container, make sure to mark your cache so that someone who doesn't play can figure out what it is. Most folks mark the container with Geocaching.com, the name of the cache, and any contact information they feel is necessary. More info is better than less.
Next, you'll need a logbook and a pen. A small spiral notebook does the trick. Make sure to put a pen in the cache as well! The author always forgets to bring one when searching for a cache.
:)Placing Your Cache
When you reach the location to place your cache, the hardest part (depending on the model of your GPS unit, the terrain, etc), is getting exact coordinates from your GPS unit. It all depends on how visible your cache is, but you'll need to get the coordinates as close as possible to the cache.
Some GPS units have the ability to do averaging, but if yours can't, the best suggestion is to take a waypoint, walk away from the location, then return and take another waypoint. Do this around 7-10 times, then pick the best waypoint (I've done this with a Garmin eTrex on a cache)
Once you have your waypoint, write it in permanent marker on the container, the log book, and make sure you have a copy to bring back with you. Write a few notes in the log book if you like, place it in a zip-loc baggie, and place it in the container. Make sure to secure the container with a rock, etc, to decrease the chance of it blowing, floating, or being carried away.
:rolleyes:These are basic guidelines for the Cach. I will place 1 or 2 saturday and post later that day.:D:D:D:D

Also bring a shovel cause you might need it and plenty of water! As soon as I build the box Saturday and hide it I will be sure to post the info on here around Sunday!!:D

This seems to impy you want the finder to move the cache? That could play havoc on folks going to search for it after it's been moved and before new details are posted.
Typically, the cache is located, log book signed and finder can take something from the cache and leave something else in the cache, and the cache is re-hidden in the same spot so others can come find it too.

You are correct:D This is all new to me so your input is needed.:D Do not move box from location. :) This is a trial run to see if it is gonna work. :)

You should post these up on the geocache web site. Lots of cache's out there already. Geocacheing is a great family fun sport and the web site gives all rules for cacheing. I've been doing it for about a year now and enjoy every moment of it. Good luck to all those who go for the hunt.

I was wanting to keep this for AZVJC members only. I hope it works because it does look like a lot of fun and adventure.

It's really best to find a few caches before hiding any. That way, you'll have a better idea of how the game works.
Also, take time to read the guidelines on the right side of the page at http://www.geocaching.com/seek/
Geocaching is tremendous fun and has taken this Arizona native to many, many places I never even knew existed, but some "standard" practices have developed over the years.

You should do what wburkett suggests, I looked around that site before I hid my cache. It has a lot of good information. :)

There are literally millions of caches around the world. I have a captain I fly with who does them on every overnight. They are hidden in buildings, in forests, deserts, every where.
Some people have even hidden them under water at dive sites.
We found one here in AJ called "I Ron Wood", it was a micro cache hidden in a tree. The cache was the size of a chapstic tube.
Most of the ones I have found have been boring but the hunt and the scenery are why we go out. :)
If you are really a stud you can use a compass and a topo map to find the cache :D
