... a 1969 International Scout 800A. The Front axle is a passenger side drop and it is not a dana 44. Not too sure what it is. Oh and it's SUA if that makes a difference to anyone. The rear on the other hand is a DANA 44. It is about (I say about becase I did the best I could to measure it in my present condition) 50 inches from the backing plate to the backing plate. (is it the backing plate? It's from the back side of the peice of metel behind the drum.) It is 18 3/4 inches from backing plate to carrier housing. (you know that little step up on the axle tube where it goes into the carrier housing?) And it is also SUA. Now the body isn't in very good shape but who knows what people may want. The dash cluster looks great though. I was amazed at how nice the instrament clusters looked. It has a straght 6 that (as I was told) was just rebuilt before this poor thing was parked. It does need a new carb as it had problems the last time it was driven. The front Windshield is cracked and the (removed) top is dented but the top's glass is all in place and not cracked. From what I looked at today, It looks like the Tranny and T-Case should still be in great condition The engin still has oil and it doesn't look contaminated(sp) with anythign. And the Tranny is of course a manual so I couldn't check the fluid in it. I will be headed back down to where it is (yes I am keeping that a secret) on the 7th to take a deeper and closer look and see if I can use the rear axle. IF I can I am going to take it and do what I need to do to get it under my jeep. I do have the SN number so I can try to check it out on line just to see what the tranny and t-case is. So if anyone has anything to bring up, go for it. Any good suggestion are welcome.

The D44 in the 800's are not good ones to have, thin axle tubes, two piece axles and 19 spline alot of the time. Sometimes late 69 you will get the same axle as in the scoutII.
The frt axles are D30 or D27
You want a D44 out of ScoutII

How can I tell the difference? And would I be stupid to Take this and try building the rear axle for my YJ? At this point all I keep seeing is any 44 would be better then my 35c.

go with the ford 8.8 31 spline axle. stromger than the 44 and not very hard to install. I am installing one in my YJ next week and I have an 8.8 for sale if you are interested.

x2 :)
The 8.8 is a good swap, easier to find and can get with disk brakes.
