Having some issues with my Tcase shifting out of 4hi.
It will not shift down to 2wd, but can go from 4hi and up to 4lo just fine.
Now it shifts, and feels like it is fine, and doing it from the linkage looks just fine as well. Checked it against another TJ, and it looks like when in 2hi, the shift lever on the tcase is in the same place.
Anything inside that could cause this? It is weird that it can go 4hi, N, and 4lo no issue, but not back down to 2hi.
I installed a SYE recently so maybe something wasn't set right when I put everything back together? There didn't seem like much linkage interference in there that I touched.

Any thoughts? It really sucks driving on the street in 4hi with a locker in the front, making a tight turn is next to impossible.:o

Did you do the SYE while the tcase was in the Jeep or out?

Check the linkage. I've heard of many problems with them. Depending on what all you've done you may need an extension. Simple place to start looking. :D

In the Jeep. It was in 4hi when we did it I believe, since I had been without a rear driveshaft at the time.

Well it does make the clunk like it shifts out. and the location of the lever changes.

kinda sounds like a shift fork was put in upside down.. or the mode shifter wasn't in the proper place when the case went back together..

before you crack the case agian, check to make sure you linkage isn't upside down.. If it is you'd basically be shifting backwards..

OK, that does make sense. Since it was in 4hi when I reassembled it, I may have put the parts back in on the wrong tooth or something. I will just pull the front shaft for now, and crack the case sometime soon.

Check for clearance at the front of your shifter. It could be hitting there, and not allowing enough travel to engage 2 hi.
