We all watch the news and we've all seen these guys shots all the time...sad day. Ch 3 is my favorite, not that it matters, just really hits home since I watch those guys...at least they were out there livin, some folks never get the opportunities they got. I suppose that is some consilation, I mean they had some of the coolest jobs on Earth as far as I am concerned. God bless thier families tonight.

I've been following this for hours now and I have to say, it's interesting in a way how an event like this can really dampen a persons mood for a number of hours. Sad event for sure.

Very very sad indeed. I wonder if that carjacker will be charged in these deaths?

My condolences to the familes, friends, and co-workers of those that died today doing there job. Any situation like this is a tragedy. I do only wish that the media and Americans in general would seem as concerned and sad when the news shows a 5 second clip about a military copter going down in Iraq killing seven of our men and women. I am not political, but I vividly remember that between Jan 20th 2007 and Feb 2nd 2007 we lost 4 military and 1 civilian helicopters in Iraq. They were shot down killing if I remember 16 people as people on the ground yelled God is Great. It was on the news......for about 10 seconds. Talk about a tragedy.

My condolences to the family, friends and coworkers of the victims.

I think it'd be quite a stretch to try and convict the bad guy with the deaths of the news crews. It was simply an unfortunate accident caused by either pilot error or mechanical malfunction.

It is pretty bad when you get your news from AZVJC forum.
I did not know this had happened until I logged in.

Our prayers are with the families.

A sad day for the families and a sad day for aviation. Good pilots went down today.

I guarantee you they were flying all the way to the ground, a good aviator never gives up and will try to save his bird till the very end :)

According to the news they asked a LEO and they said absolutly yes he can be charged with the 4 deaths.

This is indeed a terrible tragedy. The first time since July 5, 1991 that a newscopter has crashed. Two this time. My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims friends and families.

This is very sad. They were well known among residents who have watched the news or listened to rush hour radio. I'm sure their families are in shock and my heart goes out to them. I hope the News stations take good care of their families with death benefits.

I still think this will be a stretch. I can see a police helicopter that's trying to track/apprehend the subject, but a new helicopter whose just trying to get the shot for TV? Regardless, this is very sad and I don't want to throw this into an off topic debate. :(

Amber, Bruce Hapner was NOT the pilot of news copter 3. His name was Scott Bowerbank. God Bless them all!:(

13-1105. First degree murder; classification

A. A person commits first degree murder if:

2. Acting either alone or with one or more other persons the person commits or attempts to ..................or unlawful flight from a pursuing law enforcement vehicle under section 28-622.01 and in the course of and in furtherance of the offense or immediate flight from the offense, the person or another person causes the death of any person.

It will be interesting litigation. Because our society and the media feel there is a "need to know", therefore they "had" to cover the story and thereby the deaths were caused by the bad guy...............

That is what I was thinking. If he has a good attorney it is gonna be a battle to get the charges to stick. I figure it will plead out well before though.
This was an absolute tradegy. It was bound to happen sooner or later unfortunately it happened now. Currious if the FFA or NTSB are going to try and regulate how the news channels fly in such cases. I would bet they will seeing as it has actually happened now.

Its pretty sad whenever a crash happens in aviation, this was felt harder than some I think because everyone knew these people. I also like ch 3, they are my favorite news channel in the valley. However, the fact of the matter is that over 70% of crashes are pilot error, I wonder if they'll ever have a cause or know what happend?

(It was said by witnesses that the ch 15 chopper appeared to have lost control and veered into the ch 3 chopper)

if you watch this video from the news 15 copter twards the end it appears that the copter swerved back and forth and then crashed without much notice to the pilot.

Warning disturbing video

I think there was a ton of misinformation right after the crash - as is the case with any tragedy. Ben came home from work at the weapons range and the news they had gotten was that it was Bruce....I was wound up doing house stuff all day and didn't even know about it until Ben came home. Thank you so much for correcting me. Doh!

It is very sad when they happen - crash and rescue fire fighting is my trained job in the Army Ntl Guard - and I am relieved that business is NOT good. Don't want to be busy in that kind of job field because it means death or serious injury. This is still very sad. Did we find out the cause yet?

In a report I heard on the way back home from Gallup last night.... Channel 3 was hovering and channel 15 made connection with but is still a excalated guess at most. They are mostly relying on eye witness testimony at this point. This will likely be under investigation for the next month or more.
