Hello All.
Unfortunately there may be a change of plans for me being able to make it up there. Of the three Tucson members I think only one of us would be able to make it. One Jeep has been temporarily disabled and the other (person, not Jeep) has a slight schedule conflict due to Mother's Day weekend. I am available but was looking to convoy up. I may know more later in the week but it does not look promising. So don't worry about the start time. If things turn out that I can make it I will be able to make it there by 9am, so don;t chnge plans on my account.
I will know more later in the week.
Later,
Jeffrey

Scott,
Thanks for the excellent trip report. I'm sure that the 5/8 gang will be
disapointed to hear about the good trail repair status, although, if you
don't take the bypasses, there will be plenty of challenges for an average
rig. The Geo sure did give us some entertainment value. We all had a good
time and I want to thank you again for leading the group.

Jim (Yucca)...I know you were looking for a CJ 8...but I've always liked the CJ 6's, since they have the longer wheel base, but not the rear overhang of an '8'. CJ 6's are pretty rare. This apparently was originally a Govm't vehicle (military?) that came from El Paso.

Hi Bryan,
Not sure I can tell you which Jeep to bring, better ask your Dad before you
take the Wrangler. And I'm not really sure where it is, but I'd check the
garage first. ;-)
Seriously, for most trails up to Class 3, either can make it fine. Look at
our web site or mine for trail ratings and be sure you understand how a trail
is rated before you attempt it. Beyond Class 3 you need more experience and
you start to need modifications, starting with real off road tires, a little
lift, skid plates. If in doubt about a trail, this is the place to ask.
Other basic equipment includes a CB, tow hooks, snatch strap, and an hi-lift
jack.
The best way to get experience is to go with a group like us! Next trip is
Saturday to Crown King.

Looks like I will be the only Jeep heading up from Tucson. If anybody would

not convenient for anyone, meeting up on Bell Road would be nice also. I

Hi Jeff. There's a good chance I won't be making the Crown King run after all. Anyway, I posted a note to the group to see if someone would meet you at the Exxon on Bell, just east of I-17, just in case I can't make it. The post hasn't appeared yet, so I'm sending this again to the group.
FWIW, the Exxon is a good place to gas up, in any event, for those that will need to.

Well...let's toss this out and see what the consensus is:
Where: West of the entrance to Lake Pleasant Regional Park...there's a
flatspot along the side of the dirt road...before the turn off for Crown
King.
When: 9am
Directions: Take I-17 north to the Carefree Rd exit...go west on Carefree
Rd. This road will dead end at a "T" intersection w/ Lake Pleasant Rd
(SR74). Go right at the "T". Follow this past the dam (which will be on
the right/north side of the road)...keep going and after the dam, on the
right will be the main access road to the Lake Pleasant Recreation Area
(signed). Take this for a ways (it's paved), and keep an eye out for the
park entrance. The road will "T", and the entrance will be to the
right...but turn left instead. Up the road a short way will be a wide
flat spot for airing down and disconnecting.
How's this sound??
Also...anyone form the Tucson chapter making this one? If so, we could
shift the starting time a little to accommodate the long trip.

Correct. This would be class 3+ to class 4, depending on how far we go. I'm not sure if there are bypasses, since I hadn't done Ajax before...but it looks very similar to Woodpecker, so I wouldn't advise it for a stock vehicle.

Hi Bryan,
Not sure I can tell you which Jeep to bring, better ask your Dad before you
take the Wrangler.
