Ok so I finely got my pics up of my YJunk... Check out what Ive been doing!!!

This is a before picture of the YJunk... many plans are being made at this point... It was purchesd with an 8.8 rear and a 30 front with a cable possi lock... (dean come pick em up and pay me) :) Other features included were the 4 point bucket seats and the (bugger welded) roll cage already installed. The rear of the suspension was stiff as a board and the decision was made to link it front and rear with 1 ton axles.

12273

An 87 Ford Dana 60 was bought from 1toughxj for 1G and I imediatly started hacking away on it... I decided to go with 14" KING 2.0 air shocks for the front to keep everything simplified for the rear 14bolt there are 16" King 2.0 air shocks. I just got them in the mail today and cant wait to see them in action!!!

12275

While waiting for my parts I thought that it would be a great idea to try out Daniels new tube bender!:D

12276

This is what we created...

12277

I wanted to go with the front stinger to add some girth to the front end also I have seen them work in action and have kept people from rolling all the way over. I have also seen them stand a Jeep straight up... and I mean vertical... Yes these stingers if bilt right will also keep you from rolling end over end if such an angle would cause... oh yea I think it also looks cool!

here is another look...

As for the rear I wanted a tire carrier that alot of dont people have. I was looking for functional yet burley and able to take a whipping and say "thank you sir may I have another?" this is what we came up... with thanks to PS for the Idea...:D
12279
12280
If for some reason you dont read and never get out this is how it works...basicly the Tire carrier acts also as a rear stinger... the bottem is hinged so that I can drop the tire carrier down and add/remove the Tire with out breaking back. Diparture angle was a major factor on this one and we dont feel that it will be an issue especialy after we stretch the wheel base... Even if it does that steel is thick and they should just slide right accross any surface they come in contact with! We also saved some room for a spare 40" or 42" inch if needed! ;) I made the lock come through the center of the carrier in stead of how you may have seen them before from PS they have arms that come from bothe sides of the stinger that attach to each rear fender. I wasnt a big fan of that. Hear is a closer look at the attachment.
12281
And this is a shot of the whole rig with front and rear stinger/carrier

Now for the really fun stuff!!!
its time to pull those whimpy axles and add gnarley ones!!! Again with the shorter driver side of the newer Dana 60 we are going with King 2.0's to simplify the suspension... No I probebley wont be taking any more long rediculose drives to Crown King any more with this set up but... oh freakin well! Thats not what this build is for anyway!!!

Poof!!! Axles are gone!
12283

For now the ride height is going to be 31" to the rocker pannel at least until I get done with the Triangular 4 link geometry.. the air shocks will also beable to make that fluctuate!

As for the rear suspension... we are going to be chopping the frame and reboxing it in as you can see in this pic our typical wrangler frame as that axle elevation curve... (If you will?) in order to stretch the wheel base and alow for thoes gnarley 16" shocks to travel we must cut out the downward side of the curve toward the bumper right at the peak of its aspect... Did you get all of that? here is a Pic so I can see what I am talking about!
12284
You can almost see a faint line that we scribed to be the cut off point.
Well thats all for now stay tuned for the frame modification and link install.

Our date is aimed at SEPTEMBER 1 2007 to be on the trail!!!

Post your pictures to photobucket and then copy the link over. Do preview post to make sure they display. Pictures from MSN Groups can't display over here.

You can edit all of your post above after you get your pics on Photobucket.

This is what works for me.
Goto the website: http://tinypic.com/

Click on the Browse button

Browse to the picture location on your local hard drive (or network for that matter)

Click on the bottom Host It

Wait a few seconds while your picture loads to Tinypic.com

Once its done uploading, you'll see a section labeled Successfully Hosted - towards the bottom.

Below here are 4 line items

Cut/Past the line item marked img (left click, then right click and select copy).

Then you can past the link into your post like I did below.

Once you do this 2 or 3 times, it should only take your 30 seconds from start to finsih to post a picture.

Someone told me about this site over a year ago and just wanted to share the wealth.

Ya you will get to see that but I think the interesting part will be seeing the links all come together and work properly... I hope!!! It is one thing to bolt something to your rig prefabed its another type of love to actualy stand back and say "ya built that!" or blame it on someone else how ever the outcome...;)

Ok so I finely got my pics up of my YJunk...

YJunk what... there's only one mang and he's running your tires!! (had to air them down to 8psi to get them to fit in the tub, but they fit and the door shuts - if just barely)

I'm gonna do my best to make you sorry you sold them, but with the build your describing I have a feeling its going to be a rough time.

It looks good bud get er done and lets hit the trail... I'll do my best to keep up!!

I know that Jeep too, I drove it on occasion. If it still has the MPI 4.2l w/ the 727 auto, be easy while running it around the block on pavement. Unless its been changed, the reversed manual shift valve body would kick like a mule while under power and shifting into second, I had seen that trans go in the shop twice with tailshaft issues. Its a nice set up, just go easy with the big tires when on pavement. The previous owner put some time into the cage and dash/gauges. Its a nice rig and a great head start.

BTW; I liked the other avatar. the one with the shout out to me

I finaly found some time and money to get back into the shop.
Now it's time to start bringing it all together.
14668

I decided to send back the rear 16" and front 14" 2.0 King shocks and go with the bigger and beefier Fox 2.5. After recieving the 2.5's it was obvious right away that the 2.0 stands at no comparison to the 2.5 !
After mounting the beadlocks and recieving the new shock upgrade it was time to start bending some tube and getting some beads laid down.
If you look back on page 1 or 2 Geno posted up some pics from the previous owner. In them you can see the fabricated basket that was used to carry parts/cooler/toolbox ext. in the rear of the tub as you can see I got rid of that chit so I could get some serious work done! The gas tank will also be moved from its curent location (unknown why it was put there in the first place) to a more space conserving location. The said basket is still intact and may be of some use to someone else. Hint...Hint...
14669

Gussets will be added eventully in predetermined locations for added support to the hoops. If you look closely you can also see where Danial and I extended the frame location to allow full travel of the axle housing... and yes there will be a disk break conversion done after I fund the full hydro steering. :o
14670

Here is the first shot of the RA that I went with. For shock hoop locations we were forced to mount the hiems to the inside of the frame as opposed to outside the frame as in the front will be set up... not a huge deal it will just allow for more flex in the rear. All in all I believe that this set up will work just fine!!!
14671

This is the mounting of the front lower mount. (obviously) Because of the shorter size of my driver side Dana 60 we were also forced to mount the shocks to the top of the RA weld on brackets. This was taken into account when we built the front hoops to allow 7" of up and down travel on all shocks to allow equal travel through out.
14672

It is a little hard to see but the hoop fits perfectly under the hood while shut. (approx one finger width) They were built with the hood up and while hood clearence was not taken into consideration this perfect clearence was my pure luck of the fab gods.
14673

Here is a nice look at the left and right sides. I belive the housing will be moved forward another inch to fit the RA arm on to the frame properley. Body mounts will be sacrificed aswell inorder to make this posiable.
14674
14675

Here is a nice level plane across the two hoops. There will be a support mounted between the two hoops for protection of the engine on potential roll over and to increase streangth of the hoops. This was taken just before we realized we had not put the hood down yet... Thank you fab gods!!!
14676

One thing, do not know if you have taken into consideration yet the shock clearance between frame and shock. You might be notching the frame for the shock under full flex. :D
