They took it last night while I was sleeping. I knew I should've never moved here. The funny part is, I've been expieriencing DW on the freeways lately, so I hope a wheel fell off on those Bastages!
California Lic#5vub331, black 2001 Wrangler Sahara with brand new swing out carrier on the rear.
The hardtop has a sticker above the rear window that says
"DAILY DRIVER IF I ROLL IT I'M SCREWED".
If anyone happens to be driving through Mexico this weekend, look around for it please.

At least the guard has vehicle barriers in all of the regular vehicle crossing areas now.
Is your hardtop black as well? Heavy tint or normal? Do you have a VJC sticker on it? (things that will distinguish your jeep) Any really noticable dents or dings?
I'm really sorry to hear that happened to you.

That's why I mentioned the hard top. It's an easy re-sale item. It is black as well, with heavy tint.
Does anyone know about this "Autonation Theft Protection Program" that I purchased with my Jeep? It's supposed to pay for monies not covered by my insurance company, as well as a down payment on a new vehicle. Has anyone on this site expierianced this? Are there things I should know in general about where to go from here?
I appreciate any heelp I can get.

Should have stayed in AZ............where the chances of it getting stolen are even greater! Sorry to hear about your loss. Hope the wheel falls off, they roll it, get ejected, and run over by an 18 wheeler.......at the knees!!!

Funny, I was thinking exactly that! :D
The insurance agent said in 10 years she's never seen one not recovered. She added that it may be in pieces or damaged, but that it should get recovered.
I think nobody has the right to drive MY Jeep! And if they find it, I want a name and address of the loser who won't get a job and buy his own!

I've seriously been thinking about adding somthing like this (http://www.globaltrackinggroup.com/products_ubi4000.cfm) to my jeep! $400 gps and $17 a month to track!
Installed a high def ~low light color camera ($75 @ WalMart) on the corner of the house. Have it set up to record a 7 day loop!
My jeep has more "bolt on stuff" than yours! Sombody might want my stuff!! They will get caught!!

Very important to put a kill switch, lojack or some sort of deterrent on a jeep.....perhaps even one of those taser alarms that shocks you if you get within the set parameters of the car's space.....:D
I saw several jeeps today matching your description, but none with Cali plates. :(

Sorry for your loss. Did it have a chip in the keys? I will keep an eye out for it. It would be nice if someone was caught for doing this. They find vehicles but no one ever gets caught. Please respond to computer chip question.

Sorry to hear about your loss...
Did you have an alarm system or anything on the jeep
to deter someone from stealing it?
I hope they find it for you... and the put the sob's
that stole it in jail... I know... wishful thinking.

I saw something on TV about parents installing little cameras in the cars to keep eye on teenager driver. If someone installed a hidden camera in the jeeps and had it positioned so you could see landscape,so it would be possible to recognize where the jeep was traveling what would be the chances of finding the jeep and the guy who stole it?
Could you imagine a swarm of jeeps coming down on the guy driving a stolen jeep?

****UPDATE****
Wierd stuff....So I have a small and very unsuccessful side buisness, and I only get calls from solicitors on that phone. I go up to my bedroom and check the message on it, and it's "David" who says "ummmm.....there's this black Jeep in an empty lot infront of my house, and, it looks like it's stolen. I found this buisness card in it, so I'd thought I'd call and let you know your Jeep is here. My phone number is XXX-X....".
So I call the guy, and he says "yea this happens about once a month, I have an empty lot infront of my house and they dump stolen cars there all the time."
So he tried to report it to LAPD (Yea, all the way to LA!) but they just gave him the run-around. So I did some checking, and Riverside where the report was taken said call the "Gardina" PD, then the Gardina PD had me call LA, which was some giant call center and they transferred me to a precinct that had jurisdiction, which was LAPD for some reason.
Now the DOT will pick it up, and either the Police will call me or my Insurance Company will to let me know the status.
The story is much longer than that I assure you, and it will continue for awhile I would imagine.
BTW, the hard top, and swing out carrier are gone, as well as the front bumper (Fabtech, no biggie). But the rear swingout is about two months old. I bought it on Ebay, had it painted and installed it to the tune of about $800 total.
I just hope they didn't beat it too much, that's my job!

Nope, no detterent system at all, except locked doors and rolled up windows. I would like to do the "key kill switch" that a friend has done to all of his trucks. It helped him in atleast one attempt in stealing one of his trucks. The punks still got his stereo though.

I am glad you got it back! You can patch her up and go from there. Will your insurance cover the stolen equipment?
*NOTE TO MEMBERS- I talked to my insurance agent. He advised me that my add-ons would not be covered unless I notified them on their respective installation. I do so and my rate went up 3 dollars a month, but now I am covered for my winch, lift, tire carrier, GPS, KCs, tuffy, etc.... This may not work for all because my jeep(not a trailer queen) is not my daily driver.
I think I would rather have my 2005 pickup stolen before my jeep!!!!! Yeah, I know I would...

It is now at a towing company by the LA police department, stripped, with the ignition torn out. I have to talk to the adjuster tommorrow (Allstate), but I think they (Allstate) should transfer it to one of thier preferred repair shops, have it looked over for safety reasons, replace the missing items, and fix it for me.
Would I be out of line to tell them that is the way I want it handled?
Will they get it released from the Police Department?

Great news! I would get the Jeep and replace components with after market stuff. Factory stuff is a little pricey and you can do aftermarket for around same price. Good to hear and good luck . You must have some good carma.

At least you are getting the Jeep back. I'm scheduled to get my alarm, with a pager installed tomorrow. I had a starter disabler on the XJ and I'm pretty sure that was the only reason the car was still there the day my stereo was taken.
Good deal on finding it! Should not have left Preskett...
I sure feel safer around here than when I have to go to PHX area.
Hope not too much done bad to it! But it proves Low Jack works where they have it, safer for them to drop it for a few cool down days.
What we NEED is for the LAW to stop and check all ID and Registration for every vehicle going OUT of US to Mexico! DUH, way too easy!

This is great advice, a little too late. My insurance said $1000 worth of add ons is covered, but my home insurance will cover what was in the cab. I had my ash tray and "dash hole" filled with 1980 "s" Sacajewea dollars, so that's good anyway.
I wanted to get rid of the chrome step bars and plastic Sahara body armor (laugh) that came with it when I bought it and get rock sliders, so if I just claim the rear bumper and chrome steps, that's over $1000. Of course, I do have a lengthy list compiled already. I just wonder if they need a reciept for it all since I bought a lot of it for cash from friends.
By Californeea law, I get $10 a day for a rental car even though I didn't have rental insurance. And they did say towing from the impound lot to my choice of repair shops is covered, but I still have to go to the LAPD station that recovered it to release it from the tow company, then go to the tow company to release it to my Insurance company.
I learned a big lesson this week. Do everything in my power to protect my Jeep. If these leaches want your automobile bad enough, they'll will get it. And it can happen to anyone anywhere. But in the future if they want mine I want them to work HARD for it like I did.
Also, always put up with the Rooster next door to you. When he's cackling at 3 am, it's probably because someone woke him up while stealing your Jeep!

I am just glad you got it back Bob... Do you have a garage or side yard to put it in? One thing I do also is if it is sitting a while I remove the short wire on the distributor, or at least unplug one end. Thieves are always in a hurry and wont take the time to look under the hood for what is wrong! Dumb jack-arses!!!!!!! Ha!

Good news that you'll be getting your Jeep back.
Is this your tire carrier or front bumper for sale on Craigslist? They say it's only 2 months old.

So do they drive the vehicles all the way to LA, or do they stick 'em in a trailer?

I imagine they drove mine to a shop, stripped it, then had one of the junior losers to drop it off. They didn't beat it, but I did show the adjuster where it looks like they hit a curb and there was a mark on the tire and wheel. But everybody said it was a clean job, and I agree. I just had it detailed and it was clean when I saw it.
List of items they did not steal:
1. Brand new battery. Not a red top or anything, just brand new.
2. Chrome step bars. I was going to get rid of them and get sliders, so...bummer.
3. Front bumper. (Fabtech....nuff said)
4. Winch plate. Attached to the Fabtech...nuff said.
5. Any of my papers in my glove box or center councel.
5. Fast Track transponder. It's traceable if you travel the toll roads here.
6. Front seats. Needed them to dump the Jeep I guess.
7. Lottery ticket in the glove box. I have not checked it yet. It may be a winner.
8. 9MM. I keep that with me.
I guess I get it back in about two weeks. Can't wait to see the replacement rear bumper. I'm wondering if they contacted tuffdesigns on Ebay to replace it, or if they will do something comparable. I didn't like the welds on it anyway.

The above message was left on 8-4-07 I got it back yesterday which was 9-14-07.
WOW was I nieve! 6 weeks! What cluster! It looks nice though. Rear bumper is okay I guess, but no can holders and no antenna mount. I'll see if I can rig something on. There is now an extra interior light on the new cap, they washed all the interior fabrics, the doors and cap were painted impeccably and it seams to ride nicer, although I haven't done much freeway driving, the front end seams tighter. I will be going back to the 33's probably in the next week so I have to get some security.
Installed my Sirius radio in it, bought a "Club" and on Monday I will try to get it to "Custom Motor Sports" and have them install a kill switch of some sort.
