I have 18ftx83in wide flatbed carhauler with dovetail. It is all channel construction with wood deck, and it weighs almost 2500lbs. Most car haulers are rated for 7000lbs, but they weigh 2500 so you could haul 4500lbs.

I have a 20' with very slight dove and ramps to boot. Rated for 10,000 gvw. Picked up new in town for $4000.00 out the door. I can't remember the name of the place right now but I'll look it up later if you'ld like. It has the wood slats throughout and has been an excellent trailer. I know it handles all the weight with no issues as I loaded it to the max. They even put brakes on the tandem axle for me at no additional cost. :D

My 18' X 85" with wood deck rated 7000# with brakes weighs
a little over 2000# with tool box empty. Jeep and trailer weigh around 6000# loaded up.

I will soon be in the market for a trailer. Please let me know if you run across the name of where you got yours.

Most 16-20 ft open dual axle car-haulers weigh in the range of 1700-2400, depending on materials selected for decking, framework, axles chosen, etc.

If you're looking at ONLY toing lighet weight stuff lke your 53 Willy's, all you need is a light duty tandem. I'd suggest an 18 footer with 3500 lb axles, which should weigh in at approx 1900 lbs with a spare tire, ramps, etc.

If you believe you will be loading anything weighing over 5000 lbs, then I would suggest you upgrade to medium duty 4-5K axles, and a 20-24 ft deck, which should come with increased frame thickness, heavier axles, etc. and will likely weigh as much as 2500 or a more, again depending on options.

Good Luck...:) ;)
