Just want to say I had a great time on the Cherry Creek Trail and am looking forward to more trips up north as the temperatures start to climb!

I am planning a trip to Dupont Cabin in July. Will let the group know more as we get closer to July.

Leah: Is Charouleau Gap a good warm weather trail?

If all works well, I'll be on the Woodpecker Trail this weekend.

See ya!

I mentioned the bird tracks we saw on the Cherry Creek Trail to Steve (significant other who is currently on assignment in Seattle). He said they were probably wild turkey tracks. Wild turkeys can weigh upwards of 40-lbs. Since the tracks we saw were created when the road was wet, it would be logical to assume that a 40-lb bird could leave a pretty deep track.

The emu theory sounded pretty good too!

Linda,
I have been through the Gap in the middle of summer and in
heavy blowing snow. the Gap would be a great WARM weather
run! In hot weather, it is very nice as a night run!
We did a night run last July, all I can is WOW! the
lighting in the distance and the trail after a fresh rain...
That run was voted as best run of 1998 by the TRRs.
Hope that helps.

Sound like a trip the AZVJC needs to do sometime later this year.

I've been having trouble posting to the List Server, so I'm sending this note from the web page. Hope it makes it.

The trail is actually upper Woodpecker. I had been confusing Ajax Trail w/ Woodpecker. It's a great trail...class 4. As to tire size, I've done it w/ 32's and a 3" lift (TJ), but Linda (w/ 31's and a 4.5 inch lift has done this before. I'd think that at least a l/s rear would be needed.

As to starting time, we're set for 8:30 at Florence Junction Texaco. Let me know if you need directions.

Those are brand name parts from Turbo City (TC):

RockIts: Rocker panel bars that are strong enough to be jacked with a HiLift jack and provide a step up. Similar to the tubes that you see on the sides of Jeeps but much stronger. They bolt to the frame but don't reduce clearance and haven't bent yet when you hit them hard.

AirTube: A legal way to mount a K&N air filter to your throttle body.

I too have had some trouble trying to post messages.
I did the Coke Ovens run, so I remember the Texaco
very well. My Jeep has about 4" of lift, 33's and locker
in rear, so I think I can do this. I guess what I'm trying
to get at is should one expect some body damage? I know
I'm asking these questions for a lot of people who don't want
to ask.

Hi Leah,
Unless you do something really silly or try some of the interesting alternate routes I doubt you suffer any body damage. I almost lost the rear bumper off my ZJ the last time I was on the trail, but I was going through an alternate that was a little tight.

I hope to be able to make the run. I have irrigation scheduled and if this week keeps going like it has, it'll probably be scheduled for mid-day Saturday!

Have fun!

All,

I asked e-groups about the problem we've been having with a few posts not
getting sent, or getting sent late. Here is their response. If you keep having

BTW, I've had a couple of other unrelated e-mail problems over the last couple

May would actualy be a good time to go. It'll be getting hot here in the
Valley, and a cool trip up the the Bradshaws would be perfect. Course,
we could do it sooner and also do it in May.

OK, I'll bite. How about the Gap? or Reddington Loop?
I would not recomend stock vehicles for these two runs.
If there are people with stock Jeeps wanting to do some
Tucson trails we can try others we have enough!
Rice Peak would be a good one too.

Hi Melinda,

I'll have to check on the April 10th date when I get home
tonight. If my club does not have anything scheduled
that would be great! And we'll shoot for then.
If most people want to overnight it, it would probably be a
primitive site, I dont know what's all available for camping.
although Catalina State Park has nice camping, we probably
need some reservations for a big group. As soon as I send
this off to ya I will make some contacts.

Take care, Leah 94YJ

What is the process for pics. I really enjoy seeing them, and I believe others
do as well.

I don't think there is any anti-picture policy at e-groups. There are size
limitations. Messages larger than 500K are not allowed, and (supposedly)
messages over 100K are moderated (by me) but I didn't get a message to
moderate that last one, which was around 300K.

I recommend if you want to send attachments over 100K you send them to me and
I can upload them to my web site. And only send one attachment with any post.

Some e-mail systems can't handle large attachments or certain file formats, or
multiple attachments. AOL for example cannot handle multiple attachments. I
didn't have a problem with these pictures.

A May Crown King trip sounds good. How about Saturday, May 8? Meet at 9 AM at
the trailhead. I'll post directions to the trailhead shortly.

The whole trip took me 11 hours last time, which includes time to get to the
trailhead from the East Valley, time to hang out at the Saloon and assuming a
trip back down I-17.

There is good camping near Crown King for anyone who would like an
overnighter.

For those of you who haven't been, this is a Class 3 trip. Stock Jeeps can do
it, but it is challenging and fun and scenic. There are a couple of more
difficult spots that have bypasses.

I'm up for a trip South too, before it gets too hot! How about mid April, say
the 10th or 17th. We have the Coves Clean-Up on the 24th.

For those of you who had trouble getting the pictures via e-mail, I have
uploaded them to my web site. Go here:

http://members.aol.com/Revolvr/az_backcountry_jeep.htm

Find the "Log Corral Road" menu item, select it and you will go to a
description of the trail with a couple of pictures. Click on the link that
says "Click here for more pictures".

I didn't create thumbnails so it takes a couple of minutes to load. Anyone
know how to batch process a bunch of files to create thumbnails?

Anyway, right click to view and download each full size images.

I'm up for that, but I can't do the 10th. 17th works, though.
