I just thought I'd check with the group again before I go "public" with my

Gambler-style aluminum wheels. These are the wheels from the TJ 30"

sell the set mounted and balanced for $460 (VJC price). Alternatively, I
already have a couple of people interested in just the tires, so if you'd

I checked the online resources of the Az Republic, but they only had a

prepped for a B&B operation, the southernmost one had windows and

Tom,
Thanks for your info on the Coke(Charcoal) Ovens. Since there's no coal
in the area, but likely was a good supply of wood in the Gila Valley,
your info makes sence.
Glad your adventure turned out ok. It's always a good idea to bring
extra supplies...and makes for good story telling later :)
Hope to see you on the trails some time.

Subject: Flat Tire Canyon
Hi All,
There were 3 AZVJC members out on the Flat Tire Canyon trail on Saturday. 7 vehicles total. The trip was pretty uneventful, but we only made it about 3/4-mile further than I made it at the Jamboree! The trail goes back at least another 2 miles -- and I have no idea what's back there. Time was the factor on this trip. We wanted to get out of there and back on pavement before dark.
After some converstion on the trail I learned that the trail doesn't dead end (just as I thought!) but makes a loop. The entire loop trail would rate about 3-3+. There is an alternate route out that I guessed at which also turned out to be true. If you are not familiar with the Flat Tire Canyon trail it is kind of hard to explain its exact location. It is on the Mineral Mountain USGS topo map north of Martinez Canyon off FR4. The trail is mostly rocky wash with a several interesting obstacles. These obstacles get worse the further back you get. The trail also gets extremely brushy.
Anyway, we have already decided to plan an overnighter for this trail sometime this year. I'll you know when a date has been picked.
BTW: Right now I can say that full-size trucks (J10s, J20s, Wangoneers) should not have any trouble with this trail. We had a Suburban out on the trail. Though it was a little tight in places, the driver had no trouble on the trail.

Under the drivers door (written upside down) of a jeep that looked like
it just got home off the trail "If you can read this please help flip me
over". (one of my fave)
Stupidest thing....A Jeep Safari lowered to about 6 inches, low profile
tires, and all that crap.....what a waste

I read an earlier description that you had posted of this trail and it's
location. I believe it's the same trail that Dan and I did a number of
weeks ago. It goes to the base of Ajax Mountain, to a tank. I believe
that the loop back trail is one we were also on, which parallels Flat
Tire on the other side of a ridge to the west. This alternate trail
actually goes through the very upper reaches of Martinez Canyon. There's
a really great camping site up on the saddle, that I believes connects
the two trails. From this point, you can see for miles to the west, and
have a great view of Ajax Mountain, as well as down to the last portions
of Flat Tire.
I'm definately up for an overnight. Let me know.

Yep! that's the trail. Steve and I scouted it 3 years ago but never had the
opportunity to make it back there. I'd like to check out the loop plus the
alternate back to FR4.
I hear that there a couple of 8-ft waterfalls standing in the way of making
the Martinez Canyon trail a thru-trail. This is what I wanted in the first
place and was working with the BLM to make happen. The existing Martinez
trail was blazed with only one purpose in mind -- to open a new tough trail
for the ASA4WDC Jamboree. It was listed in the registration before the trail
was opened. Long story, but it has left us with a PR problem with the BLM
which will probably make opening a thru-trail just a dream.
BTW: Loran (red Sammy) saw a 5-ft (approx) rattlesnake on the trail. I guess
the snakes are coming out of hibernation!
Are you still planning on Cherry Creek on March 20?

Tom,
Thanks for your info on the Coke(Charcoal) Ovens. Since there's no coal
in the area, but likely was a good supply of wood in the Gila Valley,
your info makes sence.
Glad your adventure turned out ok. It's always a good idea to bring
extra supplies...and makes for good story telling later :)
Hope to see you on the trails some time.

Hello everyone,
I am one of the new members here. I am looking for a front axle
housing for my 1970 cj5. I just bought it in Jan. The front end shop said it was heavily abused, and ended up twisting the axle. I may try putting alignment wedges on it and see what happens. Jay

I was told at one time that the coke ovens had something to do with copper.
I can't remember who told me.I thought I'd just mention it.

Subject: What I saw
I saw these a few days ago and thought they kicked butt. A bumper
sticker on a jeep. "You would not uderstand its a jeep thing"
