So after coming home from my first day of work on Thursday, I stop off at the local Sonic for some free root beer floats (scored two of them) and a quick bite to eat. I get home, eat and finish my last float and about 15 minutes later, I start to get all itchy and notice hives popping up all over the place. I figure maybe it was the root beer they use. It finally passed a few hours later and I was finally able to get some sleep.
The next night I came home from a quick round trip and no sooner then I change and start to lounge, they pop back up, this time worse then the night before. I freak out some since I had to work on Saturday and I eventually got to sleep around 4:30am. I was worried though as it seems every night for the past two I got them and didn't want to be stuck out on the road on my first overnight trip in months developing hives, especally since I was starting to get them about 10pm-11pm the last two nights.
Well Saturday comes and after waking up, I notice a little bit around my hands but they subsided and I was fine. I laid over in San Antonio with no problems. I figured it was a food allergy that finally cleared my system but after getting home this evening around midnight, they started right up again. Now I'm covered all over sans my face, even my neck this time is covered and I can't figure out what the hell is causing this.
My cats are fine as I first thought it was fleas and there are no black specks on either of them and no continuous scratching.
Obviously there is an issue inside my apartment as when laying in bed it almost feels like I'm being bombarded by a bunch of little bugs or creepy crawlies but when I scratch I don't kill anything and I just went through my light colored blanket and can't find anything other then lint balls. Plus the one leg, that is in contact with the couch when I lay on it, seems to be worse for wear too with more hives on the outer of that leg then the other leg.
The place was vaccummed about a week and a 1/2 ago and will be done again tomorrow. Same with the furniture and my bedding will be washed again I guess.
I have owned cats for years so I can't see how out of the blue I would be allergic to them.
Does anyone have any sort of idea. I did find what looked like a flea carcass but again, I don't have these little guys jumping around my house anywhere or on any of the cats.
I'm at a loss.... and wide awake as I can't sleep with my body acting like it is... :(

Hives are commonly stress related. Sometimes they can be a result of a certain medication. I get them if I have perkoset...but then again, I'm so allergic to it that I have a "martin short effect" - almost like on pure luck....no bueno at all....
But in your circumstance you are going back to work after being off work...have you been under a severe amount of stress that you have otherwise not had in the past few months?

Have you ruled out a change in laundry detergent?

Oh, yeah, I forgot - I get them from using Tide powder detergent because its too harsh and my skin is pretty sensitive....that could be a cause as well....
A food allergy could do that, as well.......

Detergent isn't an issue, same one I used for the last few months.
I can understand the stress thing but why not get it while on the road and only at home? I really don't feel stressed out.
I am beginning to think bed bugs for some screwed up reason. I can see that out of the blue but wouldn't understand how I would have gotten them.
Ugh... I'm so tired.

You know, now looking at the pics, they really do not look like the bites I have.
On top of that those suckers are pretty large and I haven't seen any evidence of them on the couch or the air mattress I use.

I condur with getting a doctors opinion. Sounds like you have either developed a new allergy or something new is in your house.
You have not determinded what is causing the rash but does appear to be something in your house.
The normal progression of reaction to an allergy is the reaction is more sever with each exposure.
Until you find out what it is you need to be treated by a doctor becase if it progresses you can become very ill even dead.
In the mean time have someone besides you change the air filter for your house, and wash your hair and change to freshe linnens each night.
Bottom line see a doctor before it gets worse.

Bada-boom. ;)
Today has been horrible. I went to the docs and had about 70 bucks in meds scripted. A steroid Prednisone, allergy med Zyrtec (best allergy med too I love it!!!) and a antibiotic Azithromycin. Benadryl was bought as a med to use at bed time.
Anyway, had meeting after doc appointment so I just dropped off the script at the pharmacy. After the meeting our little group wen to Chili's and that was a bad move. I started to get really itchy and my throat started to close out of the blue after lunch. Not cool at all. Fortunately as soon as I stepped out of the restaurant though my throat felt better but I was then covered in hives. This really sucks all.... On my neck, face, my lips are swollen and itchy, back, legs, arms... icky...
Hopefully the drugs will help and hopefully I can figure out a trigger as it just isn't my apartment anymore and these hives aren't going away today.
I think I'm just allergic to "Arizona" and it finally caught up with me after being here for three years.

did the dr think it was a food allergy?

Doctor wasn't sure other then it wasn't bed bugs for sure and that something in my "environment" has changed. He was a little dumbfounded as to why I'd get it for two days then not in San Antonio then right when I stepped back home.
So food, he's not sure. I am really hoping it's not the cats but I can't see just coming home out of the blue and boom, you're gonna die cause you have cats.
Though feeling your throat close in a restaurant after eating would lead one to believe that maybe it's some sort of food issue.
All I have to say about that is I better still be able to eat spicy food and seafood or I'm gonna be PISSED!!!!!

Sounds like the same thing that happens to me when i am exposed to molds. I have had really bad reactions to mold while working on ac air ducts. I also had a really bad reaction from mold on a tree while trying to tie the boat of to it to fish. Hope you figure it out and get to feeling better.

Well, just make sure you are not itching and you use topical ointment to avoid a secondary infection...those things are no joke

Well, not that this helps a lot but I will share this...
In roughly 1992 my family had steaks from the "Schwann's" truck. Post dinner I developed hives all over my body, lips swelled, throat was closing... Massive dose of benadryl (sp?) was given... Boom I passed out, but the hives went away. (Medication opened arties and veins so quickly my BP dropped and caused me to pass out).
Roughly spring 1999, preparing shrimp w/ garlic sauce for my soon to be wife. Boom post dinner massive hives. Off to the ER, shot of benadryl (sp?) and I was fine. No drama other than the bill... :)
2004 another homemade seafood dinner brought on another case of the dreaded hives. This time off to the ER as my throat was closing to the point of it was getting hard to breathe. They rush me in and give me an IV of benadryl (sp? again) boom I pass out, wake up with an EKG machine hooked up to me. I then, well vomitted. BP had dropped into the danger zone... Boy did I feel like crud and my dad thought he saw a ghost...
So, am I allergic to seafood, NOPE. I am allergic to a type of food perservative that I do not care to experiment with or find out about anymore than I have tried already. I went to the common allergist prick tests and blood tests with no real conclusions... I carry allergy medicine with me at all times. I can actually feel it on my tongue when I eat something (it's usually from a Chili's, Red Robin etc) that has this perservative in it and if I take my medicine soon enough I actually catch it before the hives break out... Now my hives do not itch, but actually get hot to the touch....
Hope this helps some, it's a b!tch to live with.... But we gotta live....

Yea, I hear you.
Tonight I went to dinner with some FA's from the neg. team and our AFA Staff Lawyer to Sam's in the Biltmore. I kept it simple and had pretty much America food but there were chips and salsa on the table. Asked if it was spicy, and it wasn't so I had a little chips and salsa. Also had a few margaritas.
Well I started to break out into baby hives about an hour later, looking more like bug bites then the hives I had and they didn't itch either thank god. My FA friend who I was chilling with at his room saw them and how fast they just appeared. After they lingered for an hour, they disappeared just as fast as they showed up.
Didn't touch the Benadryl last night, going to take some tonight.
