Hi Gang,

I've created a subscription package to help get the azvjc.org site back up and running. If someone manages to actually get a site up and running, the funds donated will be transferred to whichever person actually gets the old site back up. The funds will be used to pay to have the azvjc.org site hosted.

The donations can be made here:

http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/payments.php

or, if you don't use Paypal and wish to make a donation, you can send payment to:

if needed I can host it for free. I can spare about 500mb of disk space and 2gb of bandwidth

I can add it as an addon domain with my webhost on hg4x4.com

Just keep in mind whoever hosts it that the site runs on .net and has a mssql db.... oh, and the site is a mess and needs a lot of cleaning (and tweaking) to work properly.

im horrible at web design and coding.

the host I use runs a unix box with apache for the web server and has a mysql database. So if you were to use that, the old site would need to be redone

Thanks for the offer... but the problem is; the site has had issues over time because various entities have hosted it cheap or free... and things have changed and the site goes down...

I think if someone gets it up and running under LAMP, we can pay to have it hosted and hopefully; the site will be stable. I'm not so sure how things will work out if the old site is kept under Windblowz.

I am all for a complete re-design of the old site. Start from scratch.

Let me preface this by saying I've only been to the former site maybe 20 times total... Haven't even tried to go there for over a year... It was always a pain to negotiate, and rarely up and functional when I had free time.

So... Please forgive me for asking if there is something about it I clearly don't understand... BUT...Is there a documented supportable need for this "old" site? Or is it basically sentimental in value to someone?

That's bascially the conclusion I came to. I actually have a copy of the site and db. I set up the db on a mssql server and got the site working about 85% on one of my windoze servers and then decided it just wasn't worth it since it's such a mess. When I originally agreed to host the site the site was down so I couldn't see what it was running on. I had a nice home ready for it on a new unix/mysql box... then when I extracted the files I noticed the mess. I unfortunately don't have the time to fix the junk that's wrong nor do I have much interest in re-inventing the wheel as virtualjeepclub.com already exists. If the "old" site was to be redesigned, the old schoolers will probably still want the site the way it was so a major redesign would probably be a wasted effort.

Ob1jeeper the old site is where this whole virtual non-club started, It Def has a sentimental value to it and in its hay day was excellant for posting trips, for ex: Post a trip, attend or tentitive....thats it..simple and NO DRAMA!!! Look at the current drama on the Sunflower mine trip Yesterday..the old site would have been going or not going..not 6 pages of reasons why one can't go on a trip.

I work for a large web hosting company that I can get it hosted on if nessasary.
We are mostly a Windows -based company and have .Net, PHP, Coldfusion, MySQL and MSSQL dbs available.

I am also a programmer that knows Coldfusion and MSSQL quite well, and can offer assistance to build a site.

Let me know if you may need any of the above services.

I'm going to point azvjc.org there as well, soon, but want to wait a bit for Mike G. to first try and figure out why http://azvjc.cataclysm.net/ causes casalemedia.com popups everytime it's accessed.

anything on there that would cause the proxy to block it? might be the popups?

Something is not right with the old site... I'm getting no response or incredibly slow response on many of the pages and sometimes even on the home page. I just tried the members link and it is still cranking away after two minutes...

Anyone else finding things slow or not working?

It is on a Windows XP box so it has a 10 user limit. It is like pulling a 50 foot boat with a Honda Civic :)

The site has old time value, but also posting up runs and tracking who was definate, tentative, etc... was more defined. I like that site for posting up runs better, plus the person who worked the site along time again could query and find out facts on who ran what, what trails were being run, it gave a history that you could pull stuff from.

I would like to see the old site back up and running.
