OK the trailer is fixed with new brakes, repack wheel bearings and four new tires. I am packing to go to Lake Tahoe for 14 days starting Tuesday AM. Well, that includes travel time, I had to cancel our airline tickets because my wife insisted we take the jeep. Don't you just love it when they do that. :D
Our friend who comes over here to wheel for spring training from San Jose will meet us at the lake to take us on the Rubicon June 5 & 6 and maybe Strawberry Creek or Deer Creek/Blue Lakes on the 7th.
We will have four days prior to his arrival and one or two after to do other trails or things of interest in the area. Who has been there and has suggestions on what to do, run or see in the area that we should not miss ??
Thanks for any and all suggestions. :) :D :D :D I'm gettin pumped over this now.

Do a drive around the lake. Only takes a few hours and it is truly beautiful. Wheeling is spotting up thru there and I will not even try to give you any pointers on that as it changes all the time.
Lake T has been taken over by the wealthy who mostly dictate to the cities how the cows eat grass.
This is so bad in fact that ONE guy who had one of the largest homes on the lake decided he did NOT like Jet skis. So, no jet skis. Took the Feds to change it and it drug out for years.
I used to go there nearly every weekend, Fri-Mo back in the early 80's just about the time it was REALLY being discovered. I watched it change so much that my plans on buying a home/property there were nixed.
Clearly one of the most beautiful places in the US with some of the ugliest people. Spend much time there and you will think Snobsdale is down-home friendly folk.
They HATE: Jeeps, Motorcycles, Jet skis, ATVs but do love your money.
I liken it to Santa Fe NM where I lived for a while and thank gawd and Greyhound I am gone.
However if like me your first impression will be to fall in love with it, lets buy a house/property here. But believe me it has a seamy underbelly.
Enjoy the beauty of the land and the lake.;)

I have freinds living in the general area, and in the past have spent quite a bit of time in and around the surrounding area. Like Don indicated, it's changed dramatically, especially so from when I first visited there in the late 60's, when there was not much building development started as yet... Like Don said, not all of it's changes are for the better, but that's out of my pervue of control, so I try to not let it get me down.:p
It is indeed IMHO one of the natural beautiful wonders of the world, and how on earth anyone thought the Grand Canyon deserved to be on the list, and Lake Tahoe not, is WELL beyond my ability to comprehend...:p
Besides the obligatory loop around the lake, there's SUCH a long list of things to see in the area, that it's hard to know where to begin... DO NOT miss the opportunity to walk down to Vikingsholm on Emerald Bay... It's a bit of a walk, so take a picnic lunch and plenty of water, and plan on spending at least a couple hours down there touring the grounds and the castle, which is now a Calif State Park.
You may elect to take one of the evening dinner cruises, which are always fun, and also don't miss the opportunity to have lunch or dinner @ Garwoods, on the NW shores... OUTSTANDING chow, and thiere collection of finely crafted wooden boats, is unparalleled...:D
Other scenic areas nearby worth seeing include Kings Canyon, Sequoia, and Yosemite Nat'l Parks, as well as the lesser visited, Lassen Volcano.
If you're into historical stuff, there's plenty of that to see, and I almost always enjoy a drive up to Virginia City, to have a burger & beer, and walk the streets, window shopping in the quaint little stores and letting my imagination roam about life as it was during it's more colorful days. These days, it's pretty similar to Jerome, but with a slightly more colorful/bawdy past.
Also Hang-Town (Placerville, CA) got it's name as the result of a bit of somewhat hasty neck-stretching, and there's some kinda neat stuff to see there, as well as a scenic drive from Tahoe to there, and the scenic drive from there over to Georgetown, CA where the Jeepers Jamboree is home-based.
The North shores of Tahoe are not all that far from the site of the ill-fated Donner expedition, and the Pony Express had several way-stops along the Carson river, at least one or two of which have been reconstructed or preserved, just East of Carson City area, that may be interesting, if you're into that sort of stuff. (FWIW, one of my friends home is built around the remains of a former Pony Express Stop... It is a WAY friggin' cool place...:D :D )
Just to the South & East of Tahoe, near Yerrington, is Conrad Hilton's ranch, but ya gotta get an invite to go lookee-loo:eek: :D
I rarely go to the Tahoe area without also including at least a 1/2 day to visit what's left of Harrah's auto collection, in Reno at what is now named "The National Auto Museum".
Hope some of htis helps... Be safe & have fun...;)

You should give the Fordyce Creek trail a go if you have the chance. Its just a short drive north from Lake Tahoe to Truckee, then west down I-80 to Cisco Grove. I've done part of it and it was a blast.

I have been there winter, spring, summer and fall and I don't care when you go its BREATHTAKINGLY beautiful. I have traveled the world and have got to rank Lake T as one of the most beautiful places on earth. I never got tired it.

Thanks to everyone who replied, I got some good info on things to do and see and thanks Nena and everyone for the PMs.
I drove by Lake Tahoe in 06 on our way to run the Con backwards but did not do anything but look at the lake. It has been 23 years since my wife and I spent any time around LT, Virginia City, and Carson City so it will all be new to us. I just remember going across the lake in August and getting caught in a snow shower. I got one e-mail that suggested I go to Barrett Lake but when I searched it I found out that the lake trail is closed until mid-August because of the snow.
I have printed out the replies so I will not forget anything and will try to post pics when possible.
Thanks again guys, it's time to put the jeep on the trailer, we leave in the morning, I can't wait to get there. :D :D

Just a quick update.
We made Tahoe with no problems, 11 hours first day and stayed in Hawthorne, three hours day two. We have not done any wheeling yet probably Sunday first day just an easy trail then starting Tuesday on the Rubicon. Monday we have a fishing charter, just Kathy & I and Captain Bob. Yesterday we went on a company boat tour of the lake. Eating way too much as the company people never miss a meal and only go to the best places.
Here are a few pics around the lake.

We are back from our Nevada adventure. We had no Internet after we left the Hyatt so no updates.
Sat. we moved to Stateline, our new digs are at 7700ft with 40 steps straight up. Seven trips to get moved in, no way for a fat, old gimp to start the week. Sun. we ran the Genoa summit (8900') trail, a scenic two tracker. Lunch at Spooner Lake and return through Genoa.
Mon. we went fishing and caught our limit of Lake Trout, 2 ea. The lake was fantastic. In the evening we met Pat Waite, our friend from San Jose who would lead us on the Rubicon.
Here are a few pics of fishing and the Genoa trail.

Great pic. of the sunrise, and that lake trout is HUGE!

I think this is Walker's Hill and the Hummer guys let us pass. Many of them were taking pictures as we went right up. There were six of them. They are our finest, I think there were 16 guys total, one civilian guide, the commanding officer and the rest were Navy Seals on a training mission. They had left at 8 AM and we left after 10, they were having some difficulty but nothing serious.

No worries. I wheel with Pat most every year when he comes over for Spring Training ballgames and told him to just toss it in his trail kit and bring it back next year :)
He said anytime we want to use his cabin just give him a call. We thought we might be able to this summer or fall but plans changed so maybe next year. I really want to run the Rubicon but need to arrange a way to tow the CJ over there first.

This evening we took three of our fish fillets to the Fremont Bistro and they cooked them for us for $15 each meal. What a deal and they were fantastic. They fixed one each, blackened, breaded and deep fried, and baked in a garlic sauce. All were served family style with a salad and three sides, we could not finish them. I took the camera for pics and forgot to snap them. We ate fish for two more days.
OK, this is Wed. morning June 6th, we got snowed on and the temp at our place is 26, no tube doors today.

http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=11566&stc=1&d=1181611357
After a white knuckle drive up a couple of mountains, slip-sliding on every patch of ice, we arrive at Blue Lake. We just made the turnoff, a few more miles and Carson Pass required chains. These roads and parking area are not wet, that is a sheet of ice
http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=11567&stc=1&d=1181611357
Well we looked at the trail and decided with just two rigs it was too dangerous and besides the casino was much warmer. After gambling and lunch we arrived back at the condo to this. On the plus side Pat won $190 on the crap table and Kathy $150 on the slots, I drank beer.
http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=11568&stc=1&d=1181611357
Thur was clear and sunny but not that warm, 29 on the hill and about 33 at the trailhead. Here we are heading in to the back side of the Rubicon, the beginning of the end

After lunch we go a little further to where the Rubicon Springs Resort stood back in the day. Now it is the main site for all the jamborees on the Rubicon. It is on private property and a caretaker was there along with a lot of mud

The caretaker stays in this cabin which is on the site of the old resort which is long gone
http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=11594&stc=1&d=1181761914
The caretaker on the left talking to Pat, he is here for 101 days this year. I don't know if someone else comes when he leaves. You can see the stage in the background to the right, they usually have a couple bands. To the left is the bar area. They also have a cooking area with many grills. It's party time during the jambos
http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=11595&stc=1&d=1181761914
Another shot of the graveyard on our way back up Cadillac. Apparently in the old days someone took a Cadillac down the hill using planks and ropes, they say it is still there somewhere, we never saw it.
http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=11596&stc=1&d=1181761914
The amount of pictures taken on any obstacle was directly proportional to how scared Kathy was since she was in charge of pictures. This is the only shot she got going up Cadillac. It was the best obstacle we did for pucker power
http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=11597&stc=1&d=1181761914
Heading out we had one big, deep mud hole that had us worried
http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=11598&stc=1&d=1181761914
We had come down to the right of the tree in the center, you can see about three feet of dirt straight down into the mud for a couple more feet. The other side looked worse coming down. There are two large boulders under water where the front of Pat's jeep is. When he hit the second boulder it turned him right, into the dropoff so he gave it a try.
http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=11599&stc=1&d=1181761914
The pictures in the next post show Pat finally getting out of the mud and the only video Kathy took of us in the mud if I can get it loaded on Webshots

The only way I would go back is if I could camp on the trail for two nights to really get the whole experience and also do Barrett Lake which does not open until mid August because of the snow.
That's it for this trip.
Matt, let me know when you plan to get over there maybe I can tag along.
That's all folks

Awesome pics and report! It really makes me want to get back up there, but maybe later in the summer when it's drier. :D I have considered the Jamboree--it would be fun to just be escorted and catered to the whole way for a change.

Looks like a great trip!! Wonderful pics also. My Jeep's buildup has been pushed back to the last week of July. Maybe a trip to the Cracks after that?? Then Tahoe, who knows.

Tire changes are part of the CB duties, depends on who has that Job, hey Brad, you gonna make this trip? ;)
I'm not even gonna comment on the safety of short arms on this trip....
