I was dropping the gas tank tank today and noticed this discoloration on both rear shocks. Purple-blue-tan. Should I be concerned, is this covered by warranty? Anyone else had this happen?
Pic does no justice:

Unless that shock is a double walled tube, the first indication of over-heating from fast desert running or washboarded roads, is usually the paint on the tube will become heat dis-colored at the location where the piston is traveling during that type of running, leaving a ring/band of discolored paint on the shock body.
But I agree that it sure looks like it's been getting heated in a localized area...Are you seeing any dampness or fluid seepage yet?

Saw that same thing on some shocks that were on a Jeep....the owner lived in Crown King and drove to Phoenix daily. (if I remember correctly) Those washboard roads take their toll.

If it is not leaking any fluid, put it back on its fine.:)

No high speed driving off road & no problems with the shocks at all.
