tow strap and tow hooks?????? we don't need no sinking tow stap and tow hooks! we made it through that rock garden running stock height, 31" tires, open/open ---- no frills and the 8x10 glossy to prove it ------ just need a good spotter. (thanks mike 77 cj5)
We'll be there....but mind you, we've earned the right to laugh/giggle/guffaw at anyone that is better than stock that can't make it without being towed....you just need to pick a good line. :p

05-23-2007, 10:20 PM
if you want to meet at the station, you are going to come up to fountain hills the back way most likely - where you live in phoenix, you could really come either way you are so far south and east. The gas station is on the south ... the shell ... off the main drag in fountain hills. The airdown station is the first left hand turn up the hill after you pass bushnell tanks (i'll pm you the directions tomorrow if noone's posted by then)

Gotta watch the race:D
amber.hodge
05-23-2007, 10:36 PM
oh my god....cuz nascar is so exciting...wow....500 left hand turns...Its so thrilling.
Actually, I'd be happier if they had a rock crawling competition...but I'll take watching grass grow over nascar. :) sorry barko....nascar second to wheeling....maybe even one millionth to wheeling in our home! (i think it comes in right after figure skating)

05-23-2007, 10:37 PM
oh, so that Fireball can get to work, what timeline are we running this thing in? I figure if we shoot for being done by 1500 or sooner, he'll be fine???
Fire Ball
05-23-2007, 10:40 PM
Not committing yet but I'm very interested. Trouble is I'll be up all day and have to work all night. I Do get about 3 hours in LAS I can sleep and I'm only dead heading to LAS so I can sleep on the plane. Plus we can leave a little early if we need to. I'm gonna ask Carrie when she gets home. She is still at her meeting.

yes, you may choose to bypass the rock garden, but the rest is fairly simple. rock garden we did lose our step down on the right hand side...well, I had to jump on it to knock it back out to where it wasn't bent hugely....
I'm sure you'll be fine. You have a better set up than we had (you bump anything, then you can convince the hubby on more mods...that's what I did with mine!!)
Fire Ball
05-23-2007, 10:46 PM
This trail has 3 obstacles that are somewhat difficult and a rock garden with some pretty nasty boulders. The rest is mostly road. A stock vehicle will definitely drag metal and possible rocker damage. The lockers on a Rubi will definitely get you though but expect to drag the belly on several spots.

ademster,
Take I-60 E to 87. North on 87 till you hit the Shea intersection. Make left. Take that road about a 1/2 mile and the shell station will be on the left.
I may go... debating right now.

Sunday run? excellent. Last time I went with the group my rig was still darn near stock, so I headed back down with the Grand Cherokee once we left the mine. It's more aggressive now, so I shouldn't have a problem running the whole loop this time.
See ya there.

I know, I know...but...My poor husband doesn't have a single clean pair of underwear or shorts, my son has no clean jammas or underwear or shorts. He goes to his dad's first thing Monday AM. I cannot just blow off my responsibilities as a wife and a mother to go play. I have a kitchen and bathroom to scrub, clothes to wash and fold and other household chores that need to be done so the boys can have a clean house and clothes.
Sorry!!! I'd love to put it off till monday, but I cannot stand living in a mess and Remi and Ben need clean clothes tomorrow not Monday. :D We'll be up for a run with you and the fam two weeks from today...believe me - putting off wheeling is not an easy thing to do for us!
Mike 77 CJ5
05-26-2007, 10:09 PM
WA WA WA If the washing machine is working right now they will have clothes for Monday. You will have to come up with something better that. Like maybe a family member died, your in the hospital, I don't know, something good:cool:

I'm really tired, have clothes in the wash, but a mountain of clothes that need to be washed that are literally a foot and a half deep through the laundry room and 3 feet into our bedroom. It is alive, it is a monster, and I must destroy it....no amount of jeering will keep me from defeating the laundry monster tomorrow. :D (there was no embellishment on how bad the laundry is behind there...ben had to go camping with no clean underwear along...I have to do laundry!) :( bad wifey!! bad! :D

Well Mike Thanks for leading the three of us on the trail... I had a blast...
My jeep cut out on me 2 more times after the first time when you passed me...
im thinking the wiring for the CPS is getting to hot where it is routed causing to high of resistance in the wiring and the injector pulses are getting confused...
I stp leave the fans on and it cools down a little and fires right back up..when I get to work on tuesday I will have to remember to grab my 4 channel osciloscope to see hwtas going on..
anyhow we dont have any pictures to provide well due to we didnt take the time to stop and take pictures.
I had a blast though.... I would like to do this again with in a few months... and take the wife with me...

Joe Samdog3 led an 8-Jeep entourage on a leisurely tour today on a beautiful day. He's a terrific tourguide, everybody got through smoothly, and it was a great time. Thanks, Joe!

The Sun Flower Mutiny
The Story . . .
The Trip Was Originally Set For Sun June 3.i Had Some Jeepers Say That They Could Not Make It On That Date. So I Changed The Date To Sun May 27, At Some Inconvenience To Me. ( Grand Daughter,s Birthday).
You Guessed It . . . They Were The First To Drop Out.well That,s Ok It Is An Informal Club ,but I Did Change The Date For Them.
When I First Realized . . .
We All Met At The Shell Starting Ap 7:45 To 8:00 As Planned. We Waited Til 8:15 As Planned. As I Walked To My Jeep. I Said I Needed A Radio Check - Some Knobs Had Been Turned. I Looked At My Cb Adjusting The Knobs On A 10 Count, When I Looked Up To Back Out -everyone Was Gone . . . So Much For Following The Trip Leadeer To The Trail Head And Air-down Spot . . .
Boy, Am I Stupid . . .
I Finally Caught Up To The Pack And The New 'leader' Just As They Went Through The First Gate, They All Pulled Over. There Were About 11 Jeeps In The Group. I Was The Last One In, So I Passed Them Up And Went To The Air-down Spot. I Aired Down Took A Leak
Waited . . No One . .no One . . .
So, Back Down The Road To Find Out What Happened . . . No One Knew. So, Back Down To The Air-down Spot . . .then They All Came Trickling In.
So, I Ask (sarcastically) Who Is Leading This Trip? Oh, I Will. Said The New 'trail Leader' Claiming To Know The Trail. I Said Fine, I Will Go Home. The New 'leader'left With 2 Jeeps Following Him And Went On The Trail. That Left 8 Jeeps Counting Me. Those That Stayed Wanted Me To Lead, Afteer All, I Had Set Up The Trip. Some Said They Came To Ride With Me. They Did, And, We Had A Good Time And Went To A Couple Of Spots That The Others Did Not Know About.
Witth That Said I Feel Better; I Am Uncertain If I Will Ever Post Any Runs For All To See.
I Still Got To My Grand Daughter's Birthday Party - A Few Hours Late.

Joe,
I can say I must have been the first to pee in your cheerie ohs this morning when Ben and I opted to make the difficult choice of staying home to take care of responsibilities instead of wheeling after letting you know that I couldn't wheel on the 3rd of June. I'm sorry it was the pebble that started the avalanche of bad things in a bad day for you. Things do happen to come up and sometimes we cannot control being too behind on stuff. :(
I wouldn't, however, let one bad day cause you to boycott posting runs. Things do happen and the more we try to control them, the less control we find we actually have. Its not a personality contest, its not a glamour show - its wheeling - an escape from drama and the city life - we should all enjoy together and not sweat the small stuff....again, sorry to have started you off to a bad day.

Ain't it the truth.
Hats off to Joe for patience enough to see the rest of us (who stayed with him as originally planned) through an terrific outing.
I speak for myself when I say that losing an excellent leader such as Joe would be a loss to the whole feeling of this club.
This was my second outing with the club, and plan on more in the future. The group I went with today was an excellent one, and I'm glad that those even newer than I to the club had a good time too.
Thanks Joe, and to all those I wheeled with today... see ya later. :)

Joe, keep posting, please... I didn't know what happened at the Shell station. I did not go there as I live in the east valley and went up the Bush Highway to 87. Met up with three others to wait for the group to go by, only we thought we missed you, so we took off for the trail, only we were actually early. My boys and I had a great time on the trail. Thanks for leading the group and Conor thanks you for the Oreos.

Joe, if I upset you in anyway I apologize. I was the tail jeep in the three that left early. However, I really did not what was going on because you told my wife and I that you were going home. As to the first or second gate, air down spot and people parking their trucks, we stopped with everyone else. I had never been to the Sunflower trail before so I was just following the others.
As to you not wanting to post trips anymore that's your progative, but I think it would be a shame.
Once again I am sorry if I upset you for leaving ahead of you. But I did have fun 4 wheeling with the two other guys.

X2 it was my first ru, I heard you and Mike talking trying to figure out who was going to lead.. so he said he would.. he started rolling, so I caught up behind him, and so did jr4asu, it was a shame we all separated... we tried several time to contact you ll on the cb, to have ya'll catch up.. but you decided either not to respond or changed channels...
I didnt miss out on anything, not having a big group made it alot more fun... I had a blast.. and would love to do this trail anytime with Mikey leading and jr4asu in the group... it was ablast.
thanks Mike for the tour of the sunflower Mine trail...

Joe, one thing I learned a long time ago, do your runs on your schedule because there will always be people who can't make it, say they will and don't show, and those who say can't and then do show up.
If I ever post saying I can't make it, I'm not asking you to change the date, just letting you know I'm dissapointed I can't join your group. I hope no one would ever change their plans based on one of my posts. It would be flattering but un necessary since I have a very strange schedule compared to most people.
I enjoy wheeling on your runs and if the others bailed on you it is their loss especially on a first run since I know you give a good narrative about the area.
Hoping I'm not one of the problem children,
Bill
P.S. We WILL make one of the night runs even if I have to have a headache one day ;)

I am not saying anything bad about Joe, I was just under the impression that Mike was taking over and gonna lead the trail...
it was just a huge misunderstanding onmy part...
and I learned alot fromt his trail through MIke...
We will have to do it again, sometime soon...
thanks

I am speechless this kind of thing happened on Joe's trip today. After reading all the OFFTOPIC drama that took place prior to the run it would have made me think there could be possible issues with this run. Joe is a great friend of mine that is a awsome trip leader..Shame on the folks that had HIjacked Joe's trip and decided to take over...I don't know what would have happened if I were there and most likely would have had a few choice words for those that Hijacked the trip. This kind of behavior is not warrented here and will possibly have a negative side effect: "Phantom trail rides"
What are these phantom trail rides???? Well lets see I pm Joe, then OHioTJ and a few others That I'm close to and choose to do our own thing. Then some of the VJC members see a trail report on a trip that was never posted for others to meet and enjoy the history of these trails. If this is the way you pefer to do it, Thats ok. Your doing a dis-service to future VJC members by HIjacking a trailrun.....

Joe pulled up and said he was going home. He was acting like a 5 year old. We pulled up to the split and I offered to run tail gunner and the leader got ****ty, so I left and 2 other jeeps went with me.

I'm not pointing fingers at anyone..I was not there
Just remember to follow the golden rule while on trail runs, we are all out to have a great time and not going to hit the trail to get into a arguement.
