OK, Its on

Winching 101 Clinic hosted by Hunter.

Among other subjects we will be covering Winching Theory, mechanics of winching, Safety concerns, prep work, recovery tricks, etc. And yes, we will talk about the Widowmake.... er. um.. Hi-Lift Jacks!

If things go well, we will order some pizza. Same rules as the BBQ, if you want to bring a drink or two along, feel free.

We will pick a couple of jeeps, pull them in, turn on the cooler and rap away.
Got questions? Bring them. Q and A is always good.

It will be held at my shop at:

625 S Smith Suite, Tempe, AZ, 85281

May 12th, 12:00 Noon

Any questions, feel free to email: hunteroffroad@aol.com or PM here on the board. Or, if your old school like me, give me a jingle at 480-557-7577

Also, the Ramp will be set up to play on if you want to check anything, or just stretch out yoru springs.

There will parking in front. I might have some of my neighbors working on Saturday so I am not sure how much space will be avaible in the back.

I am thinking 2-3 hours. The clinic itself wont take that long, but I am sure the stories, compareing notes, and ramp time will take some time too. Good times.

Best Regards
John K

I'll be there Hunter, without a winch, but with an open mind and ready to listen.

HELP SUPPORT YOUR SPORT...................

The ASA4WDC has raffle tickets for sale for $2.00 each. 4-Wheelers Supply is donating a winch.......

Only 2500 tickets to be sold so it's a GREAT DEAL for $2.00 investment.

John, I will be out of town that weekend but if you'd like some tickets to sell if there's interest just let me know and I'll get some to you.

ill try to make it to help out. there are a lot of safety issues to point out and the advantages/dissadvantages to wire rope versus synthetic.

Anyway I have a 1970 CJ-5 with a Koenig Iron Works 9000 lb power take off winch I have never used.I have not needed it yet and that is a good thing because I have no idea how. There are two small levers between the seats to work it.Any one been around long enough to tell me what is what?

Sorry I can not make it. The adoption will be finished that morning after almost 4yrs of battling CPS and we are having a celebration party that evening. Very strange that AZ/Phx has gone to Saturday Family Court. Good luck and I hope everyone learns a lot. Will there be actual demonstrations or not. Thx

No worries. Come if you can, and if you cant, I will most likely hold another or someone else will. Coming late is fine too.

Steve,
Congrats man. That is cool. Hope it goes well!

I'd like to come - I am getting new bumpers with a winch next week (if they come in) and I don't have a clue what to do with it. I wasn't around for the BBQ what are the "rules?" Should I bring food or something?

Thanks SaraBeth :)

Steve,
Congrats man. That is cool. Hope it goes well!

Thank you Hunter. It really has been an uphill battle amongst other things. We are very excited to finally put some closure to this. All of our kids (5) plus Donnyvan (6) my wife and I will all be in the court room that morning for the final signing. It should be exciting.

But back on topic> I really wish that I could make it. I did towing and recovery for nearly 9yrs and could still learn more as well as offer some pointers. I'm always willing to learn something from someone else. Maybe next time. If I get my Jeep fixed maybe I'll be able to start working on some real upgrades on it. Good luck with the class.

Well, then, I will see you when I see you.:D

Looking forward to meeting everyone. Should be a good time. I will have a few colds ones avaible for those that need one or forgot theirs. Also, got some killer T-shirts for sale too!

Be warned though, I found out today that chances are, one of the bands across the alley will most likley be practiceing. For those of you that have been down there... you all know I how I feel about that:mad:

Park in back or front. See ya all soon.

Thanks again, John, for running an excellent clinic. You've obviously done this before; it was a terrific, informative, and entertaining session on winches, winching, and Hi-lift. Also appreciated the ramp play afterwards.

I got so excited learning so much, that as soon as I got home I did a nice, tight wrap on my MasterPull line (you'd be proud of me:) ).

Ah! You guys, it was my pleasure. I am never really sure how these things go, and I am always a bit nervous. heck, i was happy that folks showed up. I am glad so many of you enjoyed yourself and learned some good info. Your comin' over to my place for a Saturday afternoon, want to make sure it is worth it.

Shnipe, shops rags are 10 bucks. L and XL. :D

Ken, Nice job. That's pretty cool!

And dont forget the Mouse either. Improtant lesson there.

Thanks John for putting this together and for sharing your experiences and knowledge. I learned quite a bit about winches yesterday. I have never used one before and never heard any instructions or precautions other than what I picked up on trail runs. Good stuff - the safety precautions you talked about could very likely save a life or prevent an injury. I think you should do this again so others can benefit that didn't get to attend. Recovery safety is SO important and it's highly likely that all of us here will be involved in or a spectator to a recovery situation. Everyone should have a basic knowledge of safety.

I wish I had more time to hang around at Hunter's yesterday. I had an appointment at 3 so I had to rush out of there. Quite a few familiar faces, I think I managed to at least say hello to those of you I know - sorry if I missed anyone. And I'm bummed I didn't get to meet any of the new faces. In due time I suppose. I didn't even get to meet our host, John, who did a great job teaching this class! I have some questions I wanted to run by him but ran out of time. I think I'll stop in on my own next week and say hello.

One last thing I want to say to Desertdawg - Mike, you have one seriously bad-to-the-bone, awesome looking Jeep! I bet it performs as good as it looks, too! I know you put a lot of $$ into it, but I really think you got your money's worth! Best looking rig I've ever seen - congrats! :)

Thank's John for spending the time to put this on. Very informative! Have fun patroling the desert today and try to stay cool.

Thanks David! Yeah I hope it performs as well as it looks and I don't break too many parts. :) I guess I'll see just how bad it really is. I have'nt even had a chance to try it out yet. Next weekend at the Cracks will be the first time.

Missed the clinic. When is the next one? Will there be a next one?
Perhaps we could get a "cliffs-note" version of the 101 high points.

That would be great, I am hoping Desert Fab can get me in to fab up my mount and then I will get to play with it a bit. If I am lucky I will learn to use it a little bit before the class later this year... Then I can learn more and correct whatever I am doing wrong...

Have a good one, Z
