So, several of us that ran Hackberry this last Monday talked about doing something this coming Monday. So who wants to go, and where would you guys like to run?
I don't particularly care where. We talked about Martinez or maybe the White Tanks. ...

Not sure yet. Just bought the harbor freight air compressor and want to do some wrenching to install it on Monday, but I'm sure we can wait if there is something worth it.
We would be up for either - martinez sounds good or white tanks - martinez is close to daycare and white tanks are close to his dad for visitation drop off....either works for 0800 or 0900 (can we do 0900 and get some rest on the day off????)

Ill lead the Tanks if you decide on the Wessside....

You can always do what a lot of people do, just take the compressor out of the box and use it on the tires and put it away. This will work fine till it is installed. Kind of a pain but it works. Just be carefull of moving parts under the hood. (Sorry, felt obligated to add that)

That's how I used my checker one. Worked great that way.
I'm thinking the Apache Trail on Monday but will know more after my doc's appointment tomorrow.

Fireball - We decided to do the carry in case thing...so no wrenching. I'm home sick today with the boy and Ben is broken down in Phoenix. Jeep is idling really low and sputtering...not running right...didn't want to start this morning.....If we get that fixed, we'll go Monday as I'll be on leave.
AZG23 - You meantioned a name of a trail that starts with "tie rod" out by white tanks....we were advised on Monday that we shouldn't go on any trails named after jeep parts until we have armor put on! :)

So I am new but want to get out. My Unlimited has only done the Firebird out at the Tanks, but I have diff covers, a three inch lift, and 35" tires. But I am so not sure about disconnecting and reconnecting the sway bars and deflating the tires so I would need help, OK maybe a lot of help, so I understand if you don't want me to tag along...but I would like to go especially if you hit the west side. Thanks SaraBeth

JKDUP,
This would only be our fourth run, ourselves. I think it is important to go out with some of the more experienced people from the VJC, as we've learned a TON from them, and have more fun going out with a lead. You are more than welcome! Also, do you have a CB radio yet? We didn't have one on our 1st run, and got one right after. They are really helpful on a trail with other people. I don't know where you would go out there...Out here we went to CB Exchange, 4Wheelers, and bought the radio off of our neighbor who is selling some of them.
Jeep is running fine now. Ben put in 2 bottles of V12 fuel system cleaner on the mechanics from work's advice, and the check engine light is off now. Looks like we are going out on Monday ---
AZG23 - where do you want to go????

I am putting on front and rear warn rock crawler bumpers with a winch sometime next week - the guys at 4wheelers haven't called yet to set up my appointment. But I game for those trails if you all think it can do it - I will look into the CB thing since I don't have one. Anybody care if I bring my dog?

If you have ever led a group of 10, 15, or 20 plus rigs on a trail run you would understand why people will limit runs to no more than 10. Depending on the trail, how the other rigs are equipped, and driving skills of the participants, anything over 10 can be a very, very long day especially when people either get stuck or break something on their rig.
I have led several trail runs and a few of them had 20 + rigs show up. It's no fun especially for the guys in the back that are sitting there idle waiting for 19 or more rigs to do one obstacle.
Now when I see a lot of interest in a particular trail, I will also limit the group to ten. It just makes for a more enjoyable day for everyone.

You sure are being whiney. We were all fine with 10 rigs. As newbies, we have liked being on runs under 10 rigs. Yes, you can do more, I'm sure, but we'd have been out at hackberry last week until well after dark if we had 20+ rigs. If you don't like how he posted the run up, then don't attend. Well, I got tasked out to another office today and didn't have a lunch hour, so couldn't run up to get the permit. We can't do it legally...plus ben's jeep keeps not wanting to start.....he's no mechanic, but he got it running the old fashioned way this morning....disconnected CB from the battery, didn't start....so he took the butt end of a hatchet to the battery a few times and it started just fine...
Any guesses on what the heck is wrong with it?
Anyway, will have to be next time or if jeep is running better, and there is an east valley run, we could probably do that if it started mid morning.

Loosen the clamps (1/2" or 13mm...) then pull the large wires (cables) off the battery, and "clean the posts" of the accumulated lead oxide. Checker has the correct wire-brush post cleaner for this job, but a pocket knife will work, if you are careful, and ONLY scrape off the offending oxidized material, to get a CLEAN contact (both the post AND the cable end portion that mates to the Batt Post...) :D ;)
When it's re-assembled, slather on a thin layer of wheel bearing grease to protect the lead posts from air, which is causing them to oxidize... Will likely need to do this cleaning ritual annually, (more often if the battery starts leaking acid and corrodes the terminals faster...:p )
BTW: TJ's do NOT like low voltage, so it will run crappy when the terminals are dirty also...:) ;)
Good Luck...

Well that's good because I think the needing air and help with the sway bars will all be done by me! But y'all don't worry about too much CB talking I will probably never figure out how to use it. And I am not annoying - there are better words...;)
Apparently there is fluid in the differentials and mine is leaking in the front - taking it in this afternoon to see what the story is...:(

Hey John, to answer your question from earlier. It takes me a little under an hour to get there from the intersection of the US60 and the 101 to the exit for Watson. That's with no traffic. I'm not sure where you're coming from, but hopefully that will give you an idea of how long it takes.

AZG23
05-05-2007, 06:52 PM
yes...its at the south end of the White Tanks...in Buckeye.
Intimidator is a 4.5....but only due to the CAN opener obstacle...otherwise its not too bad and there is an early out before the Can opener if you dont want to do it...

Dealership - I am so not good with engine mechanic type things. I break it someone else fixes it and then I break it again. It works for me. :D They had to take off the new front diff skid plate and put it back on again - well that is what they said - but it isn't leaking anymore and that is all I care about!
Going to get the CB today at Radio Shack - I haven't used one in ages - I am sure it will be fine.

John, you should be OK on everything except the last obstacle. I could probably winch you up it, or you could take the early out.

I got a handheld CB - that should be easy enough for me to figure out - the dash goes so low in the JK it would be in the way underneath and I can't put it on top with the top off. See you guys tomorrow. SB :)

Hi Everyone,
We had a great time today. It was fun to meet some new folks and see you usual suspects. I thought Sara Beth did great and so did her new Jk. I'm actually impressed with the beast.
I posted my pics up to my webshots. Look at them using the slideshow feature in the upper right corner.
Lance, tell Taylor sorry, but the close up I took of her turned out to be only of her legs and the side of your jeep. I think a bug made me flinch!!!

Haha, you know, they are pretty fancy, but she doesn't mind bashing them up, and quite frankly, I enjoyed riding in her rig with her. I learned a lot about the new body style today. Maybe I wouldn't have picked them out for my Jeep, but they did a great job none the less.
First impression was that it was a big rig to take through there, but on circumspect, ya know, the new ones are not very tippy at all. You don't get that sensation like you're going over. I want to test drive the two door on Woody. Ya think they'll let me? :D
Just sayin',

Thanks Brad for leading. That sucks about your driveshaft bro. I thought I was the only one that does that out there.:D I noticed a mark on my rear DS last night right at the U-joint. But it's not vibing so I guess I got lucky. I need to learn to stay off those things.

Precision Drivelines in PHX fixed mine the last 2 times. It cost $65 both times and they turned it around in 24 hours. That was just to straighten and balance it. If it needs to be retubed he told me it's $145. Just an FYI.
