I find myself in need of yet another steering box. 2 boxes in 2 years is 1 too many. I was thinking of the agr sb2. Anyone have any experience with this one?

I went thru the same thing with my 93XJ. With the 35" tires and running the harder trails, stock steering box seals just wouldnt hold. They would leak like a seive from the seal near the pitman arm. After talking to Pat at BenchWorks, he talked me out of the AGR box because its pricey and still a smaller piston box.

I ended up taking Pat's advice and I hit the bone yard for a J-20 steering box. I then had Pat at BenchWorks rebuild the box and pre-drill it for hydro assist. When choosing the correct J-20 box, I had to look for the flare style fitting as thats what my application was. When I installed the box, I had to space it off the frame rail aprox. 3/8".

Hope this helps.

Benchworks rebuilt and ported a Saginaw box for me and it works great. If there is any chance that you are going to run hydro assist have them port the box for you while its being built.

I have been using an AGR - SB2 for three years, pushing 36's without any issues. Lucky I guess.

There is another option which I had been considering...

One of my buddies from Texas installed a Dodge Durango Steering box from a '99 Durango, 4wd, V8. It has a bigger piston and fits right in the stock Jeep frame mounts, but its got a slightly different steering ratio than the stock TJ box.

I would be interested to see what Pat says about these boxes. They may be easier to get ahold of than a J20 box.

If you are looking for a ram asist with pump and box look at Sam's Offroad.

http://www.sams4x4store.com/index.html

Cheapest price i have found.

I have also found that running a small tranny cooler on the return line of the pump helps with fluid heat and adds more fluid. I went throw 2 boxes in 6months on my XJ. I was told from a friend he had the same problem so we went to AutoZone got one of there $25.00 tranny coolers and mounted it in front of my rad. and now my wine is gone and the fluid is not as hot. Worth a shot. I'm also going to get the rock Ram setup and keep the cooler just makes since.

X Benchworks. Keep it local. If you have any issues you can walk in their front door. Phone order is NOT always best when it comes to parts. Thanks

Went your talking a cuople hundered dallers in price differnce. The phone order is not a bad idea. I called a shop here in the vally that is active on these forms asking a price on the kit not installed just parts and it was over $1,000.00 for it. Sam's has it for alot cheaper. same parts. I even called AGR and it was $850.00 so yha ok.

This will definately help. I added on to my jeep with 35" tires and still on my stock box with no wine. Also the hydro assist is a nice option to add.

You may also want to get your box rebuilt. I have heard of people blowing out seals in the box. Not saying it dose not work i have just read some bad forums on this deal. If i can remeber were i saw the post i will link it.You also may want to look into why they just don't send you a box and a ram with AGR. I had that question so i did some research. I was also told to tap and just buy a ram now i am not. I'm not saying it will not work but even Rock Ram is not rated passed 38" tall tires. Just a few thoughts i had when i was thinking of before i jumped it to it. Remeber it's your money not there's.

Iam running the 1.75X8" psc ram as hydro assist. I use the stock pump with a B and M tranny cooler and so far no problems. Iam thinking about boosting the pressure a little to make it steer faster when traveling fast at low RPM's. I ran the benchworks ported box capped for like six months before I bought the ram. The PSC kit comes with a ram, hoses, and weld on tabs for a pretty good price. With the box already ported it was one of the easiest mods I've done to date. It took me about an hour and a half to do the install.
