Is there any reason why I would want to keep the insulation under the hood of my LJ? After having it for two Phoenix summers, it just seems to lock in the heat.

Take it out, I have always removed mine in all my vehicles. Never had a problem with them being removed, although in place the old insulation pad in my Ford got wet and fell onto the engine. Also my TJ did not come with any sort of insulation in the engine bay. I know the LJ's are 100% the same under the hood so I doubt you would have any trouble without it. The only thing I ever worried about was over heating the paint on the hood but that didnt happen with my other vehicles.

I donno about TJ insulation, insulation on my J10 (ok so it was only 30yrs old:eek: ) caught fire like was soaked in gas (ok 30yrs of fuel vapor)
IMHO: dump it!

I removed the hood insullation from my 05 LJ at the beginning of last summer. No problems so far....

I don't think its insulation. I'm pretty sure it is a fire blanket. From what I understand, the clips that hold it up will break at a certain temp and drop the blanket. Under hood fire creates heat, heat breaks the clips, blanket falls and snuffs out fire.

They added these to the 04-05 Lj's to reduce engine noise, I have the new aev hood and I can't tell if its louder?

I guess I am wrong then about the TJ and LJ being exactly the same under the hood. I guess you learn something new every day.

Mine just kinda half fell off...on the dodge, so I took it off. Don't have any in the Nissan but it really doesn't overheat, especially when it can't leave the driveway:D
