Hey all:
My daughter just picked up an 06 TJ X running street tires on steelies. Was wondering if swapping her springs with the stock ones off my 05 Rubi LJ would give any additional lift so she could also run my stock tires and wheels?
Even if they fit and lift a bit... are there any downsides to taking this approach until more mod money is available? Drive shaft issues?
Thanks for the input.

It would lift it about .5" to 1.0" of lift thats about it.

I think Rubi springs are a bit taller but not much. Swapping the springs wont have any affect on the driveshaft angle.
You could also put some coil spring spacers in or a body lift.

I'm with desertdawg! Drop a BB in with them rubi springs! Slap 31's under it!! That'll give you 2.5 inches!

TJ springs are all the same.
The stock ones from my 1999 had the same part number tag as a set off a 2004 Rubicon that I acquired.
I ran 31" tires on my stock set up and wheeled it mildly for 2 years.

they are not all the same. the size is but the spring rate isn't. 4 cyl. have a lower rate than 6 cyl. They all have a little tag on with a specific rate #. Here is a pick of one.

I'm running 2" BB in front with rubicon spring and in the rear just a rubicon spring. Sits perfectly level and clears 33x10.50 BFG MT's no problem. No rubbing, etc.

Rubi springs are not taller, just a little stiffer. Some non-rubis came with those springs too. If you have some sagged out springs or a 4 cyl you will notice a little lift fromthe stiffness. On an '06 it probly wont to much, sniceyou have them lying around, might as well go for it and take some pics.

Rubi springs aren't taller, just a little stiffer, so when installed, the Jeep does sit a teensy bit higher. Not sure if this changed at some point, but the Rubi springs we have in the shop have tags that say "512" (I think--just going from memory) and the regular TJ springs say "404". We replaced the springs on a 97 TJ first with 404's, then with 512's, and the difference was about 3/4". But while you are doing that, it makes sense to put in your 2" BB's. You won't have to worry about changing out anything else right away, including shocks.

Nena, has spoken and you would do well to follow this sage advice;)

Thanks all, for the great responses! I'll take the advice and swap the springs and add the 2" BB. Heck, it's a cheap way to get it moving forward. :D
Just another note here. Due to the slightly larger MTR tires on the Rubicon, DC welded a steel round disc (about 3/8" thick) on the center of the front axel coil bucket. This makes contact with the bumpstop so the tires don't rub. Cheap way of getting larger tires under the TJ. Thought some of you might like to know how they got the larger tires under there.

Got a picture of that? You talking about to essentially add 3/8 bumpstop at the bottom of the spring cycle? Cannot say I noticed that when I put my pucks in last week....

I also heard a rumor that rigs with a hard top have the stiffer springs as well... but never cared enough to try to validate this.

That is exactly the set up I run. Works for me!
