So, is broken arrow still open? I searched the archive and saw there was some talk that it could be closed. Maybe i missed it, but i didnt see a definite answer whether or not it is currently closed. Im looking to head up there sometime this summer. If its not open, are there any other trails you all would suggest? Ive heard of greasy spoon, but dont know anything about it. Thanks everyone!

Its open... I was there two weeks ago. Not sure if its nature or man-made changes, but there is alot of dirt packed up against (like a ramp) some of the rocks you go over. Took the fun out of it.

Probably the Pink Jeep Tours idiots. You should have stopped and quickly dug it out. Leave the trail a LITTLE challenge for the tourists.

That really sucks. My friend just got a JK and wants to get into wheeling, so I planned on taking him up there in a few weeks after he runs some easier stuff down here.

Yup its still open, I was up there a week ago to learn how to wheel again. This AZ stuff is much different than the North East.

Awesome! thanks for the info everyone! I'd love to go over cinco de mayo, but my finals arent over until the 10th, and thats a long commute from Tucson! Ill probably head up there the last week of may, ill post up if anyone is interested. By the way, would this trail be do-able in a stock Xterra? Keep in mind its an 07, so body damage isnt an option.

I don't think body damage will be an issue, however, you may be on the tail end a little bit. I went through it one time with my LJ sitting at the time at almost 5 inches of lift and I caught the tail a time or two. I would say if you are really, really concerned, don't try. There is a lot of traffic during the day and it is only one way, so there is no driving out the way you went in. A couple of guys in stock height Mitsubishi Monteros followed me through it and I did notice them hitting in a couple of places. I really think they only had trouble on the stairs leaving dragging the back end. I would say go earlier than the end of May for some nicer weather.

You should be able to get the Xterra through with out any body damage, but maybe not the tail. I sure someone else could probally give you a more confident answer.

You can get a stock Xterra through easily without body damage or even paint scratches--just take it slow and pay attention. It will be almost impossible for an inexperienced driver to get it through without scraping the undercarriage a bit. But if you just crawl through, you won't do any damage.

What model Xterra? The Offroad model comes with taller tires and skid plates. On a side note: Interesting that Nissan is a sponsor of Tread Lightly, who despises the term "off road"--we are supposed to promote the term "off-highway" to encourage people to stay on trails. ;)

There are a couple spots that you will scrape on the underside, probably right in the middle of the vehicle. Skids are important.

I came down hard on my gas tank skid when I was there last. The stock skid now has a big dent in it. (New Toys by Troy skid is going on this weekend)

The stairs will provide you with a clearance challenge. As others have stated, you may smack your rear end (bumper, gas tank skid) on the way down. The trail is very doable in a stock Jeep. I don't know much/anything about xterrras.

On a side note, I got a chuckle last time I was out there. The Pink Jeep in front of me pulled aside to allow his customers to watch me descend the steep boulder obstacle just past mushroom rock. As we went down, I hear the Pink Jeep driver tell his customers, "See what people do with Rental Jeeps! Unbelievable." I've never been on that trail and not heard at least one flippant remark from a Pink Jeep driver. Those guys are pricks.

Ok its sounds like we probably won't bring the Xterra through there, we'll wait a year or two before we start trashing it :) Sadly, its not the offroad model, its a 4x4 but doesnt have the rear locker or any of those goodies. I just wanted to bring more people than could fit in the cj. Thanks again everyone, i appreciate the info.

That is too bad. For a while, they seemed to be making real progress in the public relations department.

It seems like they are feeling threatened by rentals--I have heard many negative comments myself. They don't like the fact that the general public is allowed to do any trails they want. In my experience, there is not much competition between tours and rentals--folks either want to drive themselves or they don't--there are very few who may be swayed one way or the other.

There are still Pink guides who are really nice people--it is usually the newbie tour guides who think their "whatever" doesn't stink and make the juvenile comments. And since their turnover rate is very high, you are likely to encounter one of them.

I took a Pink Jeep ride on Broken Arrow & up Schnebly Hill Rd when I was in Arizona last month... the tour guide I had was great. We ran across a TJ with a broken rear axleshaft on Broken Arrow and he stopped to make sure the guy was ok because it was nearing sunset at the time. For what it's worth, I had a great time.

When I was up there this time last year, we ran into on lady driving a pink Jeep that was very nice. She gave us some directions and wished us well. However, we passed five or six pink Jeeps driven by men, who all had nasty things to say as we drove by. We also encountered two other men driver (perhaps the same as above) who stopped right next to us while we where disconnecting and made negative comments loud enough to make sure we heard it. Doing that won't make me keep off the trail, and I tell everyone who I know who goes to Sedona to never take a pink Jeep tour. I let them know that if they really want to go, they can rent a Jeep and I will go up there with them and show them the trail.

One guy who drove a Pink Jeep smile at me and said "That's a fine lookin Jeep" didnt seem very hostile, but I have run into the other kind too.
