For the trail on the 23 are land permits needed? I went out that direction today and saw No trespassing signs everywhere. So I just skipped it all and did the alpine power line trail again...!

Subject: Run on the 23d
Okay; first of all for all you doubters...told you I'd be to busy on the
31st to go out, as the Broncos are going to Miami.
Anyway, can someone repost the directions for the 23d? I don't have them
and wanted to update the webpage (something I haven't done a lot of
recently).
Thanks,
Jim

Take US60 east of Phoenix to Florence Jct, there's a Texeco station
just past the junction, can't miss it, meeting time is 8:30, if nothing has
changed. Drove out that way this morning, took about an hour from Glendale.
I think the trail is somewhere southeast of there.
See ya there!

Subject: Log Corral Trail - Feb Run?
Well, I found it. Trail runs from SR 87 to Bartlett Lake (not far from
Mud Springs). It's generally a class 3 (at least the parts I was on),
but it does have a class 3+/4 spot near the beginning...a very rocky
portion of Log Corral Canyon - but it's do-able, BUT not with a stock
Jeep. For those who did Martinez Canyon, it's a bit like that. I believe
this trail has been adopted by the Mesa 4 Wheelers...they left their
initials carved prominantly in an old tree that had fallen and had been
cut to clear the trail.
There was water in the creek, and cottonwoods were all around. As the
canyon widens, you return to Senoran Desert terrain. I went about half
way to the lake, and turned around. Linda's done the whole trip as I
understand, and if the Verde is low enough, we could cross and head to
Cave Creek/Carefree; or head back the way we came; or head to the north
east following the powerline trail to north of Sunflower (SR87).
Looks like a good trip, but I wouldn't suggest it for a stock vehicle.
Anyone interested???

Hi all,
This is a reminder of the run for the 23rd. Directions and time are below. I'd
like to get a good headcount, so if you are planning to come and your name is
not already on my list, please shoot me a note. If you cannot come, and your
name is already on my list, let me know too; some of these were tentative at
the time.

Repost of original message with time and directions:
Battle Axe Rd starts a few miles south of Superior on SR177. It takes off to
the west and meanders around Copper Butte and along the edge of the White
Canyon Wilderness Area. After that it kind of follows the Gila River and
eventually stops at the coke ovens. There are a couple of short steep rocky
hills on this section of the trail and some areas that dip down to the level
of the Gila River. If there is a lot of rain, these areas might be a bit
muddy. The trail going north from the coke ovens towards Martinez Canyon has
some longer steeper hills but the trail is predominantly solid rock with some
ledges that can be a lot of fun. There is a 2-2.5 ft ledge that must be
tackled at the end of the trail, but we will be going down it so it will be
relatively easy. If there's time, we can stop by Martinez Canyon. Martinez
Canyon is about a 5 minute drive from the end of the coke ovens trail on a 2wd
road. After that, we can decide whether to leave via Box Canyon or head north
toward US60 or SR79.
This is an all day trip. Bring lunch, snacks, and more water than you think
you need (even though it's winter)! Most of the first leg of the trip is easy
and can be done in 2wd, but there are spots where engaging the transfer case
is needed. The second leg will require 4wd. A stock vehicle can do this trail.
I must also note that the trail is very brushy in spots and we will be going
under some very low hanging branches that will knock the cheaper magnetic CB
antennas loose. I know this from experience!

Hello Linda
There are several other Jeepers that I work with that have expressed interest
in going. One is confirmed, a second is iffey, maybe even a possible third. Is this
OK? Due we need to limit the size of our group? All the above mentioned are
good people. I can't vouch for there wheelin, but they might be good for a couple
of laughs.

I've received a suggestion for Feb 7th. How does that sound? Works for
me. Any other dates?
As to trail length...that depends. It's supposed to be about 3 hours to
the lake, and if we can cross, we should be back in town by mid or late
afternoon. However, I believe the Verde is running pretty strong, so
we'll likely have to back track, or take out the Power Line trail....so
it'd probably be a long day.
Linda...have you heard anything more about the Power Line trail being
open (was washed out)? Do you know it's trail rating?
I'll post directions and suggested start time once we have the date
lined up.

Hello VJCers,
I've been following the list here on eGroups for a couple of months now, and
was hoping to make it out for my first run on the 23rd. I noticed you have
quite a list of attendees going. Is there a limit on the number of
vehicles, or can I still sneak in?
Thanks,

No problem joining up. I don't think we've had any issues yet with the
group being too large. Since you've been lurking for a few months, you
probably know what kind of runs we do. Just make sure your Jeep is ready
to go maintenance-wise. A good spare tire and CB are recommendations
also. They're not required, but may come in handy.
Look forward to seeing y'all Saturday...

Hello Linda and all others who are going out on the 23rd.
I am planning on attending in my YJ and my wife wants to run the trail in her Grand. We have both run this trail before so she knows her Grand will make it OK.
I know of one other person at work with a TJ who says he wants to come.
That makes 2 confirmed and 1 probably for the 23rd.

Thought you might enjoy checking this one out. It is an internet survey
being taken on road rage by Leon James, a professor of traffic
psychology at U of Hawii-Manoa. According to James, drivers of SUVs
tend to be more aggressive -- quicker to tailgate, speed or change lanes
without signalling. I don't know about you, but my ZJ would be too
easily recongnized for me to get away with doing things like that so I
do the speed limit, use my signals, and try not to do anything really

Take US60 east of Phoenix to Florence Jct, there's a Texeco station
just past the junction, can't miss it, meeting time is 8:30, if nothing has
changed. Drove out that way this morning, took about an hour from Glendale.
I think the trail is somewhere southeast of there.
See ya there!
