I would like to get out this Saturday and do a run. Is anyone going out this Saturday the 14th that I could tag along?
After running the Sunflower night run last weekend I'm itching to get out.

Gotta be a 3.5 or less trail..

I might be going to FJ, but I'll have my 3yr old with me so I'll be taking it really easy.

The only run that I know is BC and Martinez Cabin/mine run. Yet if anyone has something else they want to run, I'm game.

I was planning on an easy weekend run this coming sat. As the weekend nears post up your plans. I didn't have anyone to do a shake down run with last weekend so I just did a little more work on my heep. If you head out to FJ or Sycamore I would prob tag along.

Anyone want to run Mud Springs Saturday? I would rate it between a 3 and 3.5... I'll lead. Trail head is located across the highway from Log Corral about 20 miles north of the Shea/87 intersection... We can meet at the Conoco gas station across from the Fort Mcd casino at 9am. Any takers?

I'm up for a run on Saturday. This will be my shakedown run after redoing my axle brackets. Also shakedown for the new tires...which reminds me I have to cut off the fenders by then.... crap, and weld on my LCA bracket skids, and replace my rear shocks, and, and...it never ends. Whatever you guys are up for works for me.

You guys talking Upper Wood and Upper Ajax?

I wouldn't mind getting out this weekend, and would like to bring the wife and kid (3.5yrs) along, too.

As for difficulty, you can get an open diff'd Wrangler on 31's through UWP with no problem...some lift will help. Upper Ajax I'd recommend 33's and one locker minimum. I haven't run it in a while, but there was a decent amount of water at the base of a couple obstacles in some recent trip photos.

Whoever's leading should give the "official" minimum reqt's list though.

Sure it's possible. I've probably ran it a dozen times and this is the only time it's happened. Several other people have been nailed here as well though, just have to be real careful.

I have a tendency to smack the right side around a bit, in that pic, the Jeep has marks from H2H, Payette, and Upper Ajax, so it wasn't all from there.

CYA out there, JD !

Going to run LW, UW and UA. A smaller rig could make most of the trails, but will hang up a lot on UA. The other 2 wouldn't be too bad. We can decided later on if we have to break up in groups. Some of the more built rigs will run LowerWoodpecker. So if anyone doesn't want to run it or stay to watch the action can go ahead and run UpperWoodpecker.
Upperwoodpecker can be done on 32's and open diffs. Lower Woodpecker and UpperAjax your gonna need 33's and one locker.

I may be bringing my dad along in his older CJ-5 with a minor lift and 31". Not 100% sure on that yet; will know more tomorrow.

If we are breaking up into two groups, one with "lesser" built rigs and one with "built" rigs, it would be easier for us to run the "lesser" trail, as his CJ may have issues getting over some rocks; and me personally, I'm not too excited yet about having body damage. I just started to built this beast!

I may also be bringing my two boys ( 6 and 7 ) and my nephew too, and I don't want to shake their noodles around too much :p

We'll see everyone at Cottonwood around 8am.

WOW, big group for Sat. RockSolid, no prob with the kids, I am bringing my 4 year old, and she has driven Anaconda and these other trails with me. I think we might want to split up into 2 groups if there are 14+ rigs, maybe the lesser builts can start with Upper Woodpecker while the more built rigs start with LW. And we can split on Ajax too, lessers run lower and built run upper.

tallgaier
04-13-2007, 07:47 AM

To me that's the worst spot on Ajax. I've seen some rigs climb the rock that's on the passenger side. I don't know if going far left would be better or worse. Twistedmetal went through that spot in his XJ on 33's with only a rear locker.

Regretfully, I'm out for tomoorow. My check engine light came on today, I reset the ecu and no luck. I then took the jeep to a family mechanic who had an OBD2 scanner and was unable to scan the code due to a problem with the ECU. I've checked the code via the odometer and it just reads nonsense garbled characters. The jeep is running OK, but I'm not going to risk driving all the way to FJ and having something go wrong and ruin the groups day.

I'm super pissed about this as I spent most of the day getting ready to run with old friends and new. Take lots of pics for me.

So I'm game for taking a group through Upper Woody. I think I have a couple of guys I work with that are somewhat inexperienced that are coming as well. You guys in the built rigs can run Lower Woody and then we can meet at the start of Upper Ajax ??

If someone else wants to lead that's fine, but like I said, I can get people through UW.

Make sure everyone brings food and drinks and some spares/recovery gear. I would think with a group this big, we could build a jeep with all the spares, but still..........

I would also like to exit via Price Rd and check out Country Thunder, so if anyone else wants to go that way, let me know and if we can, we'll run Elvis backwards down to Price.

I've only been to Martenize cabin and the ovens, so I don't know about these other runs. I might have been on them and don't know the names. Please don't laugh at my little CJ5, I learned to drive in one when I was 8 years old, 40 years ago and have been driving a CJ5 most of my life. I even have historic plates, lol
I know you guys have some serious rock crawling stuff, but I'm out for the scenery and a good time. So, if we have to split into 2 groups I'll go with the lesser
Can't wait to have fun

Well looks like i'll see everyone at 0800 at the airdown spot. Since our run to syc got shot down. And I wanna wheel this weekend! :D
Got everything packed up and ready to go, hopefully got most of what I need...
Never ran any trails out there before, only been out there to bring glen some parts, but thats it, so should be interesting to run some new trails.

I'm at Power/Baseline and will be leaving about 7AM. Probably roll down to Ellsworth alng Baseline, then hit the McD's and spalsh some gas in the jeep.

See you guys at the lot about 8:00. It was FULL there 2 weeks ago, so park the tow rigs somwhat organized. I'll be in a gray Yukon trailering a black YJ.

As for trails, I'd like to head right to Upper, so hope to jump in with Rich (if we really do have 2 groups). LWP doesn't do much for me.

Let's rock!

Had a blast today, glad I "instigated" some people to try new lines for them. Got Glen to run the Firehole(open/open XJ), and Charlie and I ran an optional line on Upper Ajax, thanks to the Crusher Corners! I think there were 20 rigs that showed today, I hope all had a good time.

I had a damn awesome time today!
Ajax is by far the coolest trail I have run so far!! To bad I couldn't make that last fall, and had to be winched off, I really wish I would have made it on my own power. Ohh well maybe next time when i have a rear locker and some larger tires. :)
I got a few pics as well, so I will get them uploaded and posted here soon.

After driving home I think I got some tranny issues, it is griding or something, but it could just be my broken tranny mount. Also, looks like I blew a rear shock, but ohh well, all for a pretty cool reason.
That "bypass" line on the beginning of ajax was pretty narly :D

Had a great time as well! Somebody mentioned it already, but yeah, there really was probably 20 rigs that showed up. Split into 2 groups at the start of LWP...about 1/2 opting to skip that for various reasons and to head straight to UWP. I ran with the so-called "easy group" which was cool and very kicked back. Still got to run all the lines, though...with no waiting (hah hah! See, there was a method to my madness!!!)

I met nowhere close to everyone, but had a great time saying hi to some familiar faces and chatting with some new people, too. The rancher who owns the place right at the gate before LWP even came down while I waited for the rest of the group, so got to talk to him for a while, too.

Was especially happy that my little 3.5yr old boy did so good. He had a bad spell where he was frightened of obstacles, but the only thing he didn't ride yesterday was the Firehole. Though all night long we heard, as he played with his toy Jeeps and Monster trucks, was "Daddy look! I running FIRE-HOLE!".

Only regrets was having to skip out on U-Ajax. That's a cool little trail, and looks like some of the rocks have moved, and lines have changed, since I was last on it (beleive it or not, a few yrs ago, that line to the right and around the big boulder was the "easy line"...not any more by the looks of things!).

Good times!!!!!!!!!
