The flag pole is off Cotton Lane, right? Cotton Lane is about 5 miles down 79 from 60. Anyone from this group run, ever do the Martinez Canyon or Box Canyon? They are in the same vicinity. I've been there a few times, nice, a lot of history from the mining days. Still some small buildings here and there. I've got some pictures I took of the Mine and stone house 12 years ago. I'll join up with the group at the Shell gas station you mentioned ...by Gold Canyon right? I'll be driving my white 98 XJ. high lift jack on front bumper, swing away spare tire rack on back.

all those coming from central mesa west dont want to take the 60 its going to be closed stapley to power. id suggest those coming from phx and scottsdale take northern 202 to power then south to the 60. chanler gilbert people take southern 202 to 60. also lets not forget that country thunder is this weekend so entry and exit on price will be flubed up. im good for some 3.5s i want to get back to elvis and would like to make it to martinez canyon(many plans to go there never made it yet)there is alway running the UW and LA if you dont want to fight the traffic.

Come to think of it Im not sure why, the canyon doesnt get bad until the very end by the mine (last saturday a jeep broke its control arm connector in the rear and was waiting for a welder, anyone on CB's that day would've heard all about it)
Anyway, whens this run happening, are you guys goin SAT and SUN or just SUN? I'm up for MC like I said and if I get stuck I could hop a ride with Glen. Elvis I heard is out of my league however...

Good info and reminder on the Thunder traffic, thanks XJStocker. Does everyone think if we start earlier we might miss some of that traffic? I've never dealt with the Country Thunder traffic. I would hope they are all parked at the concert. I'm coming from Phx. Indian School and 44th st. I know the flag pole spot and should be able to find Shell station with out a problem. If anyone my way wants to follow me let me know. I've run into the construction that has 60 shut down the past few months and the surface streets to get around it have been real quick. The rock garden before the cabin at Martinez has a on going record of breaking jeeps, Witnessed a few rescues, I don't know if I have the skill to try it yet. I'll take pictures of you guys rockin the garden if we go there.

To the cabin, it is a moderate trail. AFTER the cabin Mart Canyon is a different story. Elvis is easier than M Canyon, although I have personally seen a LOT of carnage on Elvis, which is weird cause it is not that hard. My avatar is on Elvis, but it is an optional line. Elvis is more difficult than Sunflower, but there are a lot of bypasses for the gnarlier stuff. Only 1 or 2 spots that have no bypasses, but I have seen a stock Rubi run the trail. Elvis is a GREAT trail to push your Jeep a little, challenging without being overwhelming for a newer driver. You should run it, it is a blast.

yes, you can sucessfully drive on price rd, past the country thunder event tents etc but you know there will be added traffic. there is always a bunch of cones and signs and cops right at the turn-off to price rd. price rd leads to other ranches/residences which are past country thunder so they won't close the road to just the event participants. as mentioned..............you will be out there early in the am sunday so you will beat the crowd for the sunday night concerts. then maybe consider leaving the area at the end of day through cottonwood.

I had a great time out there today. Other than customizing Steve's driveshaft and Miles' hardtop it was smooth sailing. I tried a couple of harder lines today and boy did my Jeep make me look good. :D It was cool to meet some new faces and watch Steve abuse his poor Toyota again.
Here are some pics:
Here I am on the first obstacle

I had a good time even without my Jeep. When I got back I had to have the wife's lancer tow my home and that was the worst part of my day.

I had to take the easy routes:
At the first obstacle

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l253/Miles2go1979/Elvis18.jpg
I tried to make the squeeze, but ended up going around the easy way
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l253/Miles2go1979/Elvis22.jpg
Again, my stocker couldn't even attempt it

As always I had a great time and learned alot. Thanks for all the help and advice. Can't wait to get out again soon.

I went up the 79 to Arizona Farms and took it across to Hunt Highway.
