New member, looking for a reputable shop or individual to rebuild the tranny in my 1978 CJ-7 with 304 and turbo 400 quadratrac. I've already been screwed on a "recently rebuilt" used unit so I do have a tranny and t-case out of the truck to be rebuilt, but I would prefer to pick up the jeep in a running driving state to avoid any more wasted time and money. I am in the east valley. Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, it looked like a good place to ask for help

what's wrong / what problems are you having ( mind you I only have about 25 yrs+ experience working on them, 1`currently in my 77 J10, one on the shelf and lots of spare parts )?

after installing the "recently rebuilt" tranny it will only engage reverse and reverse is extremely underpowered. I've been so upset I parked it 3 weeks ago and focused on the other project but need to fix this one for more funds to dedicate to the 86 Laredo.

Remove your head from your..... Dana 300. I am Fixing this problem to sell it. My other jeep has an auto and a Dana 20, as I was not happy with the Qtrac's quirks.

I have found someone to resolve this problem. Steve Olney was able to trouble shoot and Refill. (yes refill, not replace, or rebuild, or relegate to the nearest metal recycler) In just under 4 months and 30 minutes, 4 months of being on the other side of the valley or seperated by the unknown mileage between Mesa and Alaska trying to get the jeep in front of him, and less than 30 minutes in the noon day sun fixing the problem.
Steve was able to point out were I had messed up. After picking the CJ up from the tranny shop I checked the tranny fluid before attempting to move it and never checked it after attempting, he found it was nearly 2 gallons low as most of the fluid had probably been sucked into the tourque converter.
Also not understanding the Qtrac, Steve was able to fix some of the linkage that was not allowing the t-case to engage into either low or high.
While I was there he also found a engine compartment wiring harness for my other jeep and his prices for parts and services was great.
Thank You Steve, your Jeep knowledge is awe inspiring and I don't believe there is any pre TJ part's you don't have.

Great thread, and I like your response to Roughians in-appropriate comment. I'm going to give Steve some rep. points for taking care of a new member, and I suggest that you do the same. :) This is a perfect example of how this forum should work! (and often does)
