Does anyone know where I can find more petroglyphs? I am not looking for a drive to a tourist area, but a Jeep trail where I can find some similar to what is located on the Woodpecker Mine trail (http://arizonatrailways.com/cs/blogs/woodpecker_mine_-_superior_arizona/default.aspx).

The best place I know of for just going and checking out litterally thousands of Petroglyphs is at Deer Valley Rock Art Center at the west end of Deer Valley Road. http://www.asu.edu/clas/shesc/dvrac/
That whole mountain side is just crammed with them. They also have locations and directions to many more sites for you to visit like the hill off of 19th Ave and Greenway if you can still access it.

On 3rd mesa on Hopi is the seconed largest site in the country. Called Dawaki (sp?), it means sun house. Unbeleavable number of glyphs. There is also a great site at the headwaters of the Verde river. Can't get your jeep in there, but it's not a long hike. Maybe two miles, or so.

Up on Black Mesa there are a bunch. Also on the Powerline Trail(A.K.A. Hackberry Creek trail). Ask Desertdawg about them.

there are some at hackberry, but it's only one rock, and if that's the point of going its a long bumpy ride ;)

That's funny, I used to work at the Deer Valley Rock Art Center. It is a pretty cool site, although it is pavement straight up to its doors. I'd recommend seeing the petroglyphs at the DVRAC and then head up north on I17 to Table Mesa road to do some wheeling up there.

The most interesting site ,that I have been to, is Prophecy Rock on the Hopi reservation.

I know this goes without saying... but in these areas especially; TREAD LIGHTLY...

these spots are extremely sensitive areas to a broad base of groups and Jeeps in these area's tend to be a thorn in the side to many groups. Stay on the trail, don't experiment on obsticles that you're aren't absolutely sure you can make and don't take a leaky or machanically questionable rig to these areas... oil spots on these trails only stand to fan the flames...

Not directing this to any individual, just makes me nervouse when we starter talking about wheeling to these areas... just got to be careful!!!
