OK. After catching up on the goings on here while I have been gone, I
thought I'd pass along where I have been the last 4 days or so.
My wife and I make a yearly pilgrimage trip down through Tucson the back way
in our TJ and this year was a little different. We left on Thursday morning.
This year we ran the loop backwards going from here in Heber through
Show Low and down through the Salt River Canyon to Globe. Then from Globe
down the back way to Tucson through Mammoth and Oracle. We stayed with
some friends on Thursday night and enjoyed some Mexican food down on 6th
Ave. Friday morning we got up and headed down to Sonoita and then on
down to Sierra Vista and then took the Old Charleston Rd. over to
Tombstone. We played around in Tombstone, mostly the Crystal Palace and the Bird Cage.
Usually we get a motel in Tombstone, but this year they were all booked
up, so we got a room at the Copper Queen in Bisbee. I however don't
recomend the CQ as the rooms are small, and there is no parking close by.
I had to park the jeep on the street all night. There is a good
Mexican food restaurant on the corner just south of the CQ. It's called
Santiago's and the food is excellent and reasonable priced.
Next morning after some picture taking around town we headed on down to
Douglas and visited the Gadeston hotel and then headed up toward Wilcox
and farther north across the mountains by Bonita and Ft Grant into the
Safford area where we stayed and visited with some more friends who
live in Pima. BBQ chicken and Margareta's while watch the sun set.:)
This morning after breakfast we headed home back through Globe, but
across 88 through Roosevelt Dam and up the Beeline to Payson, where
we visited with TC Campbell a bit before heading on home.
I actually averaged about 15 mpg with the TJ on 4:88's and 35" MTR's
and usually drove between 60 and 65 mph when the back roads allowed.
After constantly checking the oil level, by the time I got home the
level had barely dropped a perceived bit on the old 4.0L motor.
BTW somewhere between Douglas and Wilcox she turned 200,000 miles
:D
